Week3 / Assignment 3/yf2196

Yifannn (talk) 06:41, 27 October 2021 (UTC) YiFan Feng[reply]

The last article was about "brunch" because it said that the English brunch was around eleven o'clock. I think there is no standard time for brunch. Because I should add a time period for brunch in this Wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Brunch&action=edit&section=3

This time I upgraded according to the type I selected last time, and the Wikipedia article I chose for editing is this article about "time" content. It's because the previous Knowledge Encyclopedia article was about the time period of brunch, and the current article is the concept of time. What time is the morning defined by people? When is it early in the morning? But there seems to be no answer or standard information on this topic, and I am just participating and guessing. I didn't know about the evaluation of Wikipedia articles before in my impression, nor did I participate in the discussion. This extra points project has allowed me to learn a lot of things I haven't discovered before, and I hope I can learn more later.

Yifannn Please finish all parts of this assignment for this week and then ping me here. Some of the things you did were also not required. I will then take a look at it and reply. --- FULBERT (talk) 00:03, 28 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I tink i finished all 4 part Yifannn (talk) 19:37, 31 October 2021 (UTC)Yifannn (talk) 05:54, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yifannn You have still not assigned yourself the articles in the dashboard. Please assign yourself all articles you edit in the Wiki Edu Dashboard and then ping me here. I will then take a look at it and reply. --- FULBERT (talk) 19:36, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yifannn Please do this after we speak later this week. --- FULBERT (talk) 12:40, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yifannn Good enough for now. Week 3 is current. --- FULBERT (talk) 20:38, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 4/ Assignment 4/ yf2196

I added folklore to the origin of the Double Ninth Festival. It is a mythological and very ancient Chinese legend.

2. This is the link to the citation difference I added. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Double_Ninth_Festival&diff=1052619740&oldid=1050268118

3. From this assignment, I found that adding citations or materials can enhance persuasiveness and let us understand a certain event or story more comprehensively. And it’s important to keep the information comprehensive, because people are interested in related articles and will see more references and read more.

Yifannn Please assign yourself this article in the Wiki Edu Dashboard and then ping me here. I will then take a look at it and reply. Please also remember to sign each of your posts using four tilde characters ~~~~ at the end. --- FULBERT (talk) 19:39, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yifannn Please do this after we speak later this week. --- FULBERT (talk) 12:41, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yifannn The content is good, though you do not have a credible and reliable source cited to provide evidence for what you added. Can you add a citation to support what you wrote and then ping me here when done and I will review? --- FULBERT (talk) 20:40, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 5/ Assignment 5/ Notkc01

This is Kyle. Hope everyone is doing good. Here is my week 5 assignment.

1. I have explored some electric vehicle topics on the Wikipedia website and I ended up with one article that described the history of the Chinese subway and the overall development of the electric vehicle situation in China. I did a precious change about the specific timeframe of the origin of the Chinese subway in Beijing and added one citation on it.

2. Link to the diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Electric_vehicle_industry_in_China&diff=1054010425&oldid=1051225050

3. The editing certainly helped me learn more about the history itself and I hope people searching from Wikipedia can all get the useful and correct information. Notkc01 (talk) 14:26, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notkc01, Please assign yourself this article in the Wiki Edu Dashboard and then ping me here. I will then take a look at it and reply. FULBERT (talk) 12:54, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
FULBERT Hi Professor, I have assigned myself to the article I edited. Please check it and let me know if there is any problem. Thank you! Notkc01 (talk) 13:46, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I add a citation to this article, which is a different article from week 3. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Changpeng_Zhao&action=history Here is the edit history. Sleep by 11 (talk) 03:25, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

FULBERT, Hi professor, actually, I put the diff link in the Week4/assignment/Amber MWY, but I can not edit it, so I just ping you here. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Environmental_impacts_of_lithium-ion_batteries&type=revision&diff=1052829465&oldid=1052659979--Amber MWY (talk) 10:36, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Amber MWY, This is fine, though starting this week we should also add a sentence or two in addition to adding the citation itself. Can you add a bit to it so we know how you intend the citation itself to be added and then ping me here when done? FULBERT (talk) 20:46, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
FULBERT, I added two citations for this article. The first one is that the author showed us"This type of battery is also referred to as lithium-ion batteries" but it did not show us what evidence is. And another is "Most commonly used for electric vehicles and electronics" and it also did not show us the idea to support it.--Amber MWY (talk) 02:58, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Amber MWY, OK for now. Current with Week 4. FULBERT (talk) 21:23, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

update from week 2

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Brunch&action=edit&section=3

I think that brunch should not have a fixed time limit. It almost depends on people's mood to decide the time for brunch. The restaurant can carry out its own brunch sales time without having to define this time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yifannn (talkcontribs) 05:10, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yifannn Please edit your post title to include spaces between the week, assignment, and your user name and the " / " and then reply to me here and I will review. Week 5/ Assignment 5/ Yifannn

1. I paid attention to the part about linguistics. The focus of the historical part should be on the beginning or event of history, not on the frame too much. . The history of linguistics is very old, I added some time about the earliest human language research language.

2. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Linguistics&diff=1053809836&oldid=1052939307

3. Through this exercise, I found that adding some knowledge points or literature is more important or more acceptable than structure or framework. Yifannn (talk) 05:50, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yifannn, Please include your Wikipedia user name in the section title as per the instructions. Please revise and ping me when done and I will review. FULBERT (talk) 13:04, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yifannn Please see how I renamed your post here using your Wikipedia User Name, which is requested in the assignment itself. Also, you added an interesting piece of information though it was reverted as you did not provide a citation to support your claim (similar to what I would mention in our class assignments themselves). Please add a citation to a credible, high-quality source and then ping me here again and I will review. --- FULBERT (talk) 20:51, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 5/Assignment 5/Huilin826

1. The article I added is "Eiffel Tower". The link is:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiffel_Tower 2. A link diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eiffel_Tower&type=revision&diff=1054143414&oldid=1049055030 3. I learned the Eiffel Tower is the most visited monument with an entrance fee in the world, it has become a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. I add one sentence to explain why was the Eiffel Tower build. Huilin826 (talk) 09:26, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

1. I live in Brooklyn and I found that there are many Niu Technologies brand shared scooter downstairs in my apartment. I registered and used it. I find it very convenient, especially when you don't want to walk! So I chose Niu Technologies as my article. And found some information on the official website to supplement .https://www.niu.com/us 2. diff; https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Niu_Technologies&diff=1054632943&oldid=1018824232 3. I found that this is a new entry, and there is not much information. This makes me feel very meaningful. The information I added will be easier for others to see. And when I checked the official website, I found that it was a Chinese brand. And I never hear that before. And I feel that my "weird knowledge" has increased again lol.Cloi929 (talk) 06:35, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cloi929, Nice addition, and one of the few times it works to cite the company's website itself. Current for Week 5. FULBERT (talk) 23:33, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 6/ Assignment 6/yf2196

1 Hotpot is one of China's original cuisines, and it is also a kind of food suitable for all ages. I added some descriptions about hot pot in Wikipedia.

2. This is the link to the citation difference I added. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hot_pot&diff=prev&oldid=1054702265

3. From this assignment, I found that adding some information can enrich the content of Wikipedia. It will also allow people who read later to get more resources and reference.Yifannn (talk) 17:07, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 6/ Assignment 6/ Nenenie

1. This article is Shen Congwen's novel. I have added some of Shen Congwen's views on the life of the peasants in the story. This story is about the beauty of human nature and the defeat of feudal customs. There is no intrigue between people in the story of Xiangxi, simple and innocent.

2. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=A_Girl_from_Hunan&type=revision&diff=1054759217&oldid=1013768200

3. If only the content is one-sided, it is difficult to find the author actually wants to express the meaning. This story describes a feudal place, but through the author, we can find the beauty of the human nature of this place. --Nenenie (talk) 23:20, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

1. The article I picked for this assignment is a science fiction novel by the Chinese writer Liu Cixin. The title refers to the three-body problem in orbital mechanics, and the name of the article is called " The Three-Body Problem".

2. The diff link: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Three-Body_Problem_%28novel%29&type=revision&diff=1057658813&oldid=1057608816

3. The citation I added to the novel is going to make the background of the article more detailed. Then I learned that the background of the article needs a lot of references to support it. Gdaymate011 (talk) 18:58, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gdaymate011, I undid this edit due to WP:PLAGIARISM concerns as the text is too close to the source cited. Please redo this in your own words and ping me again here and I will review. As a reminder, all edits must be in your own words, as copyright violations are serious problems that can potentially leave you blocked on Wikipedia. 3. From this assignment, I found that adding citations or materials can enhance persuasiveness and allow us to understand a certain thing or story more comprehensively---Jjjjdddd199704 (talk) 19:06, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 6 / Assignment 6 / Wikisun1952

1. The article I added was "Food Addict Anonymous". It explains how people deal with food addiction and how to overcome it.

2. The link diff:https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Food_Addicts_Anonymous&type=revision&diff=1055258544&oldid=1002477332

3. I learned how to cite a source correctly on Wikipedia. Wikisun1952 (talk) 20:53, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikisun1952, I strongly recommend you reply to the editor who undid a number of your edits due to copyright violations and review the training you completed on using sources. Just like in my course, never use sources word-for-word as that is considered plagiarism. Always restate in your own words and then cite your source. Revise the ones that were undone as part of this process and then ping me for each of them and I will again review them. FULBERT (talk) 02:47, 24 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week6/ Assignment 6/ Beccabubu

1. This week the article I chose is "Flexible work arrangement". The COVID-19 pandemic placed flexible work arrangements, especially for telecommuting, to bring profound advantages for both a company and its employees. According to Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), there is evidence that more women than men have been asked for flexible work arrangements in the past few years. I added this fact to the article.

Week7/ Assignment 7/ Beccabubu

1. I normally drink about 3 cups of coffee and get bubble tea at least once a week, it's way too hard to get rid of the sugar rush, so this week, I chose "Bubble tea" and "Coffee consumption in China" these two articles to continue to discover the fun of editing the Wikipedia. I added some data on each article to support the consumption growth of bubble tea and coffee in China in recent years.

2. Link to the difference

I've added a new paragraph to this term, adding the latest download data, as well as reviews from the news. Also put in citations from authoritative websites. I learned how to find citations based on the topic I wanted to edit. Also while editing, I saw the contribution of other people's edits and was inspired by their formatting, wording, and expressions. Week 6/ Assignment 6 / Sleep by 11

The content of this entry is outdated, so I have added the current new laws and regulations, the SEC's restrictions on foreign joint venture brokerage firms.

This entry is about the China Securities Regulatory Commission and China's financial markets, so I paid close attention to the impact of laws and regulations in the editing process. Each of my wordings should be in accordance with the laws and regulations, not to cause ambiguity to the reader, and also to conform to the original meaning that the laws and regulations intended to convey.

Week 7/ Assignment 7/ Nenenie

1. I Added some details about bird hybrids and some details about critics of the Dying Species Act. Because I'm interested in animals, the ESA act and the bird mix are both designed to reduce the pressure on species to go extinct in order to protect species diversity.

2. Gamebird hybrids: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gamebird_hybrids&type=revision&diff=1055999324&oldid=1041273425

Week 6/ Assignment 6/ Notkc01

This is Kyle. Hope everyone is doing great! 1. I have found one article about the introduction of NFT(Non-fungible token). NFT is a very meaningful production for the digital world after cryptocurrency. As more and more high-tech productions are introduced to our daily life, we certainly might have another identity "actually" living in the digital world. NFT plays an essential role as we purchase things in the digital world. As everything is digitalized, we need something to actually prove the authentication and the ownership of the products and NFT is the series of numbers assigned to each product we buy that can be retrieved by any buyer to show the ownership, previous price, and authentication. I added one journal article and revised the basic concept of NFT to make it more comprehendible and convincible.

2. Here is the diff link. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Non-fungible_token&diff=1056216323&oldid=1056165499

1. I am working on an article related to my research topic. Virtual workplace has also become one of the most popular topic nowadays. I added one more challenge to it.

3. As doing the research, I'm not only getting more understanding on the topic, but also get to know the processes of adding new materials to the article on Wikipedia. --Emilyyxx (talk) 00:51, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week6/ Assignment-Citation and Contribution/ Emilyyxx

1. Project is the general topic related to my research paper. I also took classes related to the topic and read several books about project management, so I think I might be able to contribute a little on the Wikipedia page.

2. The Link of Diff.

3. On the original Wikipedia page, I think there's a lack of a concise definition of project, so I decided to add one based on the PMBOK Guide, an official guide of project management published the Project Management Institute. --Emilyyxx (talk) 02:27, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week7/ Assignment7/ Emilyyxx

1. As I was looking at the digital marketing wiki page, I found that some of the references are outdated, so I decided to add to the strategies section cited with a new journal. I chose luosifen to be my second article because it is one of my favorite food.

2. Link to the diff: -Link to the diff. - Digital Marketing -Link to the diff. -Luosifen

3. I used to use Wikipedia as a major source to learn topics I am interested in, but I realized that I probably should always check the date of the references first to make sure I am not learning the outdated contents.--Emilyyxx (talk) 03:22, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week8/ Assignment8/ Emilyyxx

1. I chose a book and an author for this week's assignment. There are only limited info about the book or the author, so I edited a bit and included citations.

2. Link to the diff. - To Live

Link to the diff. - Rao xueman

3. The articles on Wilipedia often helps, but the contents might be incomplete, so it is important to do more research before take the contents on Wikipedia as truth. I also took a look at the editing history, it is nice to see how many people contributed in different parts to help each other understand the contents better.--Emilyyxx (talk) 04:36, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week9/ Adding an image/ Emilyyxx

1. Dragon Boat Festival is one of my most favorite festival, and zongzi is a typical food people will have on that day. I looked over the article and did not find a picture of the type of the way people wrap zongzi in my hometown, so I added an image that I took last year of a home-made zongzi.

2.Link to the diff

3. By learning this week's training, I realized that there are different types of licenses of the images and understood what type of images fit on Wikipedia.

4. In the whole process of editing on Wikipedia, I did a lot of research on the topics. I learned a lot about the topics and the rules of editing. I learned that Wikipedia is not the proper reference, but the rules here tend to help editors and readers can learn and contribute on all of these different topics. Without Wikipedia, it might be really hard for us to learn about something that we do not know about.

I probably will continue editing on Wikipedia for the areas I am interested in or on the topics which I've done a lot research on. One of the reasons is that I would like to help more people understand and learn about the things that I like. For example, I added a picture of zongzi from my hometown because I want people to know that there are more different types of zongzi. Also if I've done enough researches on a certain topic in the future, I would like to edit the related topic to allow people get the most recent information or research results on the topic just to help update.--Emilyyxx (talk) 05:26, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikisun1952, I reverted this for the same plagiarism concerns. Taking the words from another site word-for-word is a serious violation of academic and professional standards. Please redo this edit. FULBERT (talk) 03:26, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 8 / Assignment 8 / Wikisun1952

1. Recently, I was reading an article about inbreeding. I found that some details in the article were not in place, so I added some content. The second article I chose was thermohaline circulation.

3. Through this assignment, I learned that reference can help us to a great extent when we are looking for the information we need. Wikisun1952 (talk) 23:29, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your edit as it was too close to the cited source. Remember, the same policies we use in class about editing count for Wikipedia as well. Week 9 / Assignment 9/ Wikisun1952

1. Recently, I was reading an article on immigration policy. I found it a little outdated, so I updated some content. As Thanksgiving is coming, I read some articles about tourism and diving. The second article I chose was recurrent diving.

2. links to diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Immigrant_investor_programs&type=revision&diff=1056458941&oldid=1049091032 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Recreational_diving&type=revision&diff=1056460312&oldid=1044641312

3. Through this assignment, I learned how to add correct references to wikis and how to extract effective and timely information.

4. Through this study of extra credits, I learned that the biggest advantage of Wikipedia is that it has strict copyright management, and the appropriate editing threshold limits some users who edit at will. Editors are distributed in all corners of the world, engaged in all kinds of work, some people focus on one thing, some have a wide range of hobbies. In a word, they are ordinary people. We can find a lot of relevant and useful materials through Wikipedia. I learned how to add citations to an article and how to consult relevant materials. I will continue to edit Wikipedia because it has become a miracle of the Internet. There are too many such people working for the openness and freedom of information. Wikisun1952 (talk) 23:28, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikisun1952, Please revise this one due to the same concerns as above. FULBERT (talk) 03:28, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

3. Every editor has to make sure it’s permissible to use the image to start with. You absolutely cannot just grab whatever you find on the Internet and use it on Wikipedia.

4. The whole process of being an editor of Wikipedia is fun. It helps me learn about new things. Sometimes I want to write about something that I'm not familiar with, so I have to learn it. I have to open books, go to libraries, find references, dig up things that don't come up as the first Google result. It helps me enjoyably spend time. My favorite aspect is when I see other people building on my work and finding that our knowledge, skills, or access to reference materials are complementary.

What I have learned from this process is as an editor, you have to be responsible for everyone; you have to summarize information from independent, reliable sources.

I may continue editing on Wikipedia because I would like to share my knowledge with others. Wiki gives me the platform, and when I find an interesting piece of news on something, I feel an urge to share the material to give other people the opportunity to read it. --Beccabubu (talk) 06:42, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The reviews are not all good, in fact, there are a lot of critics I haven't noticed while watching the movie. I learned that this type of movie can be watched to relive the history but also need to be evaluated carefully like the rest of the movie. By editing the article, I learned to use blockquote and add references to a template.Katxzhang (talk) 08:26, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Link of difference: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Law_enforcement&type=revision&diff=1057080871&oldid=1051081341 3. What I have learned is that it is a game-changer situation already that more corners of the world are taking minority rights seriously and starting to make a difference. Individuals like us should contribute to the subject in our own way which will result in an even brighter and more efficient path to a better future.Katxzhang (talk) 10:02, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

3. I added more detailed information to these two articles so that we can better understand the content of the article. Hi Folks, this is my assignment 8.

2. The diff link:

3. I know that Chick-fil-A has many Christian employees, and it stopped donating to LGBTQ organizations. I love Chick-fil-A, however, in my mind, the world is inclusive. Meanwhile, I know the history of Jollibee -- EricaLiu1260 (talk) 20:16, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Describe what your experience was like (overall) with this Wikipedia extra credit assignment:This experience gave me a new understanding of Wikipedia. Before that, I just looked at the content of Wikipedia to understand what I wanted to know, but I never thought that I could edit it myself. I believe this is an exciting experience.

Discuss what you learned: I learned how to edit Wikipedia and insert pictures. In the process, I realized that even if it is a short edit, the content must come from an authoritative article. The wording on Wikipedia also needs to be rigorous and logical.

Why / why not do you intend to continue editing on Wikipedia:I might continue to edit on Wikipedia in the future because I think this is an exemplary process of learning and sharing. I can share knowledge that others don’t know and help others understand a topic better. At the same time, I have also deepened my understanding of this subject. I think this is a win-win operation.--Cecilia haha (talk) 07:29, 27 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi guys, hope everyone had a good thanksgiving. Here is my assignment 7.

1. I have followed metaverse for a while as this is a hot topic these days for the financial technology field. I read the topic of Metaverse on Wiki and expanded its utilization of Nike's recent action in its Utilization section. Besides technology giants, more and more big companies are stepping into the metaverse and trying to get ahead of others. The second article I found is the introduction to Anta sports. I added more information about its origin with the citation taken from its official website.

Week6/Assignment6/Jw6740

1. I found an S-level article named "E-commerce payment system" since it closely related to the topic of my research paper. Therefore, I found a high-quality journal article talks about digital payment systems and added it to this wiki article with one description sentence.

2. Link to the diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=E-commerce_payment_system&diff=prev&oldid=1057572478

3. What I learned from this process is that a high-quality article must have a lot of references to support its statements. Also, each statement should have an in-text citation to show evidence. Jw6740 (talk) 12:04, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week7/Assignment7/Jw6740

1. The two articles I found are "Food delivery" and "Home shopping" which are both related to the influences that e-commerce brings to human lives. Fo the "Food delivery", I found the content under the "delivery software service" is focused on the ordering system in the restaurant instead of food delivery, so I added the influence of food delivery application with supportive reference. For the other article, I added the market trend ad benefits of home shopping with two sentences and high-quality references.

Week 8/Assignment 8 2nd/Katxzhang

1. What I did in this article is add a testified example that emotional damage was made to students because of the neglect of teachers on the relevant issue.

2. Comparison: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=School_climate&type=revision&diff=1057625462&oldid=1015200399

3. I learned that schools should care more about students' general wellbeing rather than focusing on academic progress. Because ample research has proved that school climate can eventually impact the academic performance of students, lead to fewer dropouts, which will raise an institution's reputation in the long run. A good school vibe really can make a difference, as it is never meant to be a place for students to suffer. I also learned to research better by filtering articles from different angles then looking into details of a few selected ones.Katxzhang (talk) 20:00, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week6 / assignment 6/ sunnydayreading

Hi, I added a citation for rPET(Recycled polyethylene terephthalate plastic). This is a B grade article which still needs improvement. I found a citation from ScienceDirect that can prove the genus Nocardia can degrade PET with an esterase enzyme. Here is a link to show diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Polyethylene_terephthalate&diff=1057659297&oldid=1049252865 . I have learned how to find a citation wisely. When we are looking for a citation, we need to choose a high quality citation. Therefore, it can be a good idea to search in the academic database or scientific research website.
