Crystal is a character from Pokémon Adventures and the protagonist of the game Pokémon Crystal. She first appears in volume 10 and is a new character in the G/S/C arc along with Gold and Silver.

Crystal is a specialist at capturing Pokémon, hired by Professor Oak. As a child, she took a bad fall and broke both of her arms. Because of the accident, she learned to catch Pokémon by kicking Poké Balls, a habit she kept long after her arms healed. Overall, Crystal has an energetic and friendly personality, as well as an excellent intelligence on catching Pokemon.

She had many Pokémon before first appearing, but her "starter" Pokémon was a Chikorita which escaped from Professor Elm's laboratory, desperate to go on a journey. Her Pokémon include a Smoochum, a Hitmonchan, a Parasect, a Arcanine, a Natu and Cubone. At the end of the G/S/C series she rides on the three legendary dogs to go help defeat Mask of Ice.

Later on in the series, she hired Emerald to capture Jirachi during the opening week of the Battle Frontier.

According to the series, she has captured at least one of every non-legendary Pokémon in the world, and has completed the Pokédex in every incarnation. Crystal was able to get legendary Pokemon data thanks to Red and his team.

The character Marina/Dani in the Pokémon anime is based on Crystal.

In Video Games

Crystal has only made one appearance in any video game, as the female protagonist in Pokemon Crystal.

In the Anime

In Pokemon Chronicles, the character Marina represents Crystal and stars in The Legend of Thunder special along with the character based on Gold. Their friend Jackson makes reference to them in the regular Pokemon series during the Johto League Silver Conference, but they are referred to as "Dani" and "Yoshi", as the translators were unaware that Jackson's friends were Marina and Jimmy (Gold) from Pokemon Chronicles.

Crystal makes cameo in the beginning of episode 10 ("Not on my watch you don't!) of Pokemon Diamond & Pearl when Dawn (Hikari in the Japanese anime) flips through a Pokémon Magazine with a picture of Crystal on the cover. Noticing the picture, Dawn, who wants a Pokétch, shows Ash and Brock a picture of Crystal doing a stylish pose with a Pokétch on her arm.

Crystal, as Marina, makes an appearance on the Diamond and Pearl episode Dawn, Zoey & Double Performance! as a Pokémon contest coordinator with a Feraligatr, apparently evolved from the Croconaw she had in Pokemon Chronicles. She also makes a camo appearance as a picture on a man's shirt in "Miltank and the maid cafe."
