June 4

This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on June 4, 2015.

Debut album

There are no entries called "debut album" on the dab page this redirect is pointing to. There are albums called "debut", but they are already served by the redirect "debut (album)". As a result, this redirect is creating the false expectation that such an article exists. Midas02 (talk) 00:44, 5 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

North america 1

I'm not seeing this as a plausible search term. North America is +1 in the North American Numbering Plan, could it be worth a retarget? Tavix | Talk  23:52, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

List of Serbs of Užice

Deletion, proper redirect is List of people from Užice. Annoyingly coming up when searching for "List of Serbs" (which lists ethnic Serbs of the former Yugoslav republics). Zoupan 19:38, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So? Are we talking about ethicity or just Serbia as it stands today? Si Trew (talk) 21:56, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm confused, @Zoupan:. Despite what you say, do you want it deleted or retargeted to List of people from Užice? A retarget would seem to me more sensible. Si Trew (talk) 21:55, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Batiscan (homonymy)

This is a bit of a test of WP:FORRED. This certainly seems like an unlikely search term, since we don't use anything but (disambiguation) in titles to mark disambiguation pages. French Wikipedia uses (homonymie). We certainly shouldn't have (homonymie) redirect to most disambiguation pages. But since all uses of "Batiscan" seem to be related to Francophone Canada, is this appropriate? BDD (talk) 16:22, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Thanks, @Boleyn:. We have seven incoming links to this, which we'll need to sort out, but since they go to the redirect to the DAB, they weren't really serving the purpose anyway. I'm hesitant to fix them up while a discussion is open, and you are probably better to do it. It's mostly francophone places in Québec. 19:51, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
White Rabbit says "O! My ears and whiskers!" I think BDD's test case (law) has been tested to distruction :) Si Trew (talk) 22:29, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wang Zongyao

Delete. The Pinyin system of transcription isn't used in Hong Kong nor for Hongkongers. The redirect under this name is irrelevant to the subject of this entry. 12:18, 27 May 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2404:c800:9003:8::13 (talkcontribs) Sockpuppet, see SPI. -Zanhe (talk) 20:56, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, BDD (talk) 14:59, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete as WP:RFD#D2 confusion. Thanks to 58.176, and 24ö4:c8000, but this is English Wikipedia. Transliteration is hard, and since this causes genuine confusion even with (I assume) Hong Kongers who speak Chinese and English, it is confusing for we that don't. Si Trew (talk) 19:58, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Pinyin has been the ISO standard for transcribing Chinese into English since 1982, there's nothing confusing about it. See my comment below. -Zanhe (talk) 21:11, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Deryck, being ambiguous is not a valid reason to delete, but only a reason to disambiguate. -Zanhe (talk) 20:51, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy Keep, disambiguate, and block IP - the IP proposer is a confirmed sockpuppet of the banned User:Instantnood, see investigation page, but has somehow evaded blocking. He's made five previous disruptive attempts to delete the redirect, which have been denied by multiple administrators, see page history. Now he's sneakily initiating an RFD without putting a required notice on the page (which is why I did not find out about this discussion until now). His reasoning is also invalid. Pinyin is the ISO standard for transliterating Chinese names in general, widely used by scholars. For example, Paul Fonoroff, probably the best known Hong Kong film historian, spells all Hong Kong names in pinyin, see A Brief History of Hong Kong Cinema. See discussion on Talk:Gregory Wong. -Zanhe (talk) 20:49, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Worst Headphones Ever

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was speedy delete per G10. I wouldn't normally do this sort of thing, but it's a very new redirect. And this makes the second time in several days that it's been speedily deleted. --BDD (talk) 14:06, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not an appropriate redirect. — This, that and the other (talk) 13:45, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Delete, WP:RNEUTRAL. You should try Maplin Electronics, if you like something to sound like an bluebottle in a tin can. Si Trew (talk) 14:01, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm sorry about this, but I attempted to comment and User:BDD already speedily closed it. The advice at RfD is they are "generally open for about seven days": not seven minutes. I am sorry to disagree with BDD, who I respect immensely, but I had three {{edit conflict}}s with BDD trying to speedily close when I was trying to comment. Patently, if others are not allowed to comment, that is a bit sharpish to close it that way. I agree that it is not WP:RNEUTRAL, and attempted to say so, but the edit conflicts got in the way. I don't mind it is deleted, but I think it was a bit rash to do so. Nuff said, let's all get on with making Wikipedia better. Si Trew (talk) 14:13, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Strange. Your comment is still there, you just put it above an earlier one. See? I've noticed a lag in the servers that past couple of days, where I've frequently made updates that then don't show until I refresh. I'll restore your comment here—this may be something to look out for or report. --BDD (talk) 14:15, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I kinda didn't, that must have been the {{ec}}. I was linking bluebottle and tin can, but didn't want to modify it (the strict instructions at the RFD bottom'}}. No hard feelings, it should be deleted and no problem with that, but it made a bit of a muck of what I was trying to write. So what, we get there and that is the important thing. Si Trew (talk) 14:19, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I seem to appear twice in the closing comments. Do you want to kinda edit the close? I shan't object. It's just a muck with the edit conflicts: I'd take the first one out and leave the second. Si Trew (talk) 14:22, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I've noticed that too: not so much on server lag but on that when I refresh a page I don't always get the refreshed page, especially after an edit (and as you know I tend to bit-by-bit translate from French etc) it used automatically to purge to give you the refreshed page, and now it doesn't. I can't put my finger on it but something has changed in the Wikimedia software, that it doesn't do that. I was assuming it was just my ISP's cache, with the HTTP Time To Live tag or whatever it is, (bollox, we don't even have Time To Live. now I will have to make that one: We do have hop (networking) which might do) but I think it comes from the horse's mouth and not from the cacheing along the way. Si Trew (talk) 14:25, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Blackers

I've never heard of it, but I am southern English. Strangely, it would seem perfectly good Cockney slang, but not Northern slang. Google lists primarly (and secondarily and teriarwhateverily and quaternily) Blacker's Bakeshop, presumably paid for doing so.
Comment. The only thing I can think of as anywhere near a ref is that it is used in Billy Bragg's song (I forget the name of the song) "When the lackeys send the blackers out to cheat us". Fallen in love with a little time bomb I think. But Bragg is a southerner too. Si Trew (talk) 16:39, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Is it possible to take it to Blinkers (UK. Eng) or Blinders (Am. Eng). or is that just making more trouble? Si Trew (talk) 16:39, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Loaded term, WP:RNEUTRAL, and WP:RFD#D8 "novel or very obscure synonym for an article name" (both created on 28 March 2015 by User:Oloperdf, their only contributuons). "-stan" in English derogatary parole is for a tinpot dictatorship (which we don't have either, not even tinpot or tin pot), sadly, but that is perhaps more WP:DICDEF). With the price of tin being what it is, it would be a wealthy dictatorship. Unfortunately all my money is tied up in cash. Si Trew (talk) 11:18, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Well I have opened a can of worms again. This user, on 28 March, has created stacks of redirects on that date (and nothing else before or since):

  • information Administrator note According to the block log, this was a WP:CHECKUSER block, so the redirects can all be deleted via CSD G5. Unfortunately mass delete only works on fairly recent creations so these have to be done one at a time. I'm working my way through it, but I may have to go to work any minute now, so if anyone wants to tag for speedy deletion go right ahead. Beeblebrox (talk) 16:08, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

S.A.

Comment. Thanks to 70.51, I've commented on Talk:S.A. (corporation) and I dislike splitting discussions but we have to start somewhere. (It's a move request there, but not to a title I like: corporations under civil law) Leaving that aside, this R goes to S.A., a DAB page, where it is not mentioned: Of course the obvious quick fix is to add it at that DAB, but considering the malarkey we have with S.p.A. et al, I think it is better to list here. We could possibly merge into that discussion, I dunno. Si Trew (talk) 09:10, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My proposed move would be to S.A.S.A. (corporation). This is, if you'll excuse my French, all arse about face, put the article at S.A., the redirects will follow. I do appreciate there are variations in many other Latinate languages, but all are "S.A." in that way, I realise this is not specific to France or French, but I think searching for "S.A." if you see it on a packet (or SA) and wonder what it means, that would be the obvious place to go. There is no need to disambiguate it with "(corporation)" when S.A. is going spare. (as indeed am I). Si Trew (talk) 09:16, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. The article itself is simply a list article of what it is called in various countries/languages. WP:NOTDIC, and not a translation dictionary. In the article, Egypt and Arabic are duplicated, and both have a miscellaneous parenthesis in them – presumably cut and paste. (I guess with Egypt, it is from the time when the spiteful, cowardly French colonized Upper Egypt and the brave, courageous British brought education, sanitation, roads, etc. etc. to Lower Egypt)Don't mention the war!. It's not a designation one commonly sees in alphabets other than latin, or at least was not common when I lived in Cairo; but my Arabic is a bit rusty. Si Trew (talk) 09:50, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Historical populations of Istanbul

This template should have been deleted and not redirected, if people transcluded this, it will end up transcluding the entire article. - TheChampionMan1234 03:55, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, the target has population in its infobox but no historical population, which I would expect of an article of this importance. And why did Constantinople get the works? (Its nobody's business but the Turks'). Sings: it's Istanbul it was Constantinople... Si Trew (talk) 13:16, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Independent sheikhdom under British protectorate

Implausible search term, most sources that mention this term also mentions what it means. - TheChampionMan1234 03:54, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Federal Republic of Iraq

Invented name, this was never the official name of a regime. - TheChampionMan1234 03:51, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately not. The nearest I find is Arab Federation (of Iraq and Jordan), but that's no good, I think. The model, I think, for the article, would be the United Arab Republic of Syria and Egypt (1958–1961), which I remember it was listed thus in my Guinness Book of Records of 1966 and 1968, given to me and me bro by my grandfather, and ten years out of date even then! But beautifully printed. (He was a great lover of Pears Cyclopaedia, too.) I might have a stab at making a draft, then, but I can see it being rather controversial. I know what you mean by "RfD zen" (although I deliberately plant dead pheasants on my fence so the feng shui can't get in, and saves me on cat food, too. And replacing mattresses). But on that kinda line, since it exists, and nobody seems to want to delete it, what shall we do with it? I am totally fine for you to reject the draft, that is why it is a draft and I wasn't WP:BOLD and just replaced it, but any other suggestions? WP:NOTPERFECT, WP:NOTFINISHED, but that seems better than what we have currently. (Oh by the way I broke a nail when someone wrote "presently" the other day, "Presently" means soon, not now. It is not a synonym for currently. See Fowler. But I am fighting a losing battle there, I know.) Si Trew (talk) 17:04, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be inclined to either say delete or keep as {{R from incorrect name}}, leaning the former because it's incredibly difficult to imagine a user searching for this term but not thinking to just search "Iraq". --BDD (talk) 17:05, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We are between Iraq and a hard place. (Isiah 43). Si Trew (talk) 18:09, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
