Troy86 SSP and maybe one other editor

Hello Geniac. I notice that you tagged User:Skanter for sockpuppetry with this edit last July. His name has been mentioned in the above case about Troy86. It is unclear whether Skanter should be added to the case, or if he is merely a bystander and others are trying to get him in trouble. Would welcome any insight you can provide from your earlier experience. EdJohnston (talk) 03:39, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Articles with topics of unclear notability from June 2007, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Articles with topics of unclear notability from June 2007 is used solely by a template that has been deleted (CSD C3).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Articles with topics of unclear notability from June 2007, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Night of the Living Dead

Thank you for spotting my non-sense edit, which I based on my experience that "recent" cult films are never in the public domain, without double checking. I'll be more careful with screenshots in the future. – sgeureka tc 08:46, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikicleaner

Hi, in this edit [1] you introduced a link to Georgia, which is a disambiguation page and should not be linked to. The correct link for the U.S. state is Georgia (U.S. state). I have noticed several editors using Wikicleaner do the same thing lately. DuncanHill (talk) 10:43, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, having looked more closely at that edit, please read WP:R2D, and stop misusing automated tools to "fix" redirects which are not broken. Thank you. DuncanHill (talk) 12:04, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Geniac. You have new messages at COMPFUNK2's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Use of (disambiguation) redirects

Regarding this edit: These (disambiguation) redirects exist and are used for a reason--to indicate an intentional link to a disambiguation page. When editors are disambiguating erroneous incoming links to dab pages that do not have the (disambiguation) clarifier, they know that the pages linked through the (disambiguation) redirect are intentional and do not require fixing. (Dab pages with the (disambiguation) clarifier, understandably, rarely if ever have mistaken incoming links.) So please don't repair these redirects when they appear in hatnotes, on other dab pages, or in any other context where a deliberate link to the dab page is intended. Cheers! --ShelfSkewed Talk 05:12, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bot welcoming

I was wondering, why doesn't Wkipedia have a bot that automatically welcomes new users (instead of posting the message when they've done a bad edit)? I've noticed that other wikis, even Encyclopedia Dramatica, have used them (Mysterybot is theirs), so I'm surprised we haven't done this yet. Vileplume 05:44, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Presales

Hi, You have removed my link from presales page the link is www.presaleswiki.com, please do not remove links for the sake of it, presaleswiki.com is a wiki and gives much more detailed information about presales as a subject, it is an open wiki. I am sure it complies with all guidelines on the wikipedia, if such a open platform does not meet the guidelines then i suppose that the other links on the page also do not. I cant understand this..

As a book cover, the image is not replaceable by free content; any other image that shows the packaging of the book would also be copyrighted, and any version that is not true to the original would be inadequate for identification or commentary. --IndianCow Talk 20:32, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"I have added the refrences from one of the leading Business daily of India to support the fact." It supports the following facts,

  • Marketelligent was started in October 2007.
  • NSRCEL incubated Marketelligent to grow.
  • Gives the details and background of the founders.
  • Gives the brief of service areas of the company.
  • gives the hint of the startup buzz in India.

Guess who's back!

Guess who's back? It's me! Since you were one of the people who blocked me, I decided to ask you: if I now make an account, will I get blocked right away again because of my earlier associations with vandalism? If so, then at least I know, right, so that would be great. :) 86.89.146.118 (talk) 15:16, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, you gave me three possible scenarios, I'm cool with number three: it is the only one which will allow me to continue editing. The reason I got my account blocked in the first place was, not because of any vandalism, but rather because I "assumed" I had a right for a fresh new start, only if I admitted to having been a sockpuppeteer. Since my IP still hadn't changed (it still hasn't :)) I was banned right away - it still linked to the previous accounts of which some had been used for vandalism. So I was blocked almost right away! Seems a bit strange to me. 86.89.146.118 (talk) 05:16, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I reblocked this IP address as a serial sockpuppeteer and sneaky vandal (making it look every time again as if he or she is a useful contributor, but inserting nonsense and vandalism inbetween). I think it is better if we consider him or her as banned and save us all the trouble. He was blocked after the last IP block as User talk:Angela from the Blue, User talk:Divine Wodan, User talk:Jouke Bersma, ... so it's not as if he behaved perfectly until now. Fram (talk) 07:39, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The editor is also blocked for a year as the IP User talk:193.172.170.26 for the same reasons (also a static IP, just like this one). All these blocks were for vandalism, despite claims to the contrary. Fram (talk) 12:13, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

thank you

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I noticed someone was modifying the page inserting claims that they had been the priest that denied me communion or claiming that I was otherwise subject to discipline within the Church. My faith is important to me and as a consequence I have been watching the page and trying to keep matters orderly and verifiable. I believe all present factual statements to be true and sourced in keeping with Wikipedia standards -- let me know if more is needed in order to resolve the notice. The two photos are mine and now in the public domain. Have I now indicated the (c) correctly? GFDL. Thank you for taking the time to keep the page professional and neutral in tone; I am most grateful, and fully recognize that it is not my place be the principal correspondent, save to challenge the completely untrue. A follow up to your kind instruction

In this technological world folks like me who try to assemble devices without reading the instructions can be dangerous to themselves and others. No excuses, but this is how I find myself behind the learning curve on wikipedia's entirely intelligent standard of neutrality, which as I noted above, I am grateful for your service in bringing to my attention. Quite frankly before your note, I thought it was up to me to correct the occasional vandals who would ransack the facts, without realizing my own vanity then would likely err in the opposite direction. May I then ask one additional favor? I would be most grateful if you would take personal custody of the page, ensuring its tonal and substantive fairness so as to properly resolve any open dispute and thereby eliminate the legends on the page. I, of course, trust your judgment completely, leaving as much or as little of the page as your standards of complete fairness and evenhandedness warrant.

With gratitude for your assistance in this, Dkmiec —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dkmiec (talkcontribs) 19:23, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Questions re citation form and other matters

I have a question regarding the proper form of citation. I cite articles in this format: [1] Is this the proper format? I have seen folks use different ones including lots of half pipes. Thanks for any insight you can offer.

Also, another minor question I have is when I make a minor edit do I have to sign with four tildes when I am logged in? It looks like my name appears anyway.

Last question: how do I get Wikipedia to email me when changes are made to a page that I am watching?

Super Nanny

Oh, sorry. My mistake. I didn't feel that the image was right for to article, but I guess I was supposed to start a discussion about it first. It's just that I didn't think that the opening screens from international versions of the show were usually used in the infobox? Shouldn't it be the original, or nothing at all? Thanks Zestos (talk) 02:09, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. I've checked the website. That seems to be a site for the UK and US version of the show. The UK version wouldn't have featured the British flag and probably wouldn't have made the Mary Poppins connection. Obviously, that's a theme that's being used to market it to an American audience. I've had a look on channel4.co.uk - the website of the channel that it first aired on - and found that they have the UK version available On Demand (http://www.channel4.com/programmes/supernanny/4od). I checked the first episode and found that, as I said, they didn't use this logo. (Here's a screenshot of the UK opening "logo": http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/002994/supernannyuk.jpg) I also checked the last episode of the UK version and that doesn't feature the US intro/logo either (Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/002994/supernannyuk2.jpg). That being said, after looking at the website that you suggested, it seems that the US series is supposed to be seen as an official continuation of the UK series. Personally, I don't think that any logo should be included. Would you be happy to take this to the article's discussion page? Zestos (talk) 02:53, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
:::: Haha, its cool. What do you think then? Is the US version supposed to be a continuation of the British version, or is it a series in its own right? If its a continuation, then *maybe* that logo should be used. It would probably be easier just to have no image. I'm not all that fussed to be honest, but I like to think that the English language Wikipedia is for all speakers of English - not just Americans - so there shouldn't be any obvious American 'biases'. I see that you're Australian, so you may agree with me =P Zestos (talk) 19:09, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On Opinoso

Hi

Thanks for your contributions. It was an outburst after I realized that Opinoso (a foreigner) has been controlling Brazilian related themes at wikipedia, and he has bullied Brazilians (check the history of his posts, some are contributive, but in most cases he bullies Brazilian posters). Opinoso claims to be Brazilian, but he is not, he is definitely a liar. And he is heavily biased.

Good night, my friend. I received your message but unfortunately I didn't understand it. Do you believe that I am acting as I own an article? Kind regards, --Lecen (talk) 02:01, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your suggestion in Lecen's Talk Page. I have many times complained about article ownership in articles related to Brazilian demography; the other editor seems to have a de facto veto power on these. But my complaints have never been taken in serious. It seems that Wikipedia doesn't have any real procedure to enforce the rule against ownership. Ninguém (talk) 11:21, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Oversight-wikilink.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Oversight-wikilink.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

When I saw this diff [2] we could sure do with you in the Indonesian project! We could clean up about 50 articles/lists just like that from their random added names that are not really ok. Anyways I have had an offline suggestion about how to resolve the problem - I need a conversation here or offline about it - please indicate your preference, thanks SatuSuro 00:04, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I prefer on-wiki conversations about Wikipedia. I'll look through Category:Lists of Indonesian people later. --Geniac (talk) 00:13, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey take care about indonesian lists - its a black hole and I strongly suggest time and sanity wise to only go if you have lots of spare time
OK good - at the death project - we have had a 'sensitivity issue' ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Death) - which I seemed the only death project person doing most of the point making (sigh) and it is now in hiatus - an off line comment by someone i respect suggested if there ever was an issue from a particular area - such as massacres - that the death tags could go 'invisible' - If I remember the sense off the message (I may well have it slightly wrong) - the suggestion was made in the knowledge that there are a few historical figures (ie dead no BLP issue) with biography articles whose sexuality was suspect and when LGBT project tags got thrown (on unverified historical rumours) there were problems - the person pointed out:-
The eventual solution was to tweak the project's tag to include a statement that placing it on the talk page of people didn't necessarily mean that they were LGBT, but rather that they could also have significance to LGBT people

Which sort of makes me wonder if the death project has to make accommodation for one editor who clearly WP:IDONTLIKEIT and put a death template sans skull for those areas where complaints arise - or what? I cannot see why one editor goes for the tagger (it is in our scope) and then considers his sub page as neutral ground? I personally dont like a lot of things on wikipedia but I dont pull project tags (in most case I add them) - your opinion on this matter would be appreciated. Maybe (comments at the project talk page - but there are still something like 16 articles which have had the tag removed with typical comment [3] and that remains unchallenged - and I had to take the brunt of the conversation - I personally walk away after interactions like that as I assume there is a distinct lack of good faith or understanding WP:ABOUT to go any further - so there also WP:CANVASSING issues at the balkan projects as well [4]. I would have gone for a noticeboard comment on it but what with the BLP wars you have to shout, then duck for cover to get anything heard in the roar :( SatuSuro 00:45, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The policy cited on wikiproject death talk area such as "don't like it" "Not censored" is all to do with content. This issue has nothing whatsoever to do with content and everything to do with the sensitivity of wikipedians. Placing a grinning skull and a "this topic comes under wikiproject death" with a link to a nice black gothic wikiproject on the talkpage of articles detailing events where people have recently lost loved ones is not a wikipedia content issue at all but a wikipedians behaviour issue relevent to the way wikipedia is presented and will be percieved. Accusing me of canvassing is an absolute nonsense. I went to the main wikiprojects who deal with those articles and informed them of the issue. As these wikiprojects all deal with the articles in question I have every right to express my opinions on the issue on these wikiproject talkpages just as SatuSuro does on wikiproject death. Although only recently involved in these articles this editor is now treating the situation as if wikiproject death WP:OWNs them (another thing I have been accused of). This WP:wikilawyering does not help us to have any sort of sensible debate on this issue. I have already declared that I will not remove templates if the wikiproject chooses to replace them. I am a very reasonable editor and willing to debate anything but having long lists of accusations (including POV!) thrown at me along with long diatribes on irrelevant policy makes it impossible to discuss the actual issues. I will declare my personal interest here if it helps. As a geophysicist I professionally visited Bosnia and Herzegovina to assist in locating mass graves. I have seen and talked to relatives of those killed and I have witnessed excavations of mass graves. It is not me who is personally offended by a skull picture. I am simply considering the image of wikipedia in the light of my real life experience and trying to have some empathy for what it would be like for a relative to see this banner.
