The Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (Template:Lang-hi), abbreviated IIM Ranchi or IIM-R, is a college of management located in Ranchi, Jharkhand. It is the eighth Indian Institute of Management in the country. It was inaugurated on July 6, 2010 by the then Governor of Jharkhand M. O. H. Farook.[1]
Campus
This college is operating from a temporary campus in Suchana Bhavan, behind the Governor House premises in heart of Ranchi.[2] The construction of a permanent campus has been initiated at Birhar village on the Khunti-Karra road, about 35 kilometres (22 mi) from Ranchi. In September 2011, the Government of Jharkhand decided that instead the original 214 acres (87 ha) of land allotted, only 76 acres (31 ha) of land will be taken from Birsa Agricultural University.[3]
Programmes
Like other IIMs, IIM Ranchi awards only diplomas, and not degrees.[4] The programmes offered are post graduate programmes at a level equivalent to MBA[5] and include a standard post graduate diploma in management (PGDM) and a part time executive program (PGEXP).[6]
Admissions
Admission to courses at IIM Ranchi is done based upon merit in Common Admission Test, conducted by the various IIMs by a policy of rotation.[7] It has the highest cut-off of all IIMs, 99.66%.[8]
Faculty
The PGP course is being delivered by the world renowned faculty of IIM Calcutta it its formative years. Faculty members fly from Kolkata to Ranchi and alter between teaching at these two IIMs.[citation needed]
Student activities
The clubs and the committees on campus cover diverse interests from finance and marketing to literature, theatre and nature, going beyond the confines of the classroom and the curriculum. These clubs plan to organize various events and workshops throughout the year, to ensure that the extra-curricular scene is dynamic. Apart from providing an avenue for students to showcase their talents, these clubs also encourage students to take the initiative in organizing events and set standards of excellence in various areas. IIMR has a number of clubs like Finesse – the finance club, Marquess Club – the marketing enthusiasts, Aayam - the entrepreneurship club, Samarpan - the Social Responsibility Club, Sankriya - Operations/Strategy Club and Gnosiomania - the quizzing club.
