Lebanese pterosaur article

Hi, inspired by your efforts in improving articles about Lebanese history, I'm in the process of expanding the article Mimodactylus, probably the most famous fossil from Lebanon, for GAN and FAC. I know little about the palaeontology of my fatherland, so it's a way to learn more, but since I also don't read Arabic, I wondered if you know of any news sources or similar about the discovery that could be used? In any case, good luck with your current FAC (Sarcophagus of Eshmunazar II), while I usually don't review articles I already promoted at GAN, I may have a look if it stalls. But seems it got a very good response so far. Perhaps ping and ask if the reviewer has more to add for the article to be supported? FunkMonk (talk) 04:17, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What a beautiful piece! I never knew of that fossil thanks for starting the article. I will need some time to review it and once I make my modifications I will let you know so that we can enlist the help of a SME. I am sure this can be pushed to FA with proper attention to detail. I am not in a rush to promote the sarcophagus article. I have I believe four GA nominations and two DYKs at least pending. They will be reviewed eventually. el.ziade (talkallam) 09:00, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nice, I'm still in the process of expanding the article, so I can give you a ping once it's done if you want to have a look. And cool, didn't know you had GANs up at the moment, I'll see if I can take one of them up. FunkMonk (talk) 11:34, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The article is now at GAN, since I created the article, I'm thinking of nominating it for the WP:four award, but I need a DYK hook, feel free to suggest one and to join me in the nomination. FunkMonk (talk) 13:19, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@FunkMonk certainly ! I’m at a music festival and will do that tomorrow buddy el.ziade (talkallam) 14:16, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@FunkMonk What do you think of these?
  • Did you know that Mimodactylus, a pterosaur genus from the Late Cretaceous, was discovered in Lebanon and its well-preserved specimen is now exhibited at the Mim Museum in Beirut.
  • Did you know that Mimodactylus is the first complete pterosaur specimen found in the Afro-Arabian continent and provides insight into ancient island ecosystems?
  • Did you know that the pterosaur Mimodactylus likely had unique feeding habits, possibly foraging for decapod crustaceans on water surfaces, unlike other pterosaurs?
  • Did you know that Mimodactylus had a distinctive rectangular crest on its humerus, and its long wings and relatively small body size contributed to its stable flight pattern?
  • Did you know that the teeth of Mimodactylus, with their specialized features, indicate a diet of crustaceans, expanding the understanding of pterosaur feeding strategies?
  • Did you know that the discovery of Mimodactylus provides valuable insights into the ancient coastal environment of Lebanon during the Late Cretaceous, with evidence of marine and terrestrial organisms?
  • Did you know that the pterosaur Mimodactylus and its unique characteristics challenge previous assumptions about the behavior and ecological roles of these prehistoric creatures?
  • Did you know that the fossilized remains of Mimodactylus were split in two during discovery, but thanks to careful preparation, it became the centerpiece of the fossil vertebrate collection at the Mim Museum?
el.ziade (talkallam) 08:13, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nice, I also have "that Mimodactylus is the first complete pterosaur known from the Afro Arabian continent", problem is that most people probably don't know what that is... Could maybe also say "first complete pterosaur from the Middle East." Either way, that it's the first complete specimen from this area seems to be the most important aspect of it, but it's hard to phrase. FunkMonk (talk) 11:32, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@FunkMonk yeah, but I’d rather readers be curious than changing it to Middle East because in this specific instance the terms are not interchangeable. This is exciting! I strongly suggest you take it ti FA. I will help you with the work when the reviews come. On a similar note, my FA submission is stalling because I haven’t had any feedback and it might be closed if I don’t get any within 3-4 days. I’ll ping a few people who volunteered for earlier submissions. el.ziade (talkallam) 11:37, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're probably right, and you also seem to have much more DYK experience than me. And yeah, I'll take it to FAC right after GAN is over. Seems your FAC us getting off the ground now, by the way! FunkMonk (talk) 07:48, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@FunkMonk Thank you for pitching in and yes! Quite a few editors are taking action. It’s exciting and dreadful 😂 el.ziade (talkallam) 09:50, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was just thinking that we should nominate one of these articles for Today's Featured Article on Lebanon's independence day on November 22 (if we can get one of them done in time)? FunkMonk (talk) 10:14, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now FAC nominated, next step would be DYK. FunkMonk (talk) 03:12, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And now at DYK[1], added you as nominator. FunkMonk (talk) 14:18, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The article Phoenician sanctuary of Kharayeb you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Phoenician sanctuary of Kharayeb for comments about the article, and Talk:Phoenician sanctuary of Kharayeb/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. DYK for Favissa

On 23 August 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Favissa, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that favissae were underground pits dedicated to the disposal of votive offerings that were no longer in use? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Favissa. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Favissa), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Today's story is about a great pianist with an unusual career, taking off when he was 50. Perfect match: today is the wedding anniversary of Clara and Robert Schumann, but I was too late with our gift. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:48, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Congratulations, Elias Ziade! The article you nominated, Sarcophagus of Eshmunazar II, has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best articles on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured article. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Gog the Mild (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:05, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

TFA

Hi Elias. I am planning on running Sarcophagus of Eshmunazar II as the TFA on 20 November and wondered if you fancied having a go at the blurb? Gog the Mild (talk) 21:59, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On this note, I had earlier suggested to run this or another one of Elias' Lebanon related FAs on November 22, the Independence day of Lebanon. Would be a bit of a missed opportunity if it ran only two days earlier, I'd think! FunkMonk (talk) 22:12, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't realise that. I see your point but I was going to run Assassination of John F. Kennedy on the 22nd. Umm.
Oh, that's quite some competition... FunkMonk (talk) 22:28, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was also going to run Rodrigues night heron on the 6th. Any issues with that? And it will need a blurb . Gog the Mild (talk) 22:25, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No issues with that, and no upcoming Rodriguan independence day... FunkMonk (talk) 22:28, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Phew! You ok with having a go at a draft blurb? Gog the Mild (talk) 22:32, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If I get the time, will probably just be a shortened version of the intro if I do it, as usual. FunkMonk (talk) 22:34, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is just what I do, and I've written over 400 of the things. Thanks, appreciated. Gog the Mild (talk) 23:59, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@FunkMonk @Gog the Mild I apologize, again, for not being as available as I should. I had not thought of any particular time for TFA. November 22 sounds nice! But if there are other articles with higher priority, I totally understand. el.ziade (talkallam) 17:56, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No need to apologise, we have more than eight weeks to get this sorted. Unfortunately (IMO) the Sarcophagus article has quite a weak link with Lebanese Independence day, while the only day it makes sense to TFA the JFK one is on the 22nd. I will move Sarcophagus to the 21st, so at least the start of the day Lebanon time will have it as a TFA. Are you ok to have a go at a draft blurb? Gog the Mild (talk) 15:54, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
