How about...

[edit]

... adding a short paragraph [probably after Videos], which I don't know how do call, about her "ethnicity", the aspects that are "Pilipino" in her videos (like her accent) and her relation with it? Wouldn't know what to write though :) -- Outspan [talk · contribs] 23:20, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's a great idea. The Asian Journal article goes into her family's history a bit, as well as into her experience as a Filipino-American; and the Sentinel talks about her reception from the Filipino-American community. But I wouldn't be sure what to call it, either. "Filipino heritage"? Ichormosquito 03:45, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

...Changing the repeated use of of "Gambito" to "Christine". A name instead of a label. -AChrispy (talk) 19:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bio/married

[edit]

I heard that Christine is married -- and there's the wedding ring, but I've seen no details about this. She is a legit celebrity, so it seems that her marriage is newsworthy. However, I do not have these details -- I was hoping to read it here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.198.205.158 (talk) 03:30, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A "celebrity" is not one who is known only in a particular web site. That word - 'celebrity' should be used cautiously rather than haphazzardly. Youtube does not make one a celebrity regardless of the number of subscribers. If you mention this woman to anybody who doesn't waste their time on any particular web site, they wouldn't have the slightest idea who you are referring to. There are thousands of "celebrities" on youtube...that word could be used should the mainstream in the real world choose to twist it's definition. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.116.219.74 (talk) 04:30, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Verifiability over truth. If the news media calls her a celebrity, who are we to say otherwise? Ichormosquito 12:32, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The mainstream media makes no mention of her. There are fringe papers in public directed at a small minority of people but to brand them "THE media" is a considerable stretch. I've also been mentioned more than once in the media for my contribution to my community but by and large the mainstream media including Fox News, CNN & CBS would have to introduce me and my background so the folks can understand what I'm about. Oprah Winfrey's, Paris Hilton's, Tom Cruise & company don't need an introduction - hence; they are indeed celebrities. I'd appreciate it if people here would stop using Wikipedia as some cheap publicity campaign to promote oneself. But I suppose I can create my own article here and claim to be a celebrity in my own right.

Sorry, whoever denies that Gambito is a celeb needs to get a clue. You don't have to be Oprah Winfrey or Tom Cruise to be a celebrity. Perhaps she's B-list or C-list but she's still a celebrity. (I am not connected to her in any way.) There is an entire demographic out there that is watching online video instead of more traditional media. I would wager that a good percentage of people aged 14 to 25 in the U.S. know who Happy Slip is. PS: And I hate to break it to you but lonelygirl15, Esmee Denters, Tay Zonday, etc., are all celebrities also. Just because Jay Leno or some cable news host needs to explain to Baby Boomers who somebody is doesn't mean that person is not a celebrity. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.197.234.253 (talk) 05:41, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I love you. Will you marry me? Or at least get a Wikipedia user name? Ichormosquito 11:48, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To the person stamping his feet insisting she's a celebrity; There's no such thing as A, B, C, D, E-lists...you either are or aren't. In regards to Lonelygirl115 and company, they are "news items" but there's a distinction here that you apparently are not getting. Nobody can blanket the internet with there name and billboard there name across town and be inducted in the "celebrity" club. My real estate agent is well known in Vancouver so does that make him a celebrity? If not, is it because he's not entertaining people? The grounds from you are arguing from is in the realm of splitting hairs and I believe I'll lose mine trying to argue with somebody as "slippery" as you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.116.219.74 (talk) 05:07, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the word "celebrity" means: A state of being celebrated, Fame[1]. Christine Gambito is "celebrated". She has fans, and is well known in circles. It's not as if she's only known to those in her life personally, she is known by hundreds of thousands of people that she, herself, doesn't know. Technically speaking, she does qualify as a "celebrity", whether or not she qualifies to your own personal view of what a celebrity is. Besides, you are off topic, the question was about whether or not she was married. On that matter, if she is, I don't think there should be a whole section on it. Maybe there could be a small snippet? (i.e: She lives in _ with her husband, and continues to broadcast videos to the world) Just a suggestion. 24.6.137.33 (talk) 18:22, 28 November 2009 (UTC) Melzz[reply]

Move?

[edit]

Can this be moved to HappySlip? No one really knows her real name (or cares) like Madonna, or Cher. Please! Calicore (talk) 18:58, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

^^^^ Her name is Christine Gambito. Few people care, you are correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.116.29.187 (talk) 04:27, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It used to be at HappySlip but was moved as a result of its deletion discussion. ~EnviroboyTalkContribs - 05:43, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth

[edit]

What is her date of birth?--NAHID 09:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article currently states her DOB as August 31, 1978. It cites a video she posted on August 28, 2009 in which she states her birthday is in August but doesn't not give the exact date. Her Facebook page lists her birthday as August 20 but does not give a year.Mustang6172 (talk) 22:43, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article has an over emphasis on self published references WP:SOURCES. Is this really necessary? Please discuss. Hetelllies (talk) 15:22, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs better sources..

[edit]

You can help by finding reliable sources for this article WP:RS. Please help. Hetelllies (talk) 23:33, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I restored three reliable sources editors had blithely deleted over the past few months. The article has no need for a notability tag. Ichormosquito (talk) 06:44, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank You. The reverted references are credible. However there are still material I would like to challenge.Hetelllies (talk) 22:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Updating sources

[edit]

Could you clarify as to what resulting in the second place means? A check on reference shows youtube awards 2007. However, this article specifically stated the 2006 YouTube Awards. Please help by updating this source. Hetelllies (talk) 22:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Asia Sentinel, one of the reverted source does names her as the second Best Comedy at the 2006 YouTube video awards. her video blog, or vlog, HappySlip.com, garnered enough votes to be named second Best Comedy at the 2006 YouTube video awards.

Hetelllies (talk) 22:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On January 25, 2008, Gambito was appointed ambassador for Philippine tourism by the Department of Tourism. Please update the link as to this statement. I am as of current unable to verify the reference.Hetelllies (talk) 22:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As for this statement,At her personal site, she explains that the phrase is not only a funny phrase from the past, but it also reflects what she would like people to feel when they watch her videos, hoping they will “slip into happiness” while watching., it is a quote from her personal website. I do not see how this quote is of encylopedic importance. WP:SPSHetelllies (talk) 22:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As for the nickname section, I suggest a removal of the quote and merging of her nickname somewhere else.Hetelllies (talk) 22:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Due to the positive response she received from the YouTube community Please clarify this statement. It needs a source. WP:NOR If it is a statement by Gambito, it should also have an according to her.

Recently, Gambito has been collaborating with fellow YouTube comedian Kevin Wu, a.k.a. kevjumba, and has made five videos with him WP:NOR

The video section is nice but I would like to see more vertifiable third party sources. Thanks for your effort.Hetelllies (talk) 22:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide reference for this...

[edit]

Gambito is married but she does not talk about or refer to her husband or her son in her videos, specifically at the former's request.

This statement requires proper reference, please help by finding one.Hetelllies (talk) 15:08, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
