To be honest, I don't know what happened. We had an argument over the Elvis article, but it seemed like there was something more to it. I don't know, it was very confusing. And I don't know what to do. He's not been on Yahoo, he's not been editing, he hasn't replied to my e-mail. Lara_Love Talk 03:45, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request your assistance

Hey man, could you check this section? It's getting out of hand. V-Dash keeps on bugging these users, including myself. He makes serious accusations towards established admins, and we believe a block is in order, but the involved sysops aren't willing to make the block, since they're involved in the discussion. Would you do the honors? Thanks, and happy editing. J-ſtanTalkContribs 23:29, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

Actually, my goal is pretty much to figure out a place in Wikipedia where I could work well and efficiently, and get to work on that precise spot, but I'm unsure what exactly my best area is, and I was wondering whether you might help me figure that out, since you're an experienced editor and all. Apart from that, my other goals are the usual; get an article or two to featured status (I've been meaning to work on What Is Your Dangerous Idea?: Today's Leading Thinkers on the Unthinkable lately), etc. I'm not too available except on holidays, so I check in some days a week and correct any minor things, but I do my major work (not that I've done much, lazy as I am) on holidays. (BTW, I'm going to try to get rid of my laziness). Oh, and thanks for adopting me! --Slartibartfast1992 00:31, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I definitely am relieved to hear that the amount of time I contribute won't affect how good an edior I am :D . I recently switched to firefox (though I'm still annoyed by MSN messenger using IE for the pop-up emails) which I gather is good since it enables a majority of those scripts you mentioned for my use. I personally would like to solve problems between users (in fact one of the major reasons why I participate in AfD is in case the discussion I participate in turns out to have some arguing in it) so I'd really like to find a place where I could resolve disputes between people, if there is such a place. Whenever I can, I'll try to get What Is Your Dangerous Idea? to featured status.
But we do have a problem with that article. See, we need to cover the contents of the book. But the contents are loads of philosophical ideas (and I mean hundreds) and it would be a bad idea to include all of them in the contents section. So, me and Midorihana (a fellow Wikipedian collaborating on the article) have come up with a new organization: Name one sentence for each idea in a paragraph for a given topic, list all dfferent opinions for say "alien life" in one level-4 headline. But I have recently been thinking that none of the ideas would get much mention that way and it would therefore be another bad idea, since we'd have loads of space about nothing in particular, just a potpourri of opposing sentences. We could just select the most renowned person for each point of view of a topic (no need to repeat the same thing. We might be able to select the best-formatted idea for it. Yeah, that might work. What do you think? --Slartibartfast1992 21:18, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've just started using Lupin's Anti-Vandalism tool and already I'm addicted to it. The only problem I encounter is that when I click "UW-test" or "UW-vand" it just takes me to the edit screen for the vandal's talk page, with no automated message inside. Or is that supposed to happen?--Slartibartfast1992 21:57, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I can post the templates, I just thought that when you clicked those blue links on Lupin's it automatically put the template in the talk page, all filled with the correct info. But I'll go on any way I can. Vandalism never rests! Slartibartfast1992 22:05, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see what the problem is! I need autoedit functionality! Any idea how I get that? Slartibartfast1992 22:09, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. And I got the popups as well (very useful). Slartibartfast1992 22:40, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the scripts do help a lot. And I'll see the MedCab (I had noticed it before, dunno why I didn't check it out). But about What's Your Dangerous Idea? the different people's POV's aren't POV's in the traditional sense of the word. It's POV in the sense of what's written in the book, it's content, where different people express their views as to ideas like intelligent design, etc. If I don't include that, I have no in-book content for the article. So it must include these views. But the question is how, without having to type in 101 views into the article. See my dilemma? Slartibartfast1992 00:51, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, no open cases on the MedCab. Any other place where I might be able to resolve disputes? --Slartibartfast1992 01:17, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I'd be interested in something that deals more with resolving conflicts between users rather than applying in the context of an article; sort of something to help users "get along". I checked out the AMA too; what's your opinion on the claims of it being too bureaucratic? Anyway, I'm gonna go sleep. See you tomorrow. --Slartibartfast1992 01:26, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have an idea. Say we decide, on the talk page, the best two opposite ideas of each topic, and paste only both ideas? They'd be easily understandable, since they would be picked as those of best quality, and there would only be two per subsection in a maximum 7-subsection section, so it would be good on space and people editing the article could make the most out of the ideas. What do you think? --Slartibartfast1992 20:54, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you liked the idea. I'll see if it can be adapted to fit whatever requirements a featured article needs to have and I'll post it on the talk page so that Midorihana and I can get to work deciding which ideas would be best of each subsection, and what topics the subsection should be about.

On another topic, Lupin's AVT kicks ***. It makes fighting vandalism so easy and fast. Plus, I've already got my record for number of edits in a month this December, and only about half the month has gone by!

About the heated AfDs, I always aim at Biographical since they tend to be the most heated ones, but lately I haven't been lucky enough to get arguing madmen. If there's a minor disturbance, I just type in a good argument and they shut up. I hate it when that happens. I don't think the welcome comitee is the thing for me, but I'll check it out anyway. Who knows? I might want to participate in it. I'll keep checking on MedCab, in case any new cases show up.

Thanks, --Slartibartfast1992 15:21, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know everybody is busy with christmas, but tomorrow is also my birthday! (and your talk page isn't the only talk page where I've plastered that notice). Just letting some people know. And, of course, Merry Christmas! (I didn't add a template since I feel they're a bit overused lately). Happy Holidays, --Slartibartfast1992 23:06, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! As you may notice by my absence, I've been enjoying a Wikibreak without even bothering to put a notice up. I guess it's about time to start editing again... --Slartibartfast1992 21:43, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're probably watching, but just letting you know this IP has struck a third time now in the same article. I undid the vandalism. BTW, is this the best way to go about pointing out regular vandals? Or should I be submitting this to some particular forum or user? I chose you because you had already given the user a warning. Cheers. Halogenated (talk) 22:19, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

A wikipedia project that serves as a place where users can get signatures, userboxes.... stuff like that, so they don't have to make it themselves or ask a specific user to do it. What do you think of that idea? RuneWiki777 19:15, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dude

Three things:

  1. You have one of the best userpages I've seen. Nice.
  2. I am very displeased that the pic of the day covers the gif of the BRC thereby completely hiding me. You got something to say?
  3. Less of a social butterfly, could you be? You seriously need to join in the festivities on IRC. In the words of a wise man from some energy drink commercial, "GET TO IT!"

That is all. LaraLove 04:13, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka 04:11, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Charles Kingsford smith 20 dollar note front big.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Charles Kingsford smith 20 dollar note front big.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:12, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After you're done fixing all your fuxed up image uploads, can you photoshop something for the BRC page? I don't particularly care what, but my MSPaint skillz just ain't what they used to be. So, yea... it'd be much appreciated. Thx LaraLove 05:14, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Hey, I hadn't said hi in a while so I just wanted to do so. How's stuff? I'm almost done with my first case in MedCab, so I'm thinking of taking over a new one one of these days. That's more or less what I've been up to. What about you? --Slartibartfast1992 00:16, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Possible COI

Hi there. I'm a newbie (I've been here since mid-January) and I am a little unsure of myself when it comes to handling vandalism, spam, and other possible abuses of Wikipedia, so I am seeking advice or assistance.

This user account has its user page redirecting to a mainspace page, here. In my opinion, this is a pretty blatant COI situation, so I placed a COI tag on the mainspace page and posted a note on the user's talk page. What else can/should be done?

I asked an administrator whom I trust, and he felt that the article may be a deletion candidate and that I might consider placing the WP:PROD tag in the article. But first, he suggested that you might have a better idea of the notability of the subject since you seem involved with a graffiti-related WikiProject. So here I am, asking your advice on where to go from here. Thank you in advance for your trouble. Jonneroo (talk) 13:45, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, but as it's been about 10 days since I posted, and I have not heard from you, please disregard my request. I will seek advice elsewhere. Jonneroo (talk) 00:15, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yo DFRG!

What's going on diggity dog!? Yeah, i'm not with it just yet. But I will be! I been making a fair few edits lately just kind of around the place, keeping my edit counter going up you know? I'm not dead! Well what's up on your side of the frontier lately on wiki? The SFX page has gone to hell, we might have to collaborate on it and get it fixed up again! Cheers Matey! Problem (not anymore!)

I apparently suck at being a mediator. I recognize my first case was a fiasco, but I'm near to closing it, as soon as one of the involved parties returns from a vacation. But I was just taking a new case, and right after I took it (which the requesting user accepted, of course) the user who had requested it asked me to leave the case. I had left my computer for days before I found out about this new message, so I have only recently discovered the message and left the case. I've sent a messsage to a user requesting to mediate a case they requested, but in case they don't want me to mediate for the same reason, do you have any advice? --Slartibartfast1992 19:25, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've just been asked to mediate after all so never mind. But we haven't talked in a while, so what's up? --Slartibartfast1992 21:23, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm doing OK. Last time I checked my contribs I was past 1100, which is good since I haven't been particularly active recently. Anyway, you're right about Lupin's not being what it used to be. When I try to rollback, it doesn't rollback automatically, I have to click "save page" on the opening window. Same for uw-vand and uw-test notices. But I'm actually optimistic about this new case at MedCab. Soon as I finish my homework (getting a hefty amount lately) I'll get to it. If I get kicked out of any other cases, I'll try doing a barrel roll ;) . --Slartibartfast1992 22:01, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
