Throughout railroad history, many manufacturing companies have come and gone. Here is a list of companies that manufactured railroad cars and other rolling stock. As most of these companies built both passenger and freight equipment, no distinction is made between the two for this list.

Note that this list includes names of works owned by railroads for manufacturing their own rolling stock.
