York Central is a parliamentary constituency which is represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.
After the 2005 general election the parliamentary representation in North Yorkshire was reviewed by the Boundary Commission for England, which recommended the division of the former City of York constituency. This took effect at the 2010 general election, and there are now two constituencies entirely within the borders of the city of York: York Central and York Outer.
York Central is one of only two UK Parliament constituencies to be isolated within a single other constituency. York Central is surrounded by York Outer. The other 'islanded' constituency is Bath, which is surrounded by North East Somerset.
York Central is currently represented by Hugh Bayley from the Labour Party and is the only constituency in North Yorkshire not represented by the Conservatives.
