Identifying reverts in Persian Wikipedia

Hi Amir,

I'm finally getting around to setting up SuggestBot on Persian Wikipedia. One of the issues I'm struggling with is identifying reverts by matching edit comments in Persian. It's not too complicated to figure out in a Left-to-Right language since I know some of the patterns to look for, but Persian being R-to-L have left me stumped. Would you be able to help me out?

As an example, for Portuguese Wikipedia I was able to identify four patterns and put them into a regular expression (here from our Python code):

Hopefully that gives you an idea of what I'm looking for. Is something like that possible in Persian as well?

I've figured out how to identify lists and dates and improved our detection of redirects in our import process, so two of our three recommendation engines now support Persian. Will also get around to setting up documentation and such as well, I'll actually do that next.

(As a side note: long term I'd of course like to use checksums instead of regexps to match reverts, but there are various other things I'd like to focus on first, for instance getting this thing up and running :) Regards, Nettrom (talk) 20:55, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Task categories for SuggestBot in Persian

Hi again,

I've restarted my efforts to get SuggestBot running in Persian Wikipedia. Currently I'm struggling with figuring out what maintenance categories are available, SuggestBot grabs articles from those to make sure it only suggests articles that need improvement. I've created a table of those I've found with some more information and written it up on User talk:SuggestBot/Persian task categories, and there's now also a short notice on fa:بحث کاربر:SuggestBot. Could you help spread the word on Persian Wikipedia about this? Would be great to get some Persian users' feedback on what types of articles SuggestBot can be most helpful pointing too. Dexbot code

I was wondering if I could steal the code you use to generate the list of errors for Dexbot. I'm thinking of adding it to Checkwiki and generating a list for all supported languages. Your signature

Hi again, your signature is causing problems rendering the text around it, due to having bidirectional text on the same line. This is present in multiple modern browsers. You may notice that the timestamp becomes corrupted around your signature. This bugged me enough to try to find a fix instead of just asking you to change it. I think I've got something that will work, please see: User:Xaosflux/Sandbox (you will have to look at it in Edit mode to get the suggested code to change in your signature). I don't read Farsi (I think it's Farsi?) but I think this will work. It should also work on other mediawiki sites that have a default left to right language. There is an easier way todo it. I just have to remember how. I think it was just one Unicode character. Meno25 or Magioladitis, do you remember what it was?
FYI... In signatures and on articles, you shouldn't use <b> per WP:Deviations. Also, <font> is no longer part of HTML. Should use <span> instead. Font still works on Wikipedia and there is a yearly debate on formally getting rid of it or formally telling people don't use it. I tried multiple "fixes" using span to correct this, but had the best luck with using character entities only. The meta page m:RTL seems in need of much updating, but does call out "simply keep RTL and LTR separated by line breaks" (obviously inappropriate for a signature). This solution using character entities only was to request RTL rendering be disabled, write the RTL text backwards, then resume normal rendering. By using character entities it also avoided disrupting anyone else editing the page around that section for any reason. I like to use another language as link to my talk page (e.g. link to my talk page in fa.wp has been Greek translation of talk, Συζήτηση, for more than five years, check my talk page and even Greek is LTR and Persian is RTL it didn't cause any reading issues) So I just changed it to Dutch translation of talk (overleg). Dexbot, "frr" good article

Hi, thanks for migrating all those GA/FA entries to wikidata! For atom, Dexbot missed the frr.wikipedia "good article" and (probably as result) did not remove the template for it in the German wikipedia. I noticed many "To confirm this account […]" mails in the Tools mail queue from tools.wikitest-rtl to various addresses, probably belonging to spammers. That made me take a look at http://tools.wmflabs.org/wikitest-rtl/w/index.php?title=Main_Page which after a long load time showed indeed spam. So I disabled the webservice for this tool with webservice stop. So, if I understand this correctly: editors or bots believe that maybe those dead links that I replaced were always dead, and that maybe I replaced them with links to one or more of my own websites? For all but one diff it's pretty clear this is not the case. For example, for oost-watergraafsmeer.nl and rollingstone.com and vgmobile.com, all I did was add archive.org tags, nraila.org remained the same website but a different page, tllts.org has its mp3 archives at tlltsarchive.org. We just realized that people are replacing dead links with promotional websites. A abuse filter is created several days ago to catch the spammers but we made a report of ALL {{dead link}} removal to inspect carefully. So your constructive edits is included in the list.
