Lab Rats is an American television sitcom that premiered on February 27, 2012 on Disney XD, which focuses on the life of Leo, whose mother marries billionaire genius Davenport. He meets Adam, Bree, and Chase (Davenport's latest projects), with whom he develops an immediate friendship.[1] The series was created by Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore.
On January 15, 2011, Billy Unger, who plays Chase, stated that the series was originally called Billion Dollar Freshman. However, the pilot was re-shot, with the changing of the name to Lab Rats, and the addition of Bree, the only girl of the group.[2] On May 18, 2012, Lab Rats was renewed for a second season.[3]
Premise
When Leo's mother gets remarried to a billionaire inventor, he moves in with him. When trying to find his bedroom he accidentally discovers teenage siblings with bionic powers living in his new basement. Leo takes them to school for the first time and the show follows the bionic teens as they unravel in adventurous situations in an attempt to live life like a normal family.
Characters
Main characters
- Leo Dooley (Tyrel Jackson Williams) is the fourteen-year-old teen without any abilities'. He is considered a social outcast due to most circumstances considering his short amount of friends. Donald has a lack of trust for Leo due to accidental destruction caused by him. In the second season, Leo is now part of the team. Leo can now move things with his mind and fly, like Adam he has super strength
- Chase Davenport (Billy Unger) is the fifteen-year-old team leader with an incredible intelligence rate. His bionic powers are due to his leadership and nerdy-look. His senses could be considered additional powers. He also has the ability to create force-fields. His glitches are a rude, controlling and tough boy personality, "Spike," and a "Snot Cannon" a sonic sneeze. Chase can take control over his siblings with his override app. He also has a magnetic app. A minor power is using his force fields as weapons by shrinking it into his hands. One of his hidden powers is that he can manipulate molecules around objects in order to control them in a form of telekinesis. He doesn't believe Leo about Marcus being evil.
- Adam Davenport (Spencer Boldman) is the seventeen-year-old lab rat with a shocking strength rate. He has laser vision which was considered one of his glitches at first, given as how he could not use it properly. After the first few episodes he learned how to use it properly. Another glitch occurs when grenades shoot out of his hands whenever he gets too happy. He like Chase doesn't believe Leo about Marcus being evil.
- Breanna "Bree" Davenport (Kelli Berglund) is the sixteen-year-old lab rat with an accelerating speed rate. Her bionic powers are due to her lean figure. She can also jump insanely high. One of her hidden powers is that she can copy other people's voices. She like Chase and Adam doesn't believe Leo about Marcus being evil.
- Donald "Big D" Davenport (Hal Sparks) is a thirty-eight-year-old billionaire inventor and Leo's step-father. He is the father-figure and creator to all of the Lab Rats. He usually seems self-centered, childish and a bit selfish, however he does care about Leo and the Lab Rats a great deal.
Note: The names of the Lab Rats—Adam, Bree and Chase—imply that they were originally known as subjects A, B and C. This is further shown by the fact that Adam (Subject A), was born first, followed by Bree (Subject B), and finally Chase (Subject C).
Secondary characters
- Tasha Davenport (Angel Parker) is Leo's mom, Donald's wife, and a TV reporter. She also acts as a mother figure for Adam, Bree, and Chase, but mostly Bree, because she is the only girl in the house.
- Eddy (Will Forte) is the sarcastic, smart-home system who controls the Lab Rats' house and hates Tasha and the kids.
- Ethan (Garrett Backstrom) is Bree's boyfriend. It appears that he and Bree talk equations to each other. They might have broken up with each other, as shown in "Quarantined." Appeared in "Leo's Jam" and "Smart and Smarter."
- Principal Perry (Maile Flanagan) is the principal of Mission Creek High School. It is unknown why, but she dislikes Leo the most. Her full name is Terry Cherry Perry, as shown when she and Leo "bond" in "Chip Switch".
- Janelle (Madison Pettis) is Leo's crush. Appeared in "Can I Borrow the Helicopter?", "Back From the Future," and "Air Leo."
- Caitlin (Michaela Carrozzo) is Bree's best friend. In "Robot Fight Club" it was revealed that she had a crush on Adam, and also wears glasses. She also develops a crush on Chase at the end of the episode. Appeared in "Death Spiral Smackdown", "Night of the Living Virus," and "Robot Fight Club."
- Marcus (Mateus Ward) is the main antagonist of the series and Leo's enemy. In "Mission: Space" he installed a hidden spy camera in Davenport's lab and showed it to his boss who is possibly Davenport's arch enemy or Davenport's twin brother. In "Speed Trapped" he shot lasers out of eyes and almost hit Leo,which revealed that he is bionic, just like Adam, Bree, and Chase. He threatens to reveal Adam, Bree and Chase's secret if Leo tells anyone the truth about Marcus. In a recent "who is Marcus" it is revealed that he has the ability to move stuff with his mind.
