Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 86.133.241.140 (talk) at 08:55, 15 January 2010 (Errors in today's or tomorrow's On this day: moving to main discussiona area). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 18:45 on 13 November 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Haiti earthquake

The Presidential Palace has collapsed in Haiti, and thousands are feared dead.[1] At least two hospitals have collapsed but I have not found a cite for that at the moment. ~AH1(TCU) 02:03, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please update the article with new newslinks, and when the time comes, propose new headlines at WP:ITN/C. Thanks. --PFHLai (talk) 06:57, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to CNN, (and already in the article) more than 100,000 are feared dead. This should probably be added to the hook. ~DC Talk To Me 19:45, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever is currently there is poorly worded. It should say something along the lines of, "A magnitude 7.0 earthquake strikes Haiti, causing widespread devastation and ___________. Just because it struck the capital doesn't make that any more worth mentioning. I work with earthquake articles, so it just seems unprofessional to me [the wording, that is]. ceranthor 20:44, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, the damage is not only in Port-au-Prince, unless the rupture zone was a few mere miles. ceranthor 20:45, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
According to CNN, the epicentre was only ten miles from the centre of Port-au-Prince. Physchim62 (talk) 21:17, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't mean the damage was only in Port-au-Prince, unless that is explicitly stated. ceranthor 22:24, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
