Student life

The spirit of being in NITT is the freedom one gets, to explore life, without compulsions, without any crushing force from academic pressures; generally people pursue one or more skills, join clubs and groups to work for their own self on something disconnected from academics.

The best part about NIT Trichy (specially engineering courses) is that the intake of students is from all over India. Each state has a fixed number of seats for each branch. The end result is that for any branch, there are students of different states/culture/language. As most of the students stay in hostel, it gives them a chance to really know about each other. Everyone learns to respect the different lifestyle of each individual.

Extracurricular activities include participation in NCC, NSS, literary clubs, trekking clubs, photographic clubs and students' chapters of IEEE, SPICMACAY, Entrepreneurship Cell, CRY. A modern gymnasium and other sports facilities are also available in the campus.

Festivals

Prominent events at NITT include Festember, a 3 day cultural extravaganza for colleges in the region. Technical symposiums are conducted by the departments, during the months of January to March, every year.
