Bandy merger

I propose to merge List of bandy clubs in the United States, American Bandy Association, and American Bandy League into a new article titled, Bandy in the United States. These three articles are all short, with a significant amount of overlap. A single article could include all of the information contained in those three, and present a more robust and better organized view of the topic. Please discuss this proposal at Talk:List of bandy clubs in the United States. -- RoySmith (talk) 00:11, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Non-admin "no consensus" closures

Hello,

A question for you based on the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oakhill Christian School AfD closure as no consensus:

I may be ill-informed as to precedent, but from what I gather aren't controversial AfD closures supposed to be left to an admin to close (i.e. almost any active debate that would end in "no consensus")?

(WP:NACD): "Close calls and controversial decisions are better left to an administrator."

(WP:NAC): "Extra care should be taken if a closure may be controversial or not clearly unambiguous. With the understanding that the closure may be reversed, non-admins should generally avoid closing such discussions."

Not trying to give you a hard time here. I've never ventured a NAC so don't know precedent (but it's true I was disappointed in the no consensus decision). --— Rhododendrites talk03:15, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Rhododendrites: I take my nac closures seriously, so thanks for your inquiry. I don't view the closure as a close call nor as controversial. In my opinion, the no consensus closure is quite clear relative to the various arguments existent within the discussion. It's not particularly a close call because while AfD is not a vote count, the keep !votes significantly outnumber the delete !votes and the arguments for the article to be retained are mostly guideline-based. However, the opinions delineated in the many delete !votes are also guideline-based, which prevents a keep closure from being appropriate in this case. Both sides in the discussion have valid points, and ultimately there is no consensus for the article to be retained or deleted. Please respond at your convenience. NorthAmerica1000 03:29, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Going back to look at the arguments, I think your rationale seems perfectly reasonable. Thanks for taking the time to clarify. --— Rhododendrites talk03:39, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Shoe size

I got myself in a muddle reverting changes, can you please revert the "Shoe size" page to include the children's comparison size image (which I use frequently) in the "Shoe size comparison" section... many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brisbane1965 (talkcontribs) 13:40, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

User:Brisbane1965: I recommend that you stop editing the article for awhile. In the revision history for the article, you have been removing content, which I reverted, and most recently you've made many sudden changes to the article. Your edits are unclear, and at this time you should discuss your ideas on the article's talk page at Talk:Shoe size rather than continuing to use Wikipedia's page reversion functions in this unclear manner. Thanks for considering this. NorthAmerica1000 14:14, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. I was trying to revert all changes backwards to the re-inclusion of the Children's comparison image, but I inadvertently undid some of my own revisions. I will allow you to revert the page to a stable state, and now that I watch this page I can more closely follow the individual edits and more quickly respond to inappropriate edits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brisbane1965 (talkcontribs) 14:21, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your series of self reverts left the article at a stable version (revision 605394743). It may be better for a more experienced user to patrol this page, per the errors that you created on it when working to patrol. NorthAmerica1000 14:31, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

NAC

Hey NA, I don't believe Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Phoebe Allen's Hummingbird Webcam qualified for a non-admin closure since its outcome required judgment and NACs are reserved for housekeeping. NAC "no consensus" closures are only for discussions where there is little to no discussion—it's more "no consensus with no prejudice for renom" than a ticket to close "no consensus" methinks. czar  04:34, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Czar: I base nacs upon WP:NACD, which is part of Wikipedia's deletion guideline, and I take my nacs seriously. It doesn't state the criteria therein that you describe above. Regarding the close, it doesn't appear that a WP:NPASR closure would be appropriate in this case, because therein it states "If a nomination has received no comments from any editor besides the nominator (or few in the case of AfDs), the discussion may be closed at the closer's discretion..." There was an adequate number of participants in the discussion (more than a "few" participants). Also there were enough participants that a relisting isn't necessary. Please respond at your convenience. NorthAmerica1000 04:50, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the verdict was the wrong call—I just wanted to point out that I saw such a closure as outside the bounds of our working NAC framework (that this close was NC and not NC+NPASR). Yes, it's fine by NACD, but NACD doesn't go into detail. Anyway, your action to decide—just wanted to mention it to you. Have a good one czar  04:59, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. In this instance, I feel that there were just enough participants to not close with a WP:NPASR clause, although it is somewhat close. However, lack of a WP:NPASR close does not preclude the article being renominated for deletion. NorthAmerica1000 05:03, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • No, you're incorrect. My edit was not unconstructive in any manner. The way you reworded my addition is not written as such in the source I added to the Oatcake article. Speedy deletion declined: User:Bubbalue/sandbox

Hello Northamerica1000. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User:Bubbalue/sandbox, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: User does exist. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 16:29, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Malik Shabazz: requesting clarification. Check out User:Bubbalue, in which the "Wikipedia does not have a user page with this exact name" occurs, and User talk:Bubbalue which presently doesn't exist. NorthAmerica1000 15:50, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Northamerica1000. While it was true that Bubbalue didn't have a User page or a User talk page, the editor had made two edits. See Special:Contributions/Bubbalue. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 02:13, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again User:Malik Shabazz: Thanks much for the clarification. I have addended the Criteria for speedy deletion policy page to reflect this (diff), since the wording there was somewhat vague regarding WP:U2 criteria. NorthAmerica1000 03:46, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The above was reverted by another user (diff) with the edit summary, "It's possible for an account to be registered and have a legitimate user page without having any contributions". I've sent them a notice about this discussion to request input. NorthAmerica1000 03:54, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)All four of these things are completely independent of each other:
  • User account exists
  • User has contributions
  • User page exists
  • User talk page exists
If and only if the account doesn't exist (which will be indicated via a big message in red text), then pages under that account's userspace are eligible for U2. In this case, the user does exist (and has contributions, but that's not important), so U2 doesn't apply, even though the user's user page doesn't exist. What you wrote on the CSD policy page is wrong because it's possible for an account to exist but have no contributions, such as a doppelganger account. Context in article

Hello, I saw that my article (HTML5 Article) was declined due to the article's context. I was wondering if there was anything specific that you saw wrong that I might improve on? Thank you. Pbbalduc (talk) 22:47, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Pbbalduc: I declined the Articles for creation submission at User:Pbbalduc/sandbox because it contained no content other than the title. Content needs to be existent beyond a title to be considered for an article. NorthAmerica1000 15:55, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of interest in AfDs?

Hi, I'd like to ask you a question which I think you can answer. If an AfD literally has no interest at all other than from the nominator, how many times can the discussion be relisted while waiting for community feedback? I'm assuming there must be some sort of limit. MezzoMezzo (talk) 04:07, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:MezzoMezzo: Check out WP:RELIST, part of Wikipedia's Deletion process guideline page for detailed information about relisting, which includes information about relisting limitations. NorthAmerica1000 15:28, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the link, it seems that two is the rough limit. Assuming that nobody responds and the closer desides to close with no prejudice against a speedy renomination, what happens if the same situation occurs again? If the articles aren't prod material, could they fall into a continuous loop of reasonable nominations for deletion but a simple lack of interest on the part of the community in even seconding the nomination? MezzoMezzo (talk) 05:10, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
User:MezzoMezzo: Per WP:NPASR, articles described as above can be deleted. An option at WP:NPASR includes "closing in favour of the nominator's stated proposal." NorthAmerica1000 05:15, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. You proposed merging Cannabis and lobbying efforts into Decriminalization of non-medical cannabis in the United States (a proposal I support, by the way), but you did not open a discussion anywhere about the topic. Ref Columns

Hi -- I have a question. I noticed on an article that you and I both edited recently that you added a "|2" to make the references section two columns. I've often done that in the past as well.

An editor is continually reverting me, and reverting as well the prior long-established formats of articles that are "|2". Insisting that a "|2" format is strictly verboten. And only em columns are allowed.

Thoughts? Thanks. --Epeefleche (talk) 07:19, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
