The Hopkins Science Department is one of the strongest in the United States. It includes the esteemed Dr. Paul Ricks, department chair, also known as Raul Picks or Steve. He is the coach of the Science Bowl teams, which have won the regionals multiple times, in 2008 and 2009, and which has received second place in the nationals in 2008. The 2009 science bowl team 1 , including Audrey Huang, Adi Jung, Hairuo Guo, Raghu Dhara, and Margaret Shen, will go to Washington D.C. on April 30, 2009. This team is made up of geniuses and prodigies, and will certainly revolutionize the science world and impress all who see them.
The Hopkins Science Department is headed by Dr. Paul Ricks, a Berkeley graduate. The school hosts a National Middle School Science Bowl team. In the 2008 competition, the Hopkins team won second place. This year, the A Team will be competing in the Nationals at Washington D.C. late April to early May.

Hopkins Junior High School is a secondary school in Fremont, California, serving the seventh and eighth grades. It is one of five junior high schools in the city belonging to the Fremont Unified School District. Graduates from four local elementary schools attend Hopkins Junior High. Students leaving Hopkins move on to the Mission San Jose High School. Student may also move on to Irvington High School if they chose. The school had the highest API score for public junior high schools in California for the year of 2005, and the second highest in 2006. In 2007, Hopkins has the highest API in the State of California. [1].


Music Department

The Hopkins Music Department is one of the strongest in the state of California, with the school's concert and jazz bands have receiving high ratings at festivals since 1985. The bands have received first place awards at the Music in the Parks festival in Anaheim, California six times. Hopkins has a new string orchestra program which has also received high ratings, with both the intermediate and advanced orchestras receiving superior ratings at the California Music Educators Association Orchestra Festival in May 2007. The Advanced Orchestra received a rating of 99 out of 100 at this festival, the highest of any junior high or high school group performing.

Science Department

Field Trips

The school runs annual field trips to both New York City and Washington, D.C. The New York trip is organised by the drama department (Ms. Boteilho) and includes visits to famous landmarks and building such as the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, and the Rockefeller Center and features a student performance at a New York theatre. The Washington D.C. trip allows eighth grade students to visit their congressmen, representatives, and notable landmarks such as the Vietnam Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Smithsonian Institution.

Sports

This school also features basketball and volleyball.
