Too aggressive?
I noticed an instance of Sinebot autosigning someone's edit within 1 minute of it being posted. The user, realizing they had forgotten to sign, went back and tried to sign their post, but it got mixed up with SineBot's HTML comments, breaking the comments and thus hiding all subsequent content on the page for 2 days (until someone figured out what was wrong). Does Sinebot really need to be that aggressive? Couldn't it at least wait more than 1 minute? Kaldari (talk) 19:00, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Automatical dating of comments
This is not a mistake of a bot but... I cannot to not comment it.
I am not using for my signature that wiki-tag, I am writting my signature by myslef manualy and it was funny to se my signature (including date and time) and then added notice when it was posted. It seems very funny.

Hi, this guy called Tribal44 is bringing very unreliable sources to Whitney Houston's page in order to prove she's a mezzo-soprano. First, he brings the site made by an unknown guy called Amid Mahdi [1], then he brings another site made from an old Wikipedia page, which is unallowed [2] (Compare that to this: [3]). I have warned him several times on his talk page, but he won't listen and keeps bringign back these unreliable sources. Please issue him a warning or block him. Thank you very much. The umpteen number of articles on anti-Christian violence in India
There is a question of garnering donations from America and Europe with sob stories of anti-Christian violence, involved in the large number of articles being posted on anti-Christian violence in India, with seperate articles for each every incident for whatever reason on anyone bearing a seemingly Christian name. This is good for India also because it brings in foreign direct investment. I have therefore, decided not to induce any more NPOV in this and similar articles because they are only belly-filling articles; and as such deserve sympathy. Code?
Where is the code for this bot? Many of these bot pages have no links to the codes. travb (talk) 19:15, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- This is just wrong:
- User:SineBot#Nerdy_details: "The source code is not public at this point."
- The whole idea behind wikipedia is that many users can edit to improve a program. Maybe the creator is concerned that someone will come up with a better program, superseding sinebot? travb (talk) 19:20, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, the idea behind Wikipedia is that users can edit to improve an encyclopedia— not my bot. On a related note, SineBot's code is 100% from scratch, despite the fact that HagermanBot, the bot it replaced, died and there was no source code available; moreover one of the primary reasons for not releasing it is I'm simply too lazy to do a code audit and add in idiot-proofing mechanisms— I do that all day at work. :P
- Another part of the reason I'm reluctant to pop open its hood is that I made it for Wikipedia— not every site on the internet. I love Wikipedia. For things and people I love, I'm more likely to go out of my way to make life better for them. However, when random people come along and believe that they are entitled to the embodiment of that love to use for their own purposes, I find myself unlikely to grant their requests.
- Also, some would also argue that SineBot actually is an improvement on HagermanBot in several aspects— all without having the original code, so I'm definitely not afraid of someone making something superior—I'm certain someone will, and I highly encourage them to do so.

Your recent edits
Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 23:25, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Bouna notte!!! gian piero --Gian piero milanetti (talk) 23:57, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Rollback
This bot makes it very hard to mass-rollback spammers who hit many talk pages. I used to be able to just hit a bunch of rollback buttons, now I need to select diffs for each page and click edit and such. Not sure how to get around this problem though. Chillum 03:27, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
We need to talk
Hi bot, You have been pointing me out the signature fact. In the last message you pointed out that mistake. I have just checked I had clicked the signature icon which now resembles a nib of a fountain pen. I had been clicking it whenever I made a noting in discussion section of the article. But you have again pointed it out to me. I believe, somewhere is something we I am missing or not have learned.
I have understood that after completing my comment I have to just click signature icon and that means signature. Is it right? If not then what is it to mark you signature?
On the whole thanks for the help.
See I am going to click the nib icon to mark my signature. I believe this is what I am suppose to do. --Sumir 14:31, 7 September 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumir Sharma (talk • contribs)
- Hi Sumir. You are talking to a machine, but I will answer you. The signature button does not look like a fountain pen but rather a cropped signature, this link is to a picture of it:[4]. You can also type 4 tildes like so: ~~~~. On most keyboard the tilde is the button to the left of the 1 when shift is down. Hope this clears things up for you. Chillum 14:38, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Apology for trampling upon you existence as a bot. Well Humanist would be criticized for being a rational and scientific. Cognitive Science would be proud of you as their theory of AI becoming a reality. Ha ha. sumirSumir 02:14, 8 September 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumir Sharma (talk • contribs)
Is anyone else bugged by this?
I was looking at SineBot's userpage, and one of its boxes said "this user enjoys wikipedia without wearing clothes", or something disconcerting like that. I mean, I know what it actually means, but I'm just asking if anyone else thinks this might be a bit unsettling, even though we know that SineBot is a robot? I just thought that was a bit creepy.
- I have never known a computer program to wear clothes. To be frank that would be even more creepy. Chillum 22:48, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
I am gonna have to agree that it would be creepy say to walk in and see my computer with one of my sweaters on :) I however commonly edit wiki in the nude, it gives it a nice breeze ;) HEFF ;) 18:40, 16 September 2009 (UTC) --HEFF ;) 18:40, 16 September 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Maddrummerhef (talk • contribs)
- LOL. In truth, I, too, must have also edited nude at some point. I know I've at least done so in a towel. In all, the userbox, along with the other inherently obvious ones (e.g., no personal attacks), is/are there for this explicit purpose: to set the tone for Wikipedia's newcomers. The conduct/major policy userboxes are there as a short-short-short rundown of what I believed to be the most frequent policy/guideline traps that newcomers fall into. In terms of the nudity one, plenty of content on Wikipedia is unsettling, edgy, and sometimes too neutral for some people's tastes (especially those who believe that their bias isn't bias), but as an encyclopedia, we've gotta cover those details, too.
Of course, I admit that my bias is that I'm anti-censorship, and I don't really try to hide it. :P Ironically, the one thing that society has liberal access to (and, by the sheer nature of it, inherently must have access to in order to pop out some progeny) is nudity, yet, despite its daily availability, seems to be the one thing people wanna censor. Check out Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Censor to see how disproportionately{{censor}}
is needed to be used on anatomy/sexuality articles in comparison to other subject areas. It's funny, but in all that I know, I still have no solid answer as to how or why that comes about. Nudity/sex is the one thing that all of us walking around on the planet are the end result of, yet it's the one thing we apparently can't stand to be reminded of despite craving it constantly. Maybe people simply don't want to be reminded of themselves, and nudity is the one thing that always does? Dunno.
Anyyyyway, end of ramble. I need to fix the damn bot when I get home. :P --slakr\ talk / 03:12, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure why my signature is not working properly. I do add DonnaKP 20:47, 30 September 2009 (UTC) after all my comments but apparently it's not working. What could I be doing wrong? I figured it out. In preferences, I had type DonnaKP in the box next to "Sign my name exactly as shown." which I had checked. Now that I have unchecked the box, it's working properly. Open letter to SineBot
Dear SineBot:
I know that you are a program floating in the wikiMatrix, and that you were not given the intelligence that you need. Although polite, you are annoying.
If signatures are sooo important (and I agree traceability is a good thing to have), why not make the god Wikipedia to automatically sign every new comment in the discussions? Furthermore, and just creeping the scope a bit, why not putting a control on the discussion pages that allows users to hide or show the full signature?
I hope we can reach some sort of agreement with the gods living in the wikiOlympus, and get this resolved. As much as you are obsessed with signing everything, I'm obsessed with robots with the intelligence of a fly that edit my comments. For that, I prefer human intervention.
Regards to you and your master,
Luis

Why Bother
Why should I "sign" edits with Feldercarb (talk) 21:22, 4 January 2010 (UTC) if Sinebot does it anyways. Seems like a waste o'time Feldercarb (talk) 21:22, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- I agree! SineBot should stop spamming us. "manually" signing is a waste of time, how about change the software? or just have SineBot do it automatically. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.224.171.106 (talk) 17:07, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah but if you let SineBot do it, you wouldn't be able to use custom signatures, like so many people do.

Requesting a delay
Hey SineBot creator, would you implement a 5 or 10 minute delay in signing unsigned comments? I recently made a comment (an inane one, but still) hit enter to go to a new line, and the comment submitted because the cursor was stuck in the title box. Annoyed, I went back to edit the comment to add the rest and sign it, but a conflict came up saying SineBot had signed it and now there was an editing conflict. --99.96.103.225 (talk) 17:09, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Ask it to User:Ketabtoon to translate it for you. look here [5] and here [6]. If he can't talk like a gentlemen, than he has no rights to talk bad and scolding, and hide his face by editing this post without his account (he did it also in the past, look and read my talk page User talk:Abasin). I think is not right and wikipedia most do something against it. If you (User:VirtualSteve) are the one who has blocked me 2 times. I will see what you are doing with this. I will see your justice and of wikipedia. May justice triumph.Abasin-اباسین (Tofaan-توفان) 16:41, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Malfunctioning SineBot
I believe the SineBot is malfunctioning, after signing my post with four tildes, I received the following message:
Your recent edits
Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( 64.222.106.154 (talk) 17:42, 13 February 2010 (UTC) ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 17:14, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

It's time to stop SineBot
Ok everyone. We all hate SineBot. Its rude, redundant, and is entirely self-centered. There is only one way to deal with this damn bot. We need to stop SineBot; send this punk out to pasture.
Ok, I've given the inspiration. Now I need your help. We need to strategize and figure out how to stop SineBot.
Even though it is a Bot, there MUST be someone behind this we can appeal to.
I am looking for your input and advice. Let's get the SineBot! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.206.1 (talk) 22:28, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

- The idea behind SineBot is to ensure that anybody that contributes takes ownership of what they say. If you don't want your name attached to something that you are saying, then don't say it. Very simple. Rapier1 (talk) 01:55, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Signing speed is too fast
SineBot is signing posts on talk pages too quickly less than 2 minutes ot too fast. I can't rollback vandalism in one click because of this. Please change this, or I will ask an admin to block the bot. Thanks. BTW, I'm posting here since your user talk page states you may not answer quickly - nat a good thing for a bot operator! When you signed my insigned item on 24 March 2010, both the unsigned item and my previous signed item _disappeared_ from the "July Crisis" discussion page. How did this happen? Italus (talk) 14:53, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Criticisms
1) Because SineBot signs, I never bother.
2) The Wiki software itself is perfectly capable of doing this and it's so fundamental that it should and it shouldn't be outsourced to a bot.
3) (Only a technical problem) Using a pull technology to do this is crazy, changes should be pushed not pulled, you're pointlessly enslaving electrons (and wasting energy)
4) Because SineBot signs, I never bother, oh and did I mention if you want people to sign their comments it's so fundamental it makes sense to put it in the software. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.132.248.82 (talk) 20:37, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- In response to your points:
- 1. You're still ignoring the signatures guideline, but I guess that's your choice if you truly think it'll improve the encyclopedia. Just beware that SineBot, while smart, won't detect all instances where you need to sign.
- I wrote a poem to address the rest of your concerns:
- "Efficiency"
- Oh how great it
- All would be if
- Only had we
- Efficiency
- The eye would see
- In every hue
- Our clocks and minds
- Would never skew
- We'd never need
- To buy things new
- Or stop to take
- A lengthy poo
- But if you do think
- These words should be true
- Make something better
- Or s.t.f.u.
- Cheers :P --slakr\ talk / 05:56, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
