The 2012 Indian Premier League season, abbreviated as IPL 5 or the IPL 2012, will be the fifth season of the Indian Premier League, established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held in M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, the home venue of the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings.[2] The tournament will begin on 4 April and end 27 May 2012.[3] This season the number of teams in the league went from ten to nine with the termination of Kochi Tuskers Kerala. On 16 February 2012 BCCI announced Pune Warriors India to Play in IPL 5.[4]
Termination of Kochi
The IPL Committee has terminated the IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala. Despite KTK's efforts, the court haven't given them any relief and the IPL Governing Council decided that the tournament be reduced to 9 teams. However, KTK players will participate in IPL 2012. KTK players have been included in the list of players to be auctioned in the Players' Auction on 4 February 2012.
On 13 January 2012, BCCI has asked the international players of Kochi Tuskers Kerala to register individual court cases against the owners of Kochi IPL team with the BCCI included as party to each case.[5]
Schedule
IPL Committee has announced the Schedule of IPL 5[6]. The tournament will begin on 4 April 2012 at Chennai and the final match of IPL 2012 will be played at Chennai on Sunday 27 May 2012.[7]

English spin bowler Graeme Swann is the only player who has set his base price at $400,000 for the auction.
