This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Literature. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Literature|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.

Removing a closed AfD discussion

Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.

Other types of discussions

You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Literature. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.

Comment. Eleven books in the series have their own articles - they're linked at Guardians_of_Ga'hoole#Main_Books - and I don't see why this one should be any different. Comment - Neelix, instead of AfDin all the books in the series one by one (i believe books 12 and 14 were AfDed, while 13 and 15 were prodded), why not create for all the eleven together and see if we can achieve consensus to merge everything back into the series article. The only other Guardians of Ga'Hoole book article deletion discussion I have taken part in was for Book 12. I normally try to give each article its own discussion because, even among articles that are very similar, levels of notability often vary. Do you believe all the books to be insufficiently notable to justify separate articles? If so, feel free to create an AfD that includes all the individual book articles. Delete as nominator - It is not silly to delete an article about one in a series. Think of the Smallville episodes; some of the episodes are notable and others are not. If a mass deletion discussion took place, either articles on notable subjects would have been deleted or articles on non-notable subjects would never have been properly addressed. The same may very well be the case with the Guardians of Ga'Hoole books; I believe that they deserve individual discussions. Neelix (talk) 12:11, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I do not believe this page should be deleted-- it's a valid book with great reviews. I was kind of surprised that the book was not on here already and decided to add it.

We have notability standards; not everything that exists deserves an article on Wikipedia. The relevant guideline is WP:NB, which requires multiple, non-trivial reliable sources, which I do not see here. If you are Jennifer Storm, or are working for her, you should realize Wikipedia's strong policy against advertising, and the WP:COI policy. Keep. i think the authors website shows some evidence of notability, although it would have to be verified. mention in the Advocate, and an interview by dr drew, i think helps. see [1]. we cant use her site as a reference, but each individual source can be cited if found online or in print. her position as executive director of stated org, and profiles of her in major outlets, mean that her books (her second one out just now) probably should get automatic notability, as long as they are not trivial themselves (cookbooks, gift books, ephemera, etc). I am probably not ready to do the work to actually improve the article, but thats not necessary here, we just have to decide if there is a possibility the article can show notability.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 06:34, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Draftification was undone so I'm bringing it to AfD. Both the sources used in the article and the sources found online as part of WP:BEFORE are uniquely interviews with the founder, with no sign of independent notability. Delete. Lots of resume-material involving his works, miscellaneous papers, work experience, and poetry writing, but nothing that seems to definitively secure his notability. Subject does not appear to meet relevant notability guidelines and lacks non-trivial coverage from reliable publications. Steps were taken to locate said sources WP:BEFORE this nomination, but were not successful. Note that this article was previously nominated for deletion nearly a decade ago on September 2015, where there was limited discourse and the outcome was speedy keep.

Reviewing the history of this article, there also appears to be a running content dispute over the origin and application of this phrase. While this may be a plausible search term on the internet, I do not see valid sourcing to support this as an article or redirect on Wikipedia, hence my recommendation for deletion.

Delete an IP editor changed this from claiming that Chile was the land of poets to claiming that Somalia was the land of poets. Neither claim is well-sourced or has anything more than a WP:DICTDEF of content. If there were content, it would go at Culture of Somalia (or Chile). Weak keep There are some relevant sources on the phrase, El País, La Prensa (referring to the use of the phrase by President Salvador Allende), Icarito (La Tercera), Chile en el siglo XXI: ¿Nuevos recorridos artísticos, nuevos caminos históricos? ("Chile, donde el eslogan turístico reza 'tierra de poetas'"), Anales de la Universidad de Chile (used in 1861), Di/versos: Poesía queer autobiográfica, Crecimiento con equidad: discursos escogidos, 1992-1994 (President Patricio Aylwin), Escribir con estilo. While these do not go into detail in the phrase itself, these can be used as references as to the use of the phrase dating back to the XIX century. And I did not even use the Spanish translation in the article itself, "país de poetas" but "tierra de poetas". "País de poetas" gives several interesting search results in Google Books and Google Scholar, which should suffice for this article to be kept. --Bedivere (talk) 05:42, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
