Season summary

On 11 August 2021, Chelsea started off the season by winning the UEFA Super Cup. It was the second time that Chelsea had won the trophy, the first win being in 1998, and the third time that the club was involved in a penalty shoot-out in the competition.[2] The following day, Chelsea announced that Romelu Lukaku had re-signed for the club, seven years after leaving, for a reported club record fee of £97.5 million.[3][4]
