Shortcuts

Requests for undeletion is a process intended to assist users in restoring pages or files that were uncontroversially deleted via proposed deletion, under certain speedy deletion criteria (such as maintenance deletions or rejected Articles for creation drafts), or in "articles for deletion" debates with little or no participation other than the nominator. This page is also intended to serve as a central location to request that deleted content be userfied or emailed to you so the content can be improved upon prior to re-insertion into the mainspace, or used elsewhere (you may also make a request directly to one of the administrators listed here). This means that content deleted after discussion—at articles for deletion, categories for discussion, or miscellany for deletion among other deletion processes—may in some cases be provided to you, but such controversial page deletions will not be overturned through this process. Copyright violations and attack pages will not be provided at all.

This page is only for requesting undeletion of articles or files which have already been deleted. If the article you are concerned about is still visible, but has a warning message (template) at the top, please do not post here, but follow the instructions in the template or on your talk page.

Note that requests for undeletion is not a replacement for deletion review. If you feel an administrator has erred in closing a deletion discussion or in applying a speedy deletion criterion, please contact them directly. If you discuss but are unable to resolve the issue on their talk page, it should be raised at Wikipedia:Deletion review, rather than here.

GitLab is the only product/service listed in Comparison of open-source software hosting facilities which doesn't have it's own article and is also significantly more common than others on the list and was mentioned in Chicago Tribune; I don't see why it shouldnt qualify too -Diskurs (talk) 14:23, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

GitLab is used by over 100,000 organizations and hundreds of software developers have voluntarily committed code to the project. It is mentioned in over a dozen other Wikipedia articles. There is no AFC submission for GitLab, and it was not deleted by WP:CSD#A7.

  • Read WP:Notability and WP:Notability (summary)
  • Identify independent reliable sources discussing GitLab
  • Contact the administrator who closed the deletion discussion, user Mark Arsten (talk), linking your sources, and ask him to restore the article so that you can add references. Alternatively, he may agree to "userfy" the article - move into a sub-page in your user space where you can work on it.
  • If he is happy with the result, he will restore it; if not, you can appeal at WP:Deletion review.

Dr. Salman M.A. Salman

The article was deleted because it lacked sufficient copyright. I would like to recover the page and contents in order to edit the copyrights which were taken from the website which I own, www.salmanmasalman.org.

This is my first time working on wikipedia so I thought that saving it would keep the content in draft before before going for final editing and publication. Could someone also please explain how I can now re-edit this page and have it edited by WP editors before going live?

@Sarsalman: Please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, because you clearly have one regarding this subject. To answer your other points:
There is no way we can restore copyrighted material. The page content can be emailed to you, but there isn't really any point to that if it came from a public website to begin with. To make it acceptable for use on Wikipedia, the copyright holder would need to put a notice (like a footer) on the web page saying that the information is released to the public domain, or released under an acceptable free license. Or, the copyright holder would need to use the template at WP:CONSENT to send an official permission statement to the Wikimedia Foundation, from a verifiable address.
As to your final question, because you have a conflict of interest, your best venue for submitting articles is Wikipedia:Articles for creation. There, neutral editors will review your submission prior to accepting it for publication on Wikipedia. This may involve multiple submit-reject rounds before it is accepted. To ensure acceptance, the article must be written in a neutral manner and conform to the requirements outlined in Wikipedia:Golden rule.

@Sarsalman: yes, you can, but you may find it harder than you think, because Wikipedia is not intended as a place like Facebook or LinkedIn for people to write about themselves, and an encyclopedia article is a different thing from a CV. Start by reading Wikipedia:Autobiography, and note in particular that if an article about you is accepted, you will not own it or be able to insist on your preferred version: others can and will edit it. If you want a page about yourself that you can control, Wikipedia is not the site for you.
The inclusion criteria are stated at Wikipedia:Notability, WP:Notability (people) and WP:Notability (academics). WP:Donating copyright materials explains how to make the necessary copyright release for any material from your own website that you want to use.
In line with the WP:Conflict of interest guideline, you should not post an article directly, but submit it by the WP:Articles for creation process, for an uninvolved user to review. Read WP:Your first article and WP:Writing better articles for advice.
One further note: as a Wikipedia contributor you have a "User page" at User:Sarsalman, but that is not intended for extended biographical material; its use is explained at WP:NOTWEBHOST and WP:User pages. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 19:21, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Um, slight correction.... "If I re-write the article content and include a copyright holder" -- no, you can't include a copyright holder in any Wikipedia article, because you irrevokably give up any claim for anything you write on Wikipedia. If you want to copy material from a web site you own, you must follow the procedure I described above: either put a notice on your web site that the particular page being copied is in the public domain or releasable under an acceptable free license, or write to OTRS with a legal notification of release under an acceptable free license. Those are your only options for copying material from elsewhere to Wikipedia. The release notice should not be on the Wikipedia page, but on the source website, thus making it clear that the actual owner of the site is granting the release. It would typically be at the head or foot of the page, like a copyright notice, but the actual placing is not important. The procedure is explained, and a form of words suggested, at WP:Donating copyrighted materials.

The page you wrote was made into a redirect in preference to deleting it, but it would not have been an acceptable article, because (a) it gave no indication that the book is notable enough to have an article - Wikipedia is quite selective about subjects, and not every book deserves an article, see WP:Notability (books); and (b) it was almost entirely plot summary. An article about a book needs more than that, see WP:NOTPLOT #1. Don't be discouraged, but read WP:WAF for advice about writing acceptable book articles. It now does have a use, in Miranda Lawson (I've commented out the redlink to the image for the moment, will place in as soon as image is restored). Article Deleted in 2011 because it was a small article and deemed 'Unremarkable;' Doesn't appear it was deleted for any other reason than it was a small article. This article was deleted after a discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Briggsdale, Columbus, Ohio, so should not be undeleted here; but I have restored it into the Draft namespace at Draft:Briggsdale, Columbus, Ohio, where your students can work on it. Before returning it to the main encyclopedia, please consult the administrator who closed the discussion, user Tone (talk), who may decide that it should go through another WP:AFD discussion.
The reason for deletion was not that the article was short, but that it gave no references to show that Briggsdale met Wikipedia's inclusion criterion, WP:Notability, which looks for evidence of "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject."
The result of previous discussions on articles like this is summed up at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Common outcomes:
  • Cities and villages anywhere in the world are generally kept, regardless of size or length of existence, as long as that existence can be verified through a reliable source. This usually also applies to any other area that has a legally recognized government, such as counties, parishes and municipalities.
  • Larger neighborhoods are usually kept if their names are found to have verifiable widespread usage.
  • Smaller suburbs are generally merged, being listed under the primary city article, except when they consist of legally separate municipalities or communes (e.g., having their own governments).
The neighbourhood is presently covered at Neighborhoods in Columbus, Ohio#Briggsdale. Whether a stand-alone article can be justified will depend on how much coverage you can find. That will also help to meet the WP:Verifiability requirement. WP:WikiProject Ohio is a group of users interested in this area, where your students may be able to get help and advice. Rosemount International School (formerly Rosemount Kindergarten)

One article I wrote was removed for being “promotional”.

I do not agree, however I have a positive view of the company I wrote the article about and perhaps some found it to be too cheerful. I would be willing to change the article, to make less “promotional” however it was removed without giving me a chance.

If you read other articles of private schools in Singapore they are all written in a similar way, it is hard to describe a high quality school accurately without it at the same time sounding promotional. That being said I will take the Briticism to heart and change the content so that it is more balanced.

I wrote the article because I used to be employed at the school. Friends and families back home would search for it, and complained that there is little information of the school online. I thought I would change that I and therefore wrote an article describing the school, it's history and what it offers.

It is one of the oldest private schools/kindergartens in Singapore, and it makes sense that there is an article on it. I was sad to see it has been removed. The only thing I can think of is that one of it’s competitors marketing team have reported it. A lot of new schools has been opening in Singapore in later years and some have a rather aggressive online marketing strategy as a way to push into the market. It is sad to see that they get priority on Wikipedia over a small company that does not have a marketing team.

The article was legitimate. I was not paid to write it and I no longer work for the company. I did it because I love the school and I could not believe that there was not already a Wikipedia article on it!

I am no expert user of Wikipedia, I do not know how to retrieve my old draft. Can you please send it to me so that I can make some changes and put it back up?

Freefall (webcomic) (second request for undeletion)

The initial request for undeletion was submitted on October 3. The ensuing discussion can be seen here. Essentially, it was suggested I discuss this with the admin who initiated the original deletion of the article in question. I posted the request to his page, and this request can be seen here. There has been no response in over three weeks, which I am not criticizing; we all have our own reasons for not keeping up with Wikipedia. Nonetheless, I feel this is sufficient time to move forward and request that this process be forwarded to the next stage, bypassing Stifle's authorization and opening an actual discussion on undeleting the Wikipedia article Freefall (webcomic). I'm placing this back into contention for undeletion one more time, using this as my justification:

Then you should ask the deleting administrator, user FreeRangeFrog (talk), for permission to re-post it; if he does not agree, you can go to WP:Deletion review.
When you re-write, try to think of yourself not as writing for the forum, but as writing for Wikipedia about the forum, from outside, including only the things a general encyclopedia reader might wish to know, and leaving detail (such as long lists of members of the advisory board and "personalities who participated" and papers published by people associated with the forum) for the Forum's own website, where anyone who wants the detail can access it. Beware, too of "peacock terms" (a special opportunity.. ambitious proposals.. these exclusive studies... ) and generally of seeming to want to "sell" the Forum. Not done For now. This has been abandoned and deleted twice already, and the likelihood that the subjects are notable to merit inclusion in the encyclopedia is extremely low, given the sources in the article, which are self-generated. So roughly one full year of abandonment, plus doubtful notability. Unless you can provide one or two reliable sources that prove they are minimally notable, I'm inclined to not restore it at this time. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 00:02, 30 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
