Korean names request

I know there are plenty of articles with incomplete {{Infobox Korean name}} templates, but if anyone could add Hanja, RR and/or MR names to the following articles, I would be terribly gratefull:

Thanks in advance! PC78 (talk) 08:17, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flag of South Korea

Flag of South Korea

I removed some POV edit without clear evidence. [1]

In 1882, Korean ambassador Bak Yeong-hyo to Japan requested the Chinese government allow him to use flag of the Qing Empire as the flag of Korea, but was refused by Qing government.(??)

This edit and sources are very questionable(hoax?). Watch out this page.

Newssports (talk) 09:47, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! For the 1.0 Editorial Team, §hepBot (Disable) 21:37, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've already taken the liberty of adding C-Class to our project banner and assessment scale. I don't see any good reason not to use it, especially since it has been approved by the 1.0 Editorial Team. Other opinions are of course welcome. PC78 (talk) 21:53, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a page for the recent film Public Enemy Returns, but do not speak Korean. If anyone could help double check the Korean title I entered, or any other specifics, I'd appreciate it! Thanks --Gwythoff (talk) 18:36, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for photos

Dear Korean article writers and editors, have any of you by chance been to Baengnyeong Island? If so, please consider adding some photos to that article. It would be especially nice to have a photo of Changsan Cape, the nearby point of land in Ryongyon, North Korea, which is easily visible from Baengnyeong-do. Perhaps someone has already taken such a picture, or will take a trip to Baengnyeong-do in the near future. If so, any pictures would be appreciated! --Amble (talk) 04:46, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You could request that one of these photographers change their license to a free license: [2]. Badagnani (talk) 05:30, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion; there's one image there that could be useful. There were some other possibilities pointed out at my talk page, so perhaps I'll try requesting one of those. Still, if anyone happens to go in the future, remember to take some photos! --Amble (talk) 03:46, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A newbie Ex-oneatf (talk · contribs) created Korean war crimes without sourcing and suggests to create [Wikiproject Sino-Japanese-Korean relations] at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Wikiproject Sino-Japanese-Korean relations. Before commenting the article, please look into the history of the article like this.

Wikiproject workgroup on Sino-Japanese-Korean relations

Wikiproject Sino-Japanese-Korean relations

I have proposed a Wikiproject workgroup on Sino-Japanese-Korean relations.

In my opinion, Wikipedia topics on Sino-Japanese-Korean topics all too often, and unfortunately, reflect the tense, exaggerated, embittered and often politically nationalistic debates currently prevalent in the popular presses of these three great nations.

In many case, these polemics are immature, propagandistic and unencyclopedic in nature and causes being promoted by unethical editing habits. Japanese-Korean topics appear to be amongst the more problematic topics on the Wikipedia.

At the same time, within each nation and academic circles there are moves to create pan-national understanding and document an accurate account of history. It is therefore proposed to establish a Sino-Japanese-Korean workgroup interested in establishing good working relations to improve the academic nature of these articles and encourage normal editing.

For the sakes of honesty and transparency, this pan-national workgroup was sincerely proposed precisely in response to the mode of operation used by many editors

Such wasteful activities as persistent allegations, personal attacks and other distractions from the primary activity of content production and reference checking only discouraging newcomers, less aggressive and, especially, genuine academics from participating on the Wikipedia. They undermine the goodwill of the Wikipedia.

It is hoped that by bring together authors from across the spectrum who are interested in rising above differences standards, understanding and sensitivity can be improved; just as they are in academia at present.

Your contribution is welcome. My apologies if it is not according to the protocols to make such announcements on other WikiProjects. --Ex-oneatf (talk) 05:37, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How is this any different from the status quo? Would forming such a work group actually have any effect on how people behave? Which reminds me - please try to explain your edits at Korean war crimes. In fact, you cannot - the comments at the deletion poll all criticized you for writing the article in racist and nationalistic tone. I know there is this xenophobic nationalism in Japan that is deeply rooted in anti-Korean sentiments. (Ferromagneticmonopole (talk) 02:41, 17 July 2008 (UTC))[reply]
Well, you can also express your concern over the project propsal page since there needs more opinion on his intention for proposing it.--Caspian blue (talk) 02:45, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A request to rename Chinilpa has been made at WP:RM. Comments are welcome. PC78 (talk) 14:50, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Korean dancers

I meandered by Category:Korean dancers today, and found that nearly all the articles there are for K-pop artists. I figured the category was for actual dancers, like ballet dancers, classical dancers, even breakdancers if what they are known for is dancing...as opposed to people who happen to dance while doing other things like singing, like TVXQ. I love watching cute boybands dance and all, but do they really qualify as "dancers" in the sense meant by the category? --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 14:08, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so, though I guess dancers" can be defined fairly broadly. I too would expect the category to be used for "actual" dancers. Feel free to remove any articles you don't feel are appropriate. :) PC78 (talk) 15:23, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That will empty out most of the category, but I'm sure there are relevant articles out there to help fill it again. I'm going to hold off to see what others have to say (just in case someone has an objection), but in the meantime could editors more knowledgeable about the subject be on the lookout for articles to add to the cat? --hamu♥hamu (TALK) 21:47, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

anybody help? i can't edit Dokdo article.

i found some Wrong edit in article. But i can't change article. Please can you help me this? how can i change this article?

Even 1951 Map (drawed by Japanese goverment 衆議院)

Dokdo was Officialy exclude in Territory of Japan.

many Japanese user participate in this article. but korean user is none. Please participate this. Masonfamily (talk) 07:02, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why can't you edit the article? I'm pretty sure that if you write this argument at the talk page in such disorder, you may be blocked. And do not expect others would take over it. You need to organize your argument and try to fix your writing first.--12:59, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Liancourt Rocks is a protected article, and can only be edited by established editors. User:Masonfamily is a newly created account, and therefore he cannot edit it. If you have any concerns over the article, you're best making them over at Talk:Liancourt Rocks. Regards. PC78 (talk) 17:32, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then, this newbie should read ArbCom rules in a green box at Talk:Liancourt Rock first. I noticed that this guy pasted the ame contents to several editors. Besides, Wikiepdia is managed by volunteer editors, so there is no obligation to take over his/her wish. The editor should clean up his own writing readable. "Somebody would do this or that for me" is not a good attitude for Wikipedians. --Caspian blue (talk) 17:48, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone please take a look at this newly created article? I can't tell if this is a real subject or not. "Dokdo volunteered campaign" gets no hits on google other than Wikipedia. The article has a link, but it's in Korean so I can't read it. I would think that the dispute over Dokdo is already well covered in Liancourt Rocks. PC78 (talk) 07:45, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see it's already deleted. It's a temporary fund-raising and advocacy campaign, and it doesn't seem necessary to have an article on it, or even to mention it in Liancourt Rocks. --Amble (talk) 17:49, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't object to it as such, but is this really necessary? Should we not be consulting the rest of the project first, to see if there is any interest in such a work group? Do we need a whole work group for just a handfull of articles? Shouldn't a work group be more than just one user acting on his own? PC78 (talk) 07:53, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it is not necessary. Besides, this kind of controversial ones are pre-discussions with people essential. I request it for speedy deletion.--Caspian blue (talk) 09:48, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You may want to list it a WP:MfD. PC78 (talk) 17:33, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did file for MfD. Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject Korea/Dokdo and East Sea--Caspian blue (talk) 18:39, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Elmor rus (talk · contribs) raises an issue that he think "we should" include the terrorist description on An Jung-geun as a terrorist. This has been a good example of long-time tendentiousness or edit warring among Japan-Korea related subjects. So any input from anyone interested in the subject would be appreciated. Thanks. --Caspian blue (talk) 14:13, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you're Korean, you would hear through various media that the writer past away today. He was a big tree in Korean literature, and influenced to Korean film, drama, and plays as well. Some of his works adapted into film are Seopyeonje (by Im Kwon-taek) and Iodo (Kim Ki-young). The article on him should have been made much earlier, but the stub needs more expansion, given the his contributions. Thanks. --Caspian blue (talk) 13:20, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Borrowed Scenery in traditional East Asian gardens

I was bold and moved the article "Shakkei and the picturesque", a title no one would ever search for or link to, to the far more common and straightforward "borrowed scenery". I have done a little to bring a more worldwide view (i.e. not just Japan) into the intro sentence, and added the East Asian languages template, to represent the different ways this term is pronounced in different languages.

A lot of work needs to be done to expand this out to cover the Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese (and other?) applications of this concept, not just the Japanese, and the Korean and Vietnamese words need to be added to the language template at the top.

I am no expert on this subject, especially not on the non-Japanese aspects/versions of it, and so I apologize for leaving it in this half-done state, and implore anyone with an interest and an expertise in traditional East Asian gardens to contribute whatever you can. Thank you. LordAmeth (talk) 17:20, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox kdrama

(I hope you'll understand this message.)

(Translation): Can we just replace {{Infobox kdrama}} with {{Infobox Television}} on relevant articles? Because the two templates are overlapped a lot in function. If someone think that Korean name and Romanizations of a title should be attached, using {{Ko-hhrm}} would be a solution.--Caspian blue (talk) 14:21, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It would be helpful if someone could post this message in English... PC78 (talk) 14:08, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected hoax article

An article tagged with the WikiProject Korea and WikiProject Vietnam banners has been suspected of being a hoax (or part thereof) on the grounds that a large part of it seems to be blatant pseudo-history. See Talk:Lý Long Tường for the discussion. If you have any points to make, then be sure to make your voice heard (however small or trivial they may be)! Otherwise, there is a real risk of a one-sided debate. David873 (talk) 10:45, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Korean settlement infobox

User:ASDFGH has created two new infoboxes, {{Infobox Korean Metropolitan cities‎}} and {{Infobox Korean Provinces‎}}, and has been adding them to articles. Personally I think they look good (though I've not looked at them too closely), but I know there has been a lot of recent discussion regarding {{Infobox Korean settlement}}, so I would like to make other project members aware of this development. PC78 (talk) 00:53, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And now, there are two ways. One: {{Infobox Korean settlement}} be merged into {{Infobox Settlement}}. Two: {{Infobox Korean Cities}} - simmilar to metropolitan cities and provinces boxes - being created and {{Infobox Korean settlement}} get suspended. -- JSH-alive (talk)(cntrbtns)(mail me) 10:44, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We certainly don't need more infoboxes. A single template for cities should suffice. PC78 (talk) 18:12, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Patbingsu#Vote

Hello, everyone. How are you doing in the humid and scorching weather. If you want to cool off the heat as seeing cool images, there is a good place to please your eyes. At Patbingsu, several editors including Mindme (talk · contribs), me, and Badagnani have disputed over the inclusion of Mindme (talk · contribs)'s images to the article. The food is a very famous summer dessert comprised of red bean paste, shaved ice, fruits and others. Mindme's pictures have been included in the article[7][8], but better and diverse pictures come up. So if there is anyone want to see what patbingsu is and what images are presented on the talk page or meditating the dispute, please feel free to leave your input there. Although we have an article on the Cultural Heritage Administration and its National Treasures of South Korea, Natural monuments of South Korea, and Important Intangible Cultural Properties, we don't seem to have an article on South Korea's Living Treasures program (although we have Living National Treasure (Japan)). Can the Korean and/or English website for the South Korean Living Treasures program (whatever it's called) be located so that such an article may be created? some japanese user pretending like a korean ID

hi, i fist participate wikipfoject korea. i find some korean wannabe ID Hye-Hyun deleted massive deleted comfort women article. i think this user is a japanese. i recover it.[9] watch out this user. Masonfamily (talk) 20:52, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, actually the project is not only for Koreans, however the user reminds me of Komdori (talk · contribs). First of all, the name itself tells that the user is not Korean. Koreans do not use the hyphen and capital letter altogether for their name in Romanization. Either Hye Hyun or Hye-hyun or Hyehyun is commonly used. I've also never heard of the name, 혜헌. If he is a Korean, the name is like monk's name. Very peculiar name. Besides, Koreans do not say "안녕" for the first meeting to a stranger.[10] That is regarded very rude and uneducated. Even Korean-Americans (2nd or 3rd generation) who can't speak Korean at all say "안녕하세요" in such case. Aside from this, the user is whitebashing or distorting info on the article. That is a big problem.--Caspian blue (talk) 21:22, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about ssaulabi (I've never read about them from respectable sources, only hearsay), but seungbyeong is just a Korean word for "monk soldier." --Kjoonlee 03:25, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
