Viking Airlines

Viking Airlines is a privately owned charter airline with head office in Stockholm, Sweden and main ground bases in Athens and Heraklion, Greece. It operates charter flights for European tour operators. The airline was established in 2003 and started operations on 10 May 2003. Viking Airlines has its own flight training programme and aircraft maintenance technicians.

Services

Since late 2005, Viking has operated regular flights to Erbil in Iraq. The airline plans flights from Stockholm to Athens and Beirut from March 2006, though the Beirut flight launch has been delayed to April 2006 and was indefinitely suspended due to the 2006 Lebanonese-Israeli war and conflict in the region. Viking also operates regular flights from Dublin and Lisbon to Heraklion, and vice versa.

The Viking Airlines fleet includes the following aircraft (at May 2007):

• 4 McDonnell Douglas MD-83

Aircraft registrations: SE-RDE, SE-RDF, SE-RDG, SE-RDH. One aircraft is based in the UK. It was flying for Air Scandic in its livery. After Air Scandic's bankruptcy this aircraft continued to fly in the UK for Excel. One aircraft is based in Athens and two are based in Heraklion. For Summer 2006, MD-83 SE-RDH has left the Viking fleet (replaced by SE-RDI) and has joined Greek carrier Sky Wings, operating for Excel in the UK, based at East Midlands airport.
