The 2023 season is the Houston Texans' 22nd season in the National Football League (NFL) and the first under head coach DeMeco Ryans. Not only did they improve on their 3–13–1 record from last year with a Week 9 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,[1] but also recorded their first winning season since 2019. With a 23–19 win over the Indianapolis Colts in week 18, the Texans qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2019 and after the Jacksonville Jaguars would lose to the Tennessee Titans the day after, the Texans would clinch the division for the first time since 2019.

Offseason

On January 8, the Texans fired Lovie Smith after just one rebuilding season as the head coach with a record of 3–13–1.[2] On January 31, the Texans hired San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator and former player DeMeco Ryans as their new head coach.[3]
