Football Association of Selangor was formed on 22 February 1936 to oversee footballing activities throughout the state of Selangor. Although a formal association was only formed in 1936, Football Association of Selangor has actually had a football team since 1921,[1] which participated in the Malaya Cup (later HMS Malaya Cup, known today as the Malaysia Cup). They were also one of the founding members of the Malayan Football Association (the predecessor of the modern Football Association of Malaysia) which happened in 1926.

The Selangor FA is a professional football team that competes in Malaysian football competitions representing the state of Selangor Darul Ehsan and under the supervision of Football Association of Selangor. The team is based in Shah Alam city and currently playing in Malaysian Super League, the top-flight of Malaysian football. Their home games are played at Stadium Shah Alam.

With a record of 32 Malaysia Cups, 5 Division 1/Premier 1/Super League titles, 2 Division 2/Premier 2/Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups, 9 Charity Cups, 13 King's Gold Cup and 1 Agong's Cups Selangor is the most successful team in Malaysian football. The first treble consists of Malaysia, FA Cup and Charity Cup, while the second consists of Premier League, Malaysia Cup and FA Cup and third consists of Super League, FA Cup and Charity Cup. In 2010, they retained the Super League title and Charity Cup. 1997 Was the most successful year for Selangor Football Team when they won 4 cups and almost add it to 5 with Malaysia, FA Cup and Charity Cup together with the King's Gold Cup as the champions and runners-up for the Agong's Cup.

The Stadium

See article:Shah Alam Stadium

Construction began in 1 January 1990, and the stadium was officially opened on 16 July 1994, when Dundee United played a Selangor FA selection in the first game of an invitational tournament, drawing 1–1. The first goal at the stadium was scored by Billy McKinlay. Other teams in the tournament were Bayern Munich, Leeds United, the Australian Olympic team "Olyroos", and Flamengo (who won the tournament). The stadium is situated in the eastern part of Shah Alam. The Shah Alam Stadium, which consists of huge six level semi-enclosed spaces, is the largest stadium in Selangor State. It was the biggest stadium in Malaysia before the completion of the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. The frame structure is the longest free-standing arc in the world. Constructed with the latest technology, it is now a popular venue for world class sport events. The stadium was designed by a well known Malaysian Architect, Hijjaz Kasturi. The stadium has around 5,500 car bays in parking lots surrounding the stadium. The stadium has become the major landmark in Shah Alam due to its scale and magnificent architecture. Other than sporting facilities, the stadium also has a go-kart racing circuit. Once, Universiti Teknologi MARA's (UiTM) Faculty of Performing Arts occupied a portion of the stadium as its faculty building prior to the completion of the Puncak Perdana Satellite Campus of the University. Shah Alam Stadium is currently the home stadium for Selangor who play in Malaysia's top division – the Super League (the Premier League is new-speak for the Second Division / Championship). The field size for the stadium was according to FIFA rules which is 105 x 68.
