== How I Became The Bomb page delete ==

you deleted the page i was creating for this up and coming nashville band because i didn't have "references" and they weren't "important"...

just so you know they were mentioned on Pichfork media's website as a part of the Athens Pop Fest they're playing... along people with major record deals like The Apples in Stereo, Circulatory System, Deerhoof, and The Mountain Goats
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/36760/Deerhoof_Mountain_Goats_OhOk_Head_Athens_Popfes

there are local magazine interviews
http://www.nashvillerage.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060511/RAGE0203/605110301/1207/RAGE02

they have a video for the song "secret identity"
http://youtube.com/watch?v=V8fFx8c3TJI

been featured on podcasts and radio
http://weownthistown.net/?p=206

there are good quality photo galleries
http://flickr.com/photos/wafflelad/sets/72057594096814777/

people 2000 miles away blog about their music
http://www.westondeboer.com/music/how-i-became-the-bomb/

so... just because i didn't have the articles paraphrased or the page done YET... you deleted it. if you don't mind, please let me have it back. i'll have the band history before too long, and then it will go up as well.

that is, if they are important enough. just because they are taking nashville by storm and bringing rise to a genre that isn't heard much in tennessee doesn't mean that you have to delete the page... or does it?

My RfA

Dear Kimchi.sg — Thank you for your support on my recent RfA. It succeeded with a final tally of 72/2/0 and I am now an administrator. I'll be taking things slowly at first and getting used to the new tools, but please let me know if there's any adminnery I can help you with in the future. —Whouk (talk) 08:11, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CorbinSimpson's Request for Adminship

Thanks for voting in my request for administrator rights, even though it failed (13/30/4). Sadly, work has forced me to respond to you all using a substituted message rather than a personalized response. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that administrators, to me, should be chosen and approved by the community, and I will continue working to become a better editor and Wikipedian. No matter what the alignment of your vote was, I will take your comments seriously and use them to improve myself. If you wish to discuss your comments personally with me, I would be more than glad to talk about things since the RfA is now over; just leave your concern on my talk page and we will sort things out. Thanks again for voting, and happy editing! - Corbin Be excellent

Yes, I will come for the meetup, no matter how long my Wikibreak is. This Wikibreak will not affect any real life activities. A happy belated WikiBirthday, sorry forgot all about it. --Terence Ong (talk | contribs) 02:56, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't have the time to sort all of them out until I have backlogs until two weeks back. But I will always ask people to judge for me through chatting off-Wiki. I will upload my pictures regularly though, I do have doubts over some pictures, that's why I'm delaying the uploading. --Terence Ong (talk | contribs) 03:18, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Commons and lang wiki images

Hello. I wonder if you could help with a question I have. Is there a way to request that images be moved from fr.wikipedia or de.wikipedia to Commons, so that they can be accessed here, subject to licensing restrictions of course. The images that interest me are PD or G*L, so I don't think that's an issue. I know that I can download the image and upload it to Commons, but I wondered if there was a "proper" way to do it. Any ideas ? Angus McLellan (Talk) 13:03, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship and You

Hi,

I am quite impressed with your thoughtful and calm demeanor and obvious dedication to the project. I haven't the faintest idea why you are not yet an administrator (perhaps it isn't to your liking?), but I would be honored to nominate you if that is an avenue you wish to pursue; or, of course, to support you strongly if another nominator is waiting in the wings! ;) Best wishes, Xoloz 16:56, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just in case you're not checking your watchlist every 2 mins, or more likely that it's got lost in the flood of support, I'm letting you know that I've added an additional question to your RFA. Cheers, Petros471 20:18, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Heya, please chat with me on irc sometime (irc.freenode.net #wikipedia) , if you'd like my support. (And also, on how to answer Petros471s evil question about Ignore All Rules) Kim Bruning 21:06, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(Sorry, didn't notice your comment until now.) I've answered that question already. :) As for IRC, can't join #wikipedia right now as I'll be out for the whole afternoon (Singapore time). I may go there at 1300 UTC today, but no guarantees. Personally, I dislike IRC and MSN, because they take my eyes off WP. ^_^ Kimchi.sg 03:46, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism on User:Tijuana Brass

Hi, Kimchi. Sorry, I didn't mean to revert you on User:Tijuana Brass--I didn't get an edit conflict, for some reason. Anyway, TB has declared that he's happy and amused with the dwarves vandalising his page, so I thought I'd not roll back but merely add a sharp-toothed "Darwinbish" to scare the vandalfish. But of course re-do your action, if you prefer! P.S. Sorry the wolfstar/pussycat made a nasty mess at your RFA. But, well, that's what it does. (Compare ANI thread here). Hello

Hi i was just wondering, can you please ask permsission for someone to create a forum pls? ty.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Necrowarrio0 (talkcontribs) 03:33, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm not very sure what your question means. Does it mean, "can you please ask permission for someone to create an article about an online forum?" If that is what you meant, you can go ahead and write the article yourself, but it is subject to our content guidelines, such as what Wikipedia is not and notability. But if you're unsure, just go ahead and write it, we can always discuss its suitability for Wikipedia later. ;) Kimchi.sg 03:41, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, i meant it so that can Wikipedia create a forum which anyone can talk about anything? Of course, it would be Monitored.

Hmm... no. You cannot use Wikipedia for a forum; please see What Wikipedia is not. This is an official policy, so there is no way this rule can be waived. (I misunderstood your question at first.) Kimchi.sg 22:07, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stuff under redirs

The redlinks in the text made it get flagged by Special:BrokenRedirects. Rob Church nommed me for adminship, once upon a time, then de-nommed me, and, well, it wasn't quite unanimous support. Removing the button wouldn't make a difference- my last block wasn't even using the big red button. The edit conflicts were just a recent flurry of activity in that section (and you should be using the + button to avoid edit conflicts); TB2's talk is much more active. --Rory096 07:24, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Weird, MediaWiki doesn't conflict if you're editing two different sections, so one would think the + would be the same. Maybe someone else was adding a new section too, or something. I'll annoy robchurch in the morning, if I remember. --Rory096 08:54, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio image tagging

No, I think that tag is more for permission images with fair use rationales, or something (I've actually never seen that particular one in use). It should probably go on PUI, but if it gets deleted that way, it's fine too (though I'm not sure that category is patrolled much). Yes, {{nothanks}} is probably the only template to give him, but personalized messages aren't against the rules! Weird that Tdxiang would tag it like that, he's an experienced editor. --Rory096 08:54, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greg Bravo and Steam

I nominated Greg Bravo (Gary Scott) for deletion because of false information. I have edited a related site, Steam (band), which is linked to by the Greg Bravo site. I have added the names of the original musicians and sources as well as indicating that the musicians were from Bridgeport, CT. I believe that the anon. users who were vandalizing the Greg Bravo AfD and dispute tags are reverting the [[Steam (band)] article back to a version that is more compatible with Greg Bravo's assertion that he is the lead singer.

Could you advise me what to do, since I do not feel that reverting back and forth with an anonymous editor (who is likely to be the banned Musicknight/Countdewiki) is going to be productive.

I am still looking for verifiable evidence of the names of the touring band in '69-'70. If I cannot find this evidence, I will remove the list of touring band members. --Fortheloveofhampsters 17:28, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If the reverting is frequent and the anons have not been willing to use the Talk page for discussion, please submit a request for page protection. An admin will take a look to see if the page should be "locked" to a particular version (it might be to the "wrong" version!) to stop the reverting. Kimchi.sg 20:02, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Basic Vandalism Query

Hello. I've been encountering vandalism in a few on the articles I watch, and would like to do something more than simply reverting the vandal's edits. However, I couldn't figure out the best way to take action. Could you advise please? Wowbobwow12 21:40, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You should warn a vandal using the {{test1}} to {{test4}} templates after reverting his change. Sometimes it could just be a new user testing if "edit this page" really works, and this will be a polite way of telling him it does (I ran into one such newbie user today). If the user does not stop after {{test4}}, report him to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism for administrator action. Wikipedia:Vandalism has a list of the most common vandalism warning templates, as well as when to use them. Regards, Kimchi.sg 21:53, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

CHEESQUIRE page

You know what, I posted a page, and picture of my Grandfather Cheesesquire. You removed it, stating it was copyrighted from a newspaper. Not only did I plan on adding to it in the future, the article itself was written with my families permission, and the images are form us, as we took them.

I also DID give credit to the writer. However, HE wrote it, WE gave him his information. It is a story about OUR family.

I would have to say it is VERY rude to delete it without warning. I guess it makes someone feel important.

Anyways, I would appreciate it being restored.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by The Cyndicate (talkcontribs) 13:00, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

If a journalist for The Graham Star wrote the article in his own words and it was published in the newspaper, the copyright for the article would be with the newspaper, regardless of where the journalist got his information from. If you want the text to be available on Wikipedia, please send The Graham Star a letter or email requesting them to either:
  1. Make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL at the site of the original publication, or
  2. Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions at wikimedia dot org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation.

The main reason I listed Cygnus x1.jpg as an AFD is because it is a direct scan or copy of a page from a Rush album, so either way, it needs to be deleted as it is a big copy vio (which is much worse that a simple redundant image). Dark jedi requiem 15:21, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All the creators are buzzing with Ideas and they just want to show the world what theyre all about and it's important to them and alot of people, so don't try and deleate it please.

Thanks.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hcb (talkcontribs) 15:34, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

iskra deleated?

ok I am confused to how the band iskra fit that criteria. I read all the info on the pages about the criteria. Iskra has founded a genre of music and is exstreamly contraversial in that genre, how is this make them no important enough for a page on wikipedia?

Peacecore 22:57, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reading our notability ("uniqueness") criteria for music groups. I saw the article claims that Iskra founded the genre of Blackened crust, but a Google search suggests that it is not really a well-known genre at all. There are only 29 unique Google hits for "blackened crust" genre. [1] The second factor that prompted me to delete the article is that it has no links to reliable sources (such as a newspaper or magazine) that discuss the band or mention any of the information in the article.
You may look for references in newspapers or other places (besides the band's own website) that mention the band and its unique characteristics, and re-create the article with links to these references. Regards, Kimchi.sg 14:55, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

University of Chicago Science Fiction Club

The University of Chicago Science Fiction Club was the center of the science fiction world in Chicago for at least thirty years. The article I posted covered the years I was active in it. Almost every name mentioned was of someone well known in science fiction fandom. Several were published authors. One was a science fiction publisher. Two were science fiction magazine editors.

By the way, that brings up a point. I realize (and agree with) your efforts to avoid becoming a personal sounding board for anyone. In the usual case, No Original Research is an excellent policy. But what about the case where what is being reported is an eye witness account of events observed as they happened? If the account is reasonably objective, shouldn't it be allowed if the matter otherwise meets the Wikipedia standars?

I feel this can be particularly important with a subject like science fiction, which for many years was dismissed by many as something not worth serious attention. This has resulted in an impoverished written record for the field, or writings in places like letter columns or material published by amateurs.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by LenZettel (talkcontribs) 23:17, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kelly Roberti

Hi, Kimchi.sg. Speedy delete criterion A8 requires the source to be a commercial content provider - a business that makes money directly from the content that has been copied. You closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kelly Roberti as a speedy deletion under A8, but the artist does not make money from the content that has been copied, his biography, he makes money from his artwork. It would have been closer to an A8 if an image of his artwork had been copied, but A8 only applies to text.

His biography may be considered advertising intended to increase sales and make more money, but except in some unusual situations, people do not pay to see advertising. Money must be made directly from the content that has been copied, like a subscription encyclopedia article. Also, posting advertising to Wikipedia helps his business, rather than hurting it. Finally, there is a decent chance that he posted the material himself, giving permission for it to be used. There is a chance that he may try to unrelease it if he was unaware that the content can be edited by others, but there is still a fair chance that he will still let it be posted and he has given permission under the GFDL nonetheless by posting it.

I don't know if you were around when A8 was crafted ("around" meaning participating or reading the discussion), but it was made to only delete material that has almost no chance of being used with permission. Encyclopedia Britannica and the New York Times, for example, are very unlikely to let us use one of their articles after it has been posted to Wikipedia and it is even less likely that someone with the authority to release the article under the GFDL would post the article to Wikipedia himself or herself. Since A8 is so narrow, it is not very useful, but it was crafted this way to make it nearly impossible for content that we might be able to get permission for to be deleted, if the rules are followed.

The commercial content provider provision is ignored by some editors and admins, as is the under 48 hours old provision (included to prevent Wikipedia mirrors being mistaken as sources), and I won't bug you if you decide to ignore it as well. You could try to expand the criterion, instead. This has been unsuccessful in the past, but it might gain consensus now. I'll be offline for a little while, so I won't respond immediately to any replies. Thanks, Kjkolb 04:38, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You removed an alert on the grounds it was not recent. Can you please check? Some vandalism (partial page blanking, removal of warnings) was done by the IP today. Andjam 17:05, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't say the vandalism was "not recent", but that both of them had "stopped vandalising" by the time final warnings were issued to them. We don't need to block if the vandal has stopped after the last warning. Regards, Kimchi.sg 17:15, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The user removed warnings after being given a final warning for vandalism. Does that not count? Andjam 17:21, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No it doesn't. The removal of warnings was after I removed the report from AIV. The report was there for a good 12 minutes. At the worst if he insists on removing warnings his talk page may be protected, but the fact is, he was warned only 3 times for vandalism recently (including blanking his talk page). That is insufficient warning to merit a block. Kimchi.sg 17:32, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I presume Andjam is referring to me as the user "he wants to see blocked." Hi, I'm new to Wiki and I must point out that user Andjam and Sdedeo are both blocking any attempts by me to add an npov edit to the article, "CAIR."

First it was the user Sdedeo who tried to deal with my grievances, but since he wouldn't want to deal with me, he alerted Andjam to help him protect the page.

Andjam then revereted all of my previous changes from yesterday (which took me painstakingly 3 hours) on the grounds that 2 phrases didn't adhere to NPOV. I asked him, then why not remove those two phrases instead of my entire edit for the article. I mean that doesn't justify you removing all of my amendments to the article. But he didn't respond and is trying to block me anyway he possibly can.

Now I fear they are trying to boot me from Wiki by using my gullibility against me. I also fear they are trying to quell my protest of neutrality of CAIR article, by reporting me as being a 'vandal.'

I removed part of the article and erroenously pressed the 'saved' button. I then proceeded to remove the warning on the talk page. That function deleted the rest of the article. I apologized saying it was done out of mistake and not out of malicious intent, but the user "andjam" didn't respond.

Could you kindly remove the warnings on my page, or direct me to those in charge of doing that? As you can see both of these users are "teaming up" you can read their comments on andjam's talk page.

I'll really appreciate your help and mediation if you'd be able to read the discussion page for CAIR and tell him to revert to my changes. I even offer lengthy reasons for my edits, but the original user, sdedeo called it blabbering. I would welcome your help. But could you please tell me, what I should do when you editors constantly reverting my edits on an article and try and block me? Can I keep reverting to my page?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.225.226.57 (talkcontribs) 19:21, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

No, you cannot. Please discuss on the talk page of the article, listen to other editors, and try to work out which changes to include or not include. Kimchi.sg 03:07, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reply from Blastphemy

Dear Kimchi it would have been nice if you had asked me about the copyright violation issue BEFORE deleting something that took me such a long time to do! I can assure you that I have not committed any violation in respect of your concerns and actually own the copyright to www.kelly-roberti.com The text on Kelly Roberti's bigraphy page was given to me by Kelly Roberti to use as I wish.

Now - I would like to know if there is any way of retrieving the article without having to spend time in re-creating it ?

I'd also like to assure you that I am capable and indeed HAVE read all of the guidelines regarding wikipedias strict copyright rules etc.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Blastphemy (talkcontribs) 17:46, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Regarding Kelly Roberti page and Blastphemy's response

I see that Blastphemy has restored the entire Kelly Roberti page after you speedy-deleted it. I didn't necessarily expect you to delete it immediately, but thought there might be some discussion. Blastphemy claims that he was given permission to use the copyrighted material. But (1) how can he prove that? And (2) even so, just copying material from a musician's own Web page is, as you know, not acceptable according to Wiki policies. I have marked the page for deletion review again but do not know if I followed the correct procedure, since the whole thing was completely restored by the original author. Could you please look into this further? I will also leave a message on Blastphemy's talk page. Thanks. Alan W 23:22, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Response from Miranda (blastphemy) regarding Kelly Roberti contribution:

Hmmmm ... if everybody went around deleting information they had heard or read elsewhere, or that was relatively common public knowledge, I'm not entirely sure that wikipedia would be here!

I can indeed prove that I am the copyright owner of www.kelly-roberti.com and that I have Kelly Roberti's express permission to use his biographical content as and wherever I see fit. Can you prove that you are a fair decision maker ?

Please tell me what you need and where to send the proof of copyright ? And where Kelly Roberti may have to send his agreement ?

If there are any other issues you would like to debate please don't hesitate.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Blastphemy (talkcontribs) 02:21, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of 'The Loaded Dog'

How's it going? I just got your message that the article I created was deleted because it was not an actual article, but just Henry Lawson's short story. Sorry about that- I didn't realise. But I just need some clarification. If I write a relatively detailed description of the short story, that's acceptable isn't it? Does this mean that I cannot have the actual story in the article at all? What about Lawson's poetry- are we allowed to use that at all? Thanks! Ackatsis 13:34, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We can write articles about literary works, but the contents of the works themselves should not be inside the articles, except for quotation purposes. For example, we have an article about Hamlet, but the text of the play isn't in there; instead we store the text of the play at Wikisource. Kimchi.sg 13:27, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I guess I'll just have to include external links to the actual short stories. Ackatsis 13:34, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that the book was published in 1901, and hence should be public domain worldwide (the 1911 Encyclopaedia Brittanica, which was published even later, is already public domain). Hence you should seriously consider submitting the text of it to Wikisource. It will be made always available and freely sharable, and easier to link to from Wikipedia. Deletion of AWIMB

Hi,

Can you explain why you deleted this page please? Was it due to a complaint?

Ben.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.86.213.196 (talkcontribs) 14:32, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

It sounded like incoherent nonsense to me. If it was a page for an online forum or community, as the reasoning for speedy deletion seemed to indicate, it did not assert the notability of the group according to Wikipedia's guidelines. Either way it was deletion fodder. Kimchi.sg 14:37, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How I Became The Bomb page delete

you deleted the page i was creating for this up and coming nashville band because i didn't have "references" and they weren't "important"...

just so you know they were mentioned on Pichfork media's website as a part of the Athens Pop Fest they're playing... along people with major record deals like The Apples in Stereo, Circulatory System, Deerhoof, and The Mountain Goats http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/36760/Deerhoof_Mountain_Goats_OhOk_Head_Athens_Popfes

there are local magazine interviews http://www.nashvillerage.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060511/RAGE0203/605110301/1207/RAGE02

they have a video for the song "secret identity" http://youtube.com/watch?v=V8fFx8c3TJI

been featured on podcasts and radio http://weownthistown.net/?p=206

there are good quality photo galleries http://flickr.com/photos/wafflelad/sets/72057594096814777/

people 2000 miles away blog about their music http://www.westondeboer.com/music/how-i-became-the-bomb/

so... just because i didn't have the articles paraphrased or the page done YET... you deleted it. if you don't mind, please let me have it back. i'll have the band history before too long, and then it will go up as well.

that is, if they are important enough. just because they are taking nashville by storm and bringing rise to a genre that isn't heard much in tennessee doesn't mean that you have to delete the page... or does it?
