Lady Gaga is an American singer-songwriter who has received awards and nominations for her contributions to the music industry. Born and raised in New York City, Gaga came to prominence as recording artist following the release of her debut album The Fame in 2008. Nominated for a total of five Grammy Awards, the album retrieved two of those nominations including Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording for the single "Poker Face" in 2010.[1] Both singles "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" proved to be the biggest critical hits of the album but the music video for "Paparazzi" introduced her to success at the MTV Video Music Awards, winning two of its five nominations in 2009.
Her follow-up album, The Fame Monster (2009) included the hit singles "Bad Romance" and "Telephone" whose music videos induced the receipt of 8 MTV Video Music Awards out of 13 nominations in 2010. In 2011, The Fame Monster received six Grammy nominations and won three, including, Best Pop Vocal Album. Gaga's single "Bad Romance" won the other two awards: Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Short Form Music Video. Born This Way (2011), her most recent album, accrued three nominations at the 54th Grammy Awards including her third-consecutive nomination for Album of the Year and second-consecutive nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. Gaga's single "You and I" earned her a nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance. Lady Gaga has the second most MTV Video Music Awards of any artist with a total of 13, including: Video of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Female Video for two consecutive years. Alongside these musical successes, Gaga herself has earned several awards and nominations for her artistic and philanthropic efforts to society.
