RFPP

Hi iMatthew. I've semi'd the article for three days. I know that's shorter than the week originally asked for, but I think it should increase in stages. Hopefully the page edits will die down after then, but if not, relist or request on my talk page. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 19:47, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Where did you go?

If you're talking about the vacation template I had on my page last week, I was touring New York City, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Williamsburg as part of an end-of-the-year class trip. If you're talking about the current template I have on my userpage, it's because I 'll be inactive from Wikipedia. I've lost my will to edit, but that doesn't mean I'm completely gone (I may come back full time in the future). I'll still check my messages regularly. That's all. Cheers, The Chronic 19:53, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My pleasure. :) The Chronic 19:57, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeah... well... do you think you could take over them for me (Jepetto, L0W3R1D3R and Qebafhzn, although it seems that none of them have been very active too recently). The Chronic 20:00, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Done. The Chronic 20:19, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, I will. :D Future contact may be made by e-mail. The Chronic 20:27, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well then check http://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/preview/ and where it says Finally, what about the new Divas Championship? When will Natayla find out who she will face for the coveted new title? And when will the title finally be contested? What is Around the World?

It's a collaboration!

A collaboration using advanced wiki-tools!

The event is being co-sponsored by Wikiproject Lists of basic topics and WikiProject Geography, and participants will be "traveling" all around "the World" visiting each country online (here on Wikipedia and perhaps beyond) as they apply advanced wiki-tools to improve pieces of the profiles of each and every country on Earth!. Each pass through these pages is a "trip around the World..."

The set of pages we are working on is currently located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists of basic topics.

Each page presents essential information on each country in a topic outline format, for ease of overviewing and navigating. Most of the topics presented are linkified, which turns these pages into a hypertextual map to material about each country on Wikipedia. When completed, they shall all become part of Wikipedia's contents system.

The pages share a standard format, with the information on each country presented in the same general order. So rather than getting stuck on a single country trying to complete it, each participant works on all 200+ political entities, completing a single data item or detail across all of the pages!

For this they use advanced tools like WP:AWB, Linky, etc. It goes fast, and since others are doing this at the same time, it makes "the World" feel like a beehive, and the participants are its bees.  :) The energy is contagious.

And since you are moving from country to country, the tasks make it feel like you are traveling around the world, and you get to learn a little about every country as you do so. This approach also allows for greater efficiency, because by the time you've done 30 or so of a particular item, you've figured out how to finish it faster and more effectively (such as where to find the data or how to make adjustments), and this specialization speeds up development - but more importantly it reduces errors.

The tasks are varied, which adds even more variety to the project. Some tasks are look-ups-and-fill-ins, some are copy and paste, some are image hunts, some are maintenance adjustments, some are link fixing, some are blue-linking (creating an underlying redirect so a link turns blue), some are fact checking, etc.

For an example of what a nearly complete page looks like, see these:

List of basic Albania topicsList of basic Argentina topicsList of basic Australia topicsList of basic Canada topicsList of basic Ecuador topicsList of basic Egypt topicsList of basic France topicsList of basic Germany topicsList of basic Iceland topicsList of basic India topicsList of basic Indonesia topicsList of basic Iraq topicsList of basic Republic of Ireland topicsList of basic Italy topicsList of basic Isle of Man topicsList of basic Israel topicsList of basic Japan topicsList of basic Macau topicsList of basic Mexico topicsList of basic Russia topicsList of basic Taiwan topicsList of basic United Kingdom topicsList of basic United States topics

There are only about 200 more pages to go!

Standing by to help are co-coordinators, who can lend a helping hand to participants, provide instruction and tips on how to use the tools, and help them find what they are looking for. Co-coordinators also use advanced tools to inspect the work of participants, and touch it up as needed, or if a task was done wrong throughout, point this out to the participant so he or she can make the necessary corrections.

Co-coordinators are working on the set of pages right now, to familiarize themselves with "the World" so they can help more effectively by the time the main event starts. But there's still lots of preparation left to be done, and we are looking for editors experienced in advanced wikitools who would like to become co-coordinators.

The Transhumanist    04:25, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for volunteering

It's taken me awhile to figure out where we need the most help.

To put our best foot forward for participants, I'd like to have the lead section, the regions section, and the government branches sections completed on each page in the set before we open this up to a torrent of volunteers. The lead section is the most visible, while the other sections I mentioned are the trickiest/most confusing (they have temporary text that's there as a starting point to save work, but it isn't accurate for many of the countries - for example, I used "parliament" because it fits many countries and produces a blue link, but there are a lot of countries that don't have parliaments and so it needs to be corrected for those. Some countries don't have presidents, some don't have prime ministers, etc.). If we leave the temporary text on the pages where it isn't correct, we'll get a lot of people pointing out "errors" that we already know about.

Your first task is this:

(Note: "x" = each country's name).

On each of the pages, under the section Executive branch of the government of x, is the item:

Well, not all countries have a president. The head of state may have another title. Check each page and for those countries where a president is not the head of state, replace the link with the title of the head of state for that country. If it is a redlink, that is OK, as long as it is correct.

Leave the [[]] in place. That will be filled in later with the name of the current head of state.

If you use AWB on this project, always uncheck "Auto tag", "Apply general fixes", and "Unicodify whole article". They should be turned off. Otherwise, it will erase all the temporary [[]]'s from the pages!

Tip: If you watchlist these pages, you'll be able to see the overall activity of the team on these, and see who all is working on them.

Good luck.

Have fun.

Let me know (on my talk page) if you have any questions, comments, ideas, suggestions, observations, solutions, innovations, etc. :)

  • The C-Class rating has been introduced. The rating falls between articles that are more than Start-Class, but less than B-Class.
  • Immediately put into effect, our project has begun use of the List-Class rating. The List-Class rating is for list articles that are of less quality than B-Class articles.

  • Our goal is to get the number of Stub-Class articles below 600. The current count is 631. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help expand and/or source an article or two. A list has been placed on the stub article subpage of stub articles of well-known wrestlers that should be fairly easy to improve.

From the Editors

As I'm sure you noticed above, this is the 20th edition of the WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter! It has come a long way since the first issue, and I'm sure it will only improve from here. I'd like to thank everyone reading this for continuing to read the newsletter, biweekly.

I'd like to especially thank those who have helped to get the newsletter to it's 20th edition; The Hybrid, The Chronic, TJ Spyke, Alex Roggio, LAX, ThinkBlue, Nikki311, GaryColemanFan, Gavyn Sykes, D.M.N., Naha, NiciVampireHeart, SRX, Zenlax and, RkOrton.

Also, lastly I'd like to thank Misza13, for sending the newsletter out for us, though his bot. His bot has to be the most important part of the process, because without it, the newsletter would not get sent to project members.

I know that's a long list, but they all deserve recognition for their hard work towards the newsletter. So again, thank you to that list of people, and thank you to all of the newsletter's biweekly readers. If you have an questions, comments, or feedback about the newsletter, remember those links below.

Re: Hey there

Hi, yeah I'm kind of new, been here since February. Thanks but I kind of don't want to be adopted for a reason I don't know. I just know I don't want to be. I've probably learned everything that the adoption process can teach me. If there isn't anything I don't know I usually just ask someone or I go read up about and try to find out more, thanks anyway. I'll think about it though.--WillC 02:20, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User stuff

Hey, there. So I have a question for you. This user has been copying and pasting a bunch of stuff from other articles onto their user page. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but they're getting all the categories as well -- this person isn't an article on the Central Nervous System, so you see how this is a problem. What should be done to resolve this, given that the user is clearly unreceptive to warnings or advice? The page has been semi-protected, but it's only a matter of time before they can circumvent that as the account gets older. I'd rather not have to patrol this page for the rest of my life removing the categories. :P --kaoskastle (Talk) 11:50, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thank you very much. --kaoskastle (Talk) 04:23, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:HAU, Status, and you!

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible system) - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 22:55, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question?

If you have the time and don't mind, would you mind telling me which one of these paragraphs sound better. I know there is only a very small difference between them but I'm working the flow of the paragraph and want to know which one would be better to place in the article.

1

The main feud heading into Lockdown was between Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe, with the two battling over the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. On the March 13 episode of Impact!, Management Director Jim Cornette announced that at Lockdown Angle would defend the TNA World Heavyweight Championship against Joe. Later on in the show, Joe would have his own announcement, where he would state that at Lockdown if he did not win the title, he would quit TNA forever, though it would later be changed to he would quit professional wrestling forever. On the same episode of Impact!, following Angle's defence of the TNA Championship against Kaz, Angle announced that at Lockdown he would defeat Joe to prove that he was the best in the business today. Following his announcement, Joe did not appear on Impact! for several weeks. The reason being, he was (Kayfabe) training for his TNA World Heavyweight Championship match at Lockdown against Angle. During the time of Joe's training, Angle would also train. He faced new opponents each week on Impact! in MMA fights.

GAN notices

Hey man, when you nominate articles for GA, don't forget to add the notice to the top of the articles talk page. Thanks, ♥NiciVampireHeart00:21, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Copyedit

Done. I changed the dates per the new MoS, which I thought I would mention in case you hadn't seen the thread on WT:PW about it. Also, I removed the lines "back and forth action" and "had the share of advantages" because they seem like throw away lines to me. What do they add? If you disagree, I won't be mad if you add them back in. :) Nikki311 02:57, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would be quite a chore, especially since some of the Divas (Lena, Eve, Cherry) don't have much info about them available and might be hard to get to GA. When User:Deep Shadow was around, we thought about making a FT using the List of WWE Women's Champions and all the Divas that held that championship, which might be easier. It has always been my goal to do it eventually, so I'd appreciate any help you are willing to give. Nikki311 21:33, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In my understanding, it has to be comprehensive when you make it a FT, but you can add another article if say, they hire a new Diva. That is another reason why the former Women's Champs is the way to go. The Championship doesn't change hands that often (and usually to someone who has already had it), and we won't have to worry about removing people from the list like we would if we just went for a FT of current Divas. Divas can get fired, retire, or ask for a release, but if you had the Women's Championship...you are always on the list. Don't worry about helping right now, I have a million projects right now, too. That reminds me, I finished copyediting the 2008 WWE Draft. It looks good. One of the reasons the last draft article that was nominated didn't pass was because of the lack of backstage info, but I think this one has enough. Nikki311 21:58, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
