Capitol Building Image

Hello -- My company is working on a film project about the American Presidents and we were hoping to use this image. I see that it says that it's public domain, but would you be willing to sign a license agreement giving us permission to use it? Thank you very much! Resolution Chart

NoClip, Are you the original author of this resolution chart? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Resolution_chart.svg

I have some questions about this chart, and the description... "It does not accuratly reflect the screen shape (aspect ratio) of these formats, which is always stretched or squeezed to 4:3 or 16:9. The table assumes an average vertical detail loss of .75x due to interlace. The actual loss is variable due to content, motion, opinion on acceptable levels of flicker, and possible success of deinterlacing. 1920x1080i is not included because all common use of 1080i is filtered to 1440 or less."

I don't understand why interlace artifacts are discussed or factored in to this chart. It would seem to be better to reference this as a separate discussion. The resolution of HDTV is identical for interlaced or progressive scan formats for the same signal type (1920x1080 or 1280x720).

I don't understand the justification for the statement "all common use of 1080i is filtered to 1440 or less". 1080i is defined by SMPTE 274M, and is broadcast in the US using ATSC. Neither of these specifications filter the horizontal resolution to 1440. Only HDV uses anamorphic pixels to record 1440x1080 as 1920x1080. Most of the broadcast 1080i material is shot and edited with full 1920x1080 resolution equipment.

This chart has been placed on many different wikipedia pages, and I am interested in working with the author(s) to improve it.

Thank you!

Your bot identified Image:Downtown Washington (Aerial view).jpg as having no copyright information despite the image having a US Government public domain tag. - Noclip 16:56, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the bot correctly identified it as having no source, which is not the same thing. --Carnildo 21:31, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SoaP

In my sandbox I reworked the article, moving most of the trivia section into a "parodies and references in popular culture section", leaving only three points in trivia. I moved the snake information up under the cast, and somewhat reworked the intro. I also removed the viral videos as well. Look this over and see if there are any other improvements that need to be made, and once that's done, I'll transfer it over to here. --Nehrams2020 00:54, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Looking over the reworked version, the main issues have been resolved. While it would pass in this form, my personal recommendation is to get rid of the first two trivia facts completely and to work the third one into the History section. Noclip 02:48, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I transfered it over to the article if you would like to take another look. --Nehrams2020 19:02, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Blues Brothers (film)

Thanks for assisting in the SoaP page and passing it. Can you also take a look at The Blues Brothers? I can work on it further today if there are any necessary improvements. Over at WP:Films, we're trying to improve the quality of articles we produce, and it would be beneficial to broadcast as many GA films as we can for our newsletter within the next week. If you can't, no worries, thanks for helping.--Nehrams2020 19:59, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My secret

While I'd like to suggest it is all magic and raw talent, I have to give plenty of credit to the fact that I'm shooting with a 13 megapixel camera and high quality lenses, and quite often stitching 5-20 images together which (with up to 50% overlap to ensure that no part of the scene is missed) often resulting in images which are equivalent to about 50-100 megapixels. I usually downsample them by halving the dimensions and the image still typically results in an extremely high resolution image that is far sharper than an image would look straight out of a camera. That said, it all requires quite a lot of time and patience - more than a lot of people would be willing to give! Diliff | (Talk) (Contribs) 14:20, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Noclip: I notice you voted "support" for the Hamburg picture. Don't you think you should move your “Support” to the beginning of your paragraph though (and move it hierarchically to the far left), or create a separate "support" vote? Thanks for your two cents to help call those "effete corps of impudent snobs" for what they are: "nattering nabobs of negativism". I loved the "Bah!" part. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Driver.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Driver.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

License tagging for Image:White House Rear View 4K.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:White House Rear View 4K.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:10, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

White House image

Hi Noclip. thanks for writing me about the White House north portico image. I may have mispoke. The problem is more focus and clarity. the present picutre is in much better focus and shows more architectural detail. While I liked the appropriate spring time look to your pic it was very milky and did not show much detail. CApitol3 15:40, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Noclip. On my monitor, the image I placed there last night shows much more detail. I can see the dentils in the pediment, and more detail around the wiondows. CApitol3 20:37, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi (again) Noclip. At that size it looks wonderful! But what do you think when it is in hte size on hte article page? There it seemed less detailed to me. CApitol3 22

Hey Noclip, I almost forgot about it and then your WMATA map nomination reminded me. You are from DC, right? Would you by any chance (if you have an excess of spare time :-) ) be interested in visiting the national archives to digitze a specific picture which they have on file, but of which there is no free high quality reproduction available? I'm talking about the Buchenwald pic from the screwed up nomination a week ago. Just a thought. I don't know the propper procedure yet (whether you'd have to bring your own scanner, if you have to schedule a date, etc.) but I could help work it out if you'd be willing to do the legwork (and fingerwork for that matter :-) ). As-stub → As-stubclass

Hi - hope you don't mind, but I've moved {{As-stub}} to {{As-stubclass}}, since it doesn't appear to be a stub template (and certainly hasn't been proposed as one), but more related to a Talk-page style Wikiproject specific assessment scheme, which uses templates with "class" as part of their name, to distinguish them from the WP-wide stubbing scheme. Grutness...wha? 02:03, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for uploading this. It's definitely a good addition to articles. Though, I just moved it over to commons, and categorized it so it's available for other language projects. I've been trying to keep things organized there. It would help a lot for future images to go directly there, and put in the main category commons:9/11 or appropriate subcategories. Thanks. --Aude (talk) 13:47, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GAC backlog elimination drive

This form message is being sent to you either due to your membership with WikiProject Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. A new drive has been started requesting that all members review at least one article (or more, if you wish!) within the next two weeks at GAC to help in removing the large backlog. This message is being sent to all members, and even members who have been recently reviewing articles. There are almost 130 members in this project and about 180 articles that currently need to be reviewed. If each member helps to review just one or two articles, the majority of the backlog will be cleared. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the GAC talk page. --Nehrams2020 01:03, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Would you like to be indentified as "Noclip" or by your full name? Also, please email me at erikkai@yahoo.com if you don't mind. Thanks for releasing the image into the public domain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.224.116.54 (talk) 18:43, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:OpenOffice Windows.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:OpenOffice Windows.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. I apologize

Between December 14, 2005 and June 7, 2007, I vandalized Wikipedia under my previous username (YechielMan) and under various IP addresses and alternate accounts.

I recently reviewed the contribution logs of all the accounts and IP addresses that I can recall having used. My goal was to identify all of the intentionally harmful edits I caused, and to apologize to the individual users who reverted those edits, or warned me, or blocked me.

Hence, I apologize to you and to all of the following users:

Adam Bishop, Amarkov, Antandrus, AntiVandalBot, Bdj (Badlydrawnjeff), Conk 9, CanbekEsen, DLand, Downwards, Eagle 101, Ericbronder, Gogo Dodo, High on a tree, Hut 8.5, Interiot, Jayjg, Jrwallac, Kingboyk, Kuru, Noclip, Patrick Berry, PFHLai, PhantomS, Pollinator, Rachack, Ranma9617, Rx StrangeLove, SlimVirgin, Tfrogner, TommyBoy, Vary, Woohookitty, Zzuuzz, and some anonymous IPs. (I also reverted one edit myself after it went unnoticed for three weeks.)

Thank you for maintaining the integrity of Wikipedia against everyone who has attacked it, including my old self.

If you wish to respond, please do so at my talk page.

Best regards, Shalom (HelloPeace) 19:26, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Off Soundtrack Cover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Off Soundtrack Cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:13, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:The Dark Knight (2008) - Joker.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:The Dark Knight (2008) - Joker.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Informing past contributors of new TFD for Template:Maintained

As you were a contributor in the last TFD, I am letting you know that {{Maintained}} is again up for deletion. Please review the current version of the template and discuss it at the TFD. Thanks! — BRIAN0918 • 2008-01-30 17:48Z

I noticed that you have participated in Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates in the past. There are now two candidates and the project appears to be abandoned. If you could look at the candidates and vote it would be appreciated. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 00:48, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I was wondering why the latest revision of your Image:Union Station at Dusk.jpg is the smallest of the three? There is lost detail because of that. Also, what is the difference between the 2.3 MB version and the 2.5 MB version? Thanks. (Someone moved it to Commons but only the latest revision, i.e. the one with least detail). —Wknight94 (talk) 16:20, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

KPMG

it would help if you could indicate in what respects you think the KPMG article reads like an advert so that it can be improved. For my part I am reasonably comfortable that there is some good critical information in the history section about law suits against the firm giving some balance to the article Dormskirk (talk) 21:39, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Image-Resolution chart (Combined).svg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Image-Resolution chart (Combined).svg is a duplicate of an already existing article, category or image.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Image-Resolution chart (Combined).svg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are listed as a GA reviewer. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing!
