Women Superstars Uncensored (often referred to simply as WSU) is an American, New Jersey based female independent professional wrestling promotion which held its first event on March 3, 2007.[1] Shows combine wrestling interspersed with both serious and comedic storylines.[2] The company tapes two DVDs worth of material during weekend shows. Although many of the shows are promoted solely by WSU, they have also worked with National Wrestling Superstars.[3]
Along with ChickFight and Shimmer Women Athletes, WSU is considered one of the top women's wrestling organizations in the United States.[4] The company claims to be "the leader in womens wrestling in the northeast" and to promote more cards than any other women's wrestling company in the country.[5]
Many members of the WSU roster have previously gained fame in other promotions, and their history has been worked into storylines. Tammy Lynn Sytch, who feuded with Dawn Marie Psaltis in Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1998,[6] resumed their rivalry in 2008 when they were brought together on a WSU card.[7]
In 2009, WSU created a hall of fame with an inaugural class of three members: former NWA World Women's Champion Malia Hosaka, three time AWA World Women's Champion Sherri Martel, and longtime valet Missy Hyatt.[8]
As of October 2009, the promotion has a working agreement with Dragon Gate USA.
Reception
Writing for Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Joe Babinsack stated that WSU offers a deep talent roster "without all the typical WWE related nonsense". He claimed that a match between Awesome Kong and Amy Lee had almost unsurpassed "inherent potential and deliverance".[2] In June 2009, Online World of Wrestling columnist Brad Dykens congratulated the promotion on their consistent "quality product".[9]
