Counter-Strike 2 is an upcoming tactical first-person shooter developed by Valve. Utilizing the Source 2 game engine, it will be released for Windows and Linux on Steam as a free upgrade for CSGO.[1]

This is the fourth major installment and first new game version release in 10 years.[2]

Gameplay

Game time Tick rate has been surpassed by subtick, game servers are 128-tick rather than old 64-tick. Load out system has been redesigned from being circular and its buy menu has a button that player can access to refund. The new VAC anti cheating bans cheaters midgame and terminates matches.[3]

Development

Earlier in the previous years there were rumors of Port for CSGO from Source engine.[4] Limited test build exe was discovered in game files in March 2023.[5] The game has improved mechanics, lightning and overall graphics and audio quality than previous entry. [6]

Valve released a beta update for CSGO for a number of users with servers having Vertigo, Dust 2, Overpass, Nuke, Office [7]and Mirage maps as well as unranked match, Wingman and death match modes[8].[9]

Marketing

On Twitter bio page for Counter Strike was changed to CSGO Killer.[10][11]

Events

Esports second 2023 major were canceled.[12] PGL hosts first CS2 major tournament in March 17-31 2024 Copenhagen, Denmark.[13] It is possible a second tournament could be held in Chinese city of Shanghai.[14]

Reviews

Forbes early beta comparison said it is doing some features better compared to Valorant .[15] PCgamesN wrote that it needs women characters.[16]
