Mio TV (was formerly known as SingTel IPTV) is a 24-hour Pay TV service, introduced by SingTel. It is transmitted through the company's SingNet Broadband network via an Internet Protocol Television service and uses Microsoft Mediaroom as its end to end Software platform. It is a service that will allow multimedia content - including broadcast TV channels and on-demand TV content - to be viewed on any television set. The internet protocol television service utilises IP set-top boxes (STBs), connected over SingTel exStream optical fibers and existing SingTel telephone lines in homes. This mio TV IPTV network has signed over 391 000 Subscribers due to broadcast rights of Barclays Premier League matches on its IPTV Platform. Mio TV, standing for "mORE iN oNE" is SingTel's integrated gateway for home users upon which the company is delivering multiple Internet-based communication services.

History

SingTel IPTV

Mio TV was incorporated on 1 January 2005 with a consortium of SingTel when the then SingTel IPTV. At that time, it was undergoing trial until 1 June 2007.

Mio TV

IPTV service transmissions was launched grand opened inaugurated officially by President of Singapore's Sellapan Ramanathan on 21 July 2007 through subscription, followed by the first subscriptions with offers internet protocol television channels.

In 1 March 2010, Mio TV suffered a three day breakdown in service affecting 20,000 MIO TV subscribers (6 percent of the subscriber base).

In 3 October 2011, Mio TV now has a new interface upgraded to black and there is a new version (1.6.25310.137) firmware for Mio TV.

In 31 October 2011, Mei Ah Drama, Taiwan Central, Korean/Hong Kong Mei Ah Drama On Demand, Taiwan Mei Ah Drama on demand will stop broadcasting on Mio TV Service.

In 30 November 2011, SingTel exStream Fiber(2wire 5012NV-002,Ericsson T063G),ADSL(Aztech DSL1015EW(S)) support Mio TV Service.

In 18 March 2012, SingTel has started to have cross-carriage with StarHub TV

On 13 May 2012, Mio TV suffered mass disruptions to the telecast of the final day of the English Premier League season. Viewers were outraged and many demanded the return of broadcast rights to Starhub.

In 8 June 2012, StarHub TV will cross carriage UEFA Euro 2012 on Mio TV Service.

In 21 July 2012, the Motorola VIP1200AP and VIP1208AP are no longer to new subscribers of mio TV. Instead, SingTel will provide new subscribers with the Tatung 2300 STBs. Existing Motorola OEM STB are however still being used for replacement purposes.

Channels on Mio TV

The service features more than 70 channels including free-to-air channels by MediaCorp, blockbuster movies as well as a Cantonese movie channel. It also offers HDTV channels. SingTel mio TV has been awarded the coveted media rights to the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League 2009-2012. In addition, SingTel have won the rights to air Barclays Premier League matches across its platforms and the 2010 Football League Cup Final, as well as exclusive broadcast rights to ESPN STAR Sports for mio TV. SingTel also acquires most European Football that include FA Cup and Football League Cup.SingTel also recently won the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League as renewal basis and it is not exclusive from 2012-2015 seasons. SingTel has also won the rights to air the Barclays Premier League matches for another three seasons from 2013-2016.
