– As insulting as it may seem towards one legend of the game, another legend of the game is now universally known as "Ronaldo" and will dominate the name for years to come. It seems only right that the dab page should be "Ronaldo" so that a choice can be made. Unreal7 (talk) 15:19, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No, just no. Unreal7 (talk) 21:51, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, just yes, see stats below. Davey2010 (talk · contribs) sorry did you not mean to support? You say below 98% are looking for the Portuguese footballer, so why oppose moving the Brazilian? In ictu oculi (talk) 13:10, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I meant there's absolute zero chance of Cristiano being moved as well. Unreal7 (talk) 23:06, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

*Oppose - "Ronaldo" brings up 8,940,000 results and most if not all are for Cristiano, I'd say a good 98% of people in the would be looking for the Cristiano article so at this present time I see no reason to move, –Davey2010Talk 03:10, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. One might look to the Portuguese Wikipedia for the definitive answer to this question, they have him at Ronaldo Nazário (pt:Ronaldo Nazário). We have redirects from Ronaldo Názario and Ronaldo Nazario. Generally natural disambiguation by a more complete name should be preferred, I think. – wbm1058 (talk) 14:49, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: Christiano Ronaldo has 575,422 views while Ronaldo only has 110,533 views. Christiano Ronaldo is commonly referred to as just 'Ronaldo' so safe to assume there is no clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for just the term 'Ronaldo'. Ebonelm (talk) 19:33, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. Just to be clear, Cristiano Ronaldo is well known by his full name and not just his surname. The Brazilian is only ever referred to as just Ronaldo. There is a clear distinction. Yes when people say Ronaldo (especially people who have known the name post 2003) they will mostly think of the Portuguese player, but like with Lionel Messi (as opposed to just Messi), David Beckham (as opposed to just Beckham) they will also know his full name Cristiano Ronaldo which is frequently stated. On a side note, It's just fate that the original was the biggest name in the world at a time when there wasn't any Internet (fully established anyway) or social media, as there is no question he would have been as high a profile a figure (if not higher given his World Cup performances) as Cristiano. – RichardHarris22 (talk) 00:45, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support This is an unusual case. Cristiano Ronaldo is so famous, and so widely referred to as "Ronaldo", that there is not a truly primary topic for Ronaldo. Therefore the DAB page should reside there.--MrStoofer (talk) 10:05, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support but keep Cristiano Ronaldo at current title. No WP:PTOPIC for "Ronaldo", but continue using WP:NATURALDIS for Cristiano. SSTflyer 10:38, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Il Fenômeno" is incorrectly written. In Brazilian Portuguese it is written: "O Fenômeno". "Il" is an italian word, while "Fenômeno" is a Brazilian Portuguese word.

As for reliable sources, just ask any Brazilian or Portuguese... 85.139.78.142 (talk) 21:43, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The text says that Ronaldo led Cruzeiro to the Brazilian Cup title in 1993. That is not true. He did not play a single match in that tournament. Brazilian Cup was played in the first semester, he became a regular player in the second one. You can see the line ups for the final in the link: https://fichadojogo.wordpress.com/1993/06/03/copa-do-brasil-de-1993/ 187.115.73.146 (talk) 17:37, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Honours

This section shows indistinct and convoluted info. It takes a long hard look to realize some of the honours are actually 2nd and 3rd place finishes. Although I agree a runner up finnish or a bronze medal are achievements, the honours display is supposed to clearly show actual career honours achieved. In this case, bracketed numbers of wins are erroneously displayed, for eg; (1) runner up or, (1) 3rd place. In competition one does not win a second place, but rather, one achieves a second place or a bronze medal finish. There's only one winner. Therefore, even though I believe Ronaldo to have been one of the best footballers of any generation in the World, I ask for a protected revision to be done on the way the display is portrayed. This is a subjective opinion. I was able to read it instantly but again it’s subjective. FluffSquad (talk) 01:44, 22 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Photo of Ronaldo

Hi Guys ! Just undertaking some research about the best football players of all time and ended up here. In my opinion he deserves a better photo. That's all. I cannot do this like I have not enough admin rights, afaik.

edit nickname

Hi, i just want to suggest a change on the english page. The Ronaldo nickname was “O’ Fenomeno” and not “El Fenomeno”. He was first named Phenomenon in Brazil when he was young and so the article should report the Portuguese nickname and not the Spanish one. if you search on googlw image you can find a graffiti on a training camp wall in Rio de Janeiro reporting the sentence: “Aqui nasceu O’fenomeno“.

thanks

There are thousands of links that show that his nickname was Portuguese, not Spanish, so its definetely O Fenômeno, in Brazilian Portuguese.Mistico Dois (talk) 20:28, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To let editors know that the sub-page List of international goals scored by Ronaldo is up for AfD. Govvy (talk) 17:26, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

stats

just realized the stats for his PSV period don't add up - according to the text, he scored 54 goals in 58 games, but the box lists only 12 goals in 46 apps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:CD:7717:7A00:E5F7:4FB4:20DB:4875 (talk) 20:14, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

World Record Transfer Fee

The article states that he was the second player to twice transfer for a world record fee. He was in fact the third after David Jack and Diego Maradona. Can this be updated.2800:A4:16FC:A000:C021:10D5:9685:7717 (talk) 02:55, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tha claim is supported by this article: https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2016/sep/17/ronaldo-40-birthday-brazil-greatest-ever-striker Could you supply one or more reliable sources backing your claim? Robby.is.on (talk) 09:10, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously wikipedia is not a reliable source, but it is on both his wikipedia page and the world transfer fee page. There are links to article on both pages. Also Alf Common is also a possibility depending on how player values are added to money plus player transfers. 2800:A4:17BB:FC00:C021:10D5:9685:7717 (talk) 16:14, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
his wikipedia page Whose? the world transfer fee page Do you mean List of most expensive association football transfers? It has the sentence "After Alf Common and David Jack, the third player to twice be transferred for world record fees is Diego Maradona" and sources it to two references. One of the two is https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/23560273 which states "Diego Maradona is the only player to have broken the world transfer record twice" and "The next two world records involved Brazil internationals. Striker Ronaldo (right) moved for £19.5m from Spanish club Barcelona to Italian team Inter Milan in 1997 before winger Denilson (left) signed for Spain's Real Betis from Sao Paulo of Brazil for £21.5m in 1998." so it would appear it supports the claim that was Ronaldo was the second player to twice transfer for a world record fee. Robby.is.on (talk) 18:07, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
https://www.arsenal.com/historic/players/alf-common Arsenal state that Common was twice the record transfer fee. I think it is just an issue to do with the ages of the transfers. 2800:A4:17BB:FC00:C021:10D5:9685:7717 (talk) 19:27, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
