Student Amenities

There is a branch of the State Bank of India (with an ATM facility) which is housed along with a post office in one complex. The campus also has a gym (with an A.C. gym under construction at the time of revising this article, i.e. June '08), an indoor badminton court and table tennis tables - all in the Students Activity Center (S.A.C.).

It also has a well equipped library with state-of-art facilities including CCTV's and more importnatly a kiosk machine wherein one can check-in or check-out books at one go. The Library was established in 1968 and has built a large collection of books, journals and non-book materials. It also has a rich collection of resources in electronic media available locally on the Institute Intranet and accessible on the Web. It caters to the needs of large groups of users including more than 2000 students, 200 faculty, 150 research scholars and equally large number of supporting staff. It has computerized all its house-keeping activities using a global software that is being maintained and updated regularly. It also facilitates industries, individual consultants and corporates to access online database and journals. Not only having a very good reference section, Library has been subscribed to access INDEST by MHRD. The library serves as a venue for "Suche", the informal Quizzing club of the college. Normally the event takes place late in the evening and is attended by a dozen or more quizzers.

The college also houses a Central Computer Centre with the high configuration desktops and high speed internet connectivity. This computer centre comprises mainly two subcentres : Internet and Programming lab 1 (on the ground-floor) and a Programming lab 2 (on the first floor). There's yet another Internet Lab coming up after the recent renovation works. Students with individual login id's are able to use the machines for e-mail, internet browsing & general purpose programming. These labs include a wide variety of different purpose servers like Web-server, Mail-server, DNS, ordinary servers etc. It also houses most of the dialects of the operating systems, authorized copies of almost all the common shrink-wrapped software and various Engineering applications software. The centre has purchased a unified threat and bandwidth management tool called Cyberoam 500i and Cyberoam 1500i.

There is an integrated playground which has a 400 metre athletic track, a cricket ground and two basketball courts (with flood lights). Construction of a swimming pool is expected to commence shortly.

The canteen offers a wide variety of vegetarian delicacies and is a hub for student interaction and activity. It has a fix-up stage at its rear where performances are held at the time of cultural or other events. The canteen finds a lot of outsiders too citing the cheap rates. In April 2008, the college canteen was fitted with three Wireless Routers and the students could avail the free Wi-Fi facility there. This work is currently been extended to a number of hostels and the Wireless internet is promised to the hostel inmates from the next academic year. [3]

The other place where a lot of student activity occurs is, ironically, in the Staff Club. Here, indoor functions (like quizzes, meetings, auditions for cultural events etc.) of a smaller scale are held. There is a music room inside which contains a wide variety of musical instruments which students can practise playing. The Staff Club also houses the Estate Offices.
