Pierce House, Rochester, MN Photos

Finally scanned the images and placed them on our Flickr account under CC-By-SA-2.5. I did color correct them but unfortunately the slides are rather dirty. Ugh. Maybe it is something I can fix in the future. Myotus (talk) 15:30, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion requested on the use of SHPO sources

As you were at the meet-up at the Minnesota History Center, and an active member of the Minnesota WikiProject, I would like to ask you to please come and share your opinion on the use of certain sources that were found at the State Historic Preservation Office and whether or not they violate WP:RS or WP:OR in how they are being used. The discussion is taking place here. --Bobak (talk) 20:28, 4 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Biographical information policy proposal

I have proposed a change in policy at [[WT:BLP#Do we need a WP:BILP policy?]], it should explain what my motivation was. Also sent to some other people: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. <( User:Couch on his Head and Smiling (talk) )> 06:50, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Meetup signage

1) Do you need any additional puzzle globe Minnesota Meetup signs (maybe with arrows), and if you do, what sizes and how many of what type?
2) For the tenwiki Minnesota Meetup, I plan on printing one Loon & tenwiki. What size do you want?
CJLippert (talk) 23:35, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Happy holidays. It would be fun to go to the January event, but I have a prior commitment elsewhere in the Twin Cities that day. I will try my best to stop in, but I don't know for how long. As far as signs, I would say do what you think is best. Have you been to Brit's before? Jonathunder (talk) 04:45, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK. well then I will print 1 banner-sized Loon & TenWiki. I have been past Brit's but I have never stopped in. CJLippert (talk) 05:31, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I was wondering why you deleted the page Forest Mall. I was planning on adding a whole bunch of information to it, but now that you deleted it, I cannot do so. :-( Please respond to me at my talk page. Thanks again. Krause + AJ = Ingenuity 15:24, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Great to see you at the Wikipedia Tenth Anniversary Meet-up

Hi, Jonathunder,

I was glad you made it to the meet-up yesterday, and especially glad you made it there in such appropriately anachronistic dress. Thanks too for arranging the photograph. I've found some new sources for the source lists to share with wikipedians on some of the more controversial topics that are included in the encyclopedia, and I hope that any time you have suggestions for the source lists, or comments on my edits in the related articles, you will feel free to pass those along. Keep up the good work; see you on the articles. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 21:46, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey that's cool

I'm going to use that some time. SlightSmile 04:03, 19 February 2011 (UTC) [reply]

Error in posting photo

The photo you have posted as "Wilson Power and Light Company Icehouse 120 East Broadway West Memphis" is neither the correct title nor the correct address for the building you have listed. My building is listed on the National Register and includes a photo of a red brick building which is approximately three times the size of the building in your photo, and is much taller. The building in your photo is NOT of the "Wilson Power and Light Company Icehouse 120 East Broadway West Memphis".

Thank you for correcting this error. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jerbotim (talkcontribs) 02:08, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why?

Could you please explain this edit? Nikkimaria (talk) 03:01, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No. Kind regards. Jonathunder (talk) 22:44, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

licensing SilverLakeRPU.jpg

My name is Ruth Patton, and I'm the communications director for a nonprofit called Fresh Energy (www.fresh-energy.org). We advocate for smart energy and transportation policies in Minnesota and the Midwest.

We publish a print newsletter four times each year. I'd love to use your photo of the RPU Silver Lake Power Plant in our spring issue, due out at the end of the month. It would be for an article about progress toward implementation of Minnesota's clean energy policies.

May I use it? If so, how would you like the attribution to read?

The newsletter is mailed to about 800 of our members, distributed to publication racks at a number of venues throughout the Twin Cities, and made available at events where we're exhibiting.

Please let me know what you think!

<Grr.> More stupid bots. Does the obvious fact that the photo is from 1915 mean anything? <Grumble, grumble.> Jonathunder (talk) 22:43, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. To my surprise, the above was not a bot, but a human who failed the Turing test. Uffda. Jonathunder (talk) 22:56, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like Wikipedia needs a proof that the image is indeed taken in 1915. Please add the photographer and the source in the image and the image will be kept. --Sreejith K (talk) 07:01, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, Wikipedia needs proof the image was published in 1915. There is a large difference. Magog the Ogre (talk) 11:58, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

George Haven House Chatfield, Minnesota

Hello,

My name is Kelley Haven-Mills, my father is George Haven Jr.....he grew up in the house you have listed...his father of course was George Haven. My brother is George Haven III....I searched this house on a whim because I knew my Grandfather was a banker in Chatfield and from looking at pictures growing up, I knew it had to be a historical home. My mother..Lillian Collins-Haven was married to Geo Jr from 1972 until his death in 1994...

THank you!

Please feel free to click this link and add to the article. (I'm especially curious to see information about the wall behind the property.) Jonathunder (talk) 02:18, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Seal on the Minnesota article which you reverted.

I am replacing the locally uploaded seal from en.wikipedia back onto the article. The seal I uploaded locally was taken directly from the Website of the state, at this link as you would have noticed if you'd looked at the image details I uploaded with it. Should you wish to dispute this, please take it to the talk page of the article. Thank you. FishBarking? 03:23, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That link is broken. Moreover, what you added to the Minnesota article looks nothing like what we have on the state flag. Please don't add it again without much better documentation. Jonathunder (talk) 03:26, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies, wrong link. How's this for documentation? Put the seal back please, it's accurate. As I said, I'm sure the state knows what its own seal looks like. FishBarking? 03:32, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop changing my work. I AM using the official seal. The one the State uses on its own website, clearly marked as the State Seal. Which bit of State Seal do you not get? FishBarking? 03:43, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Did you read what you linked? There are lots of versions floating around, including on state websites, but "a seal, impression, scene, or likeness which does not conform to these provisions is not official." (M.S.A. 1.135) In what you linked, the pioneer is not barefoot, for one thing, let alone the godawful colors. Jonathunder (talk) 03:48, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, I was wrong. I just wish that when someone showed something like this on an official website, they'd use a copy of the proper seal rather than a messed up version which isn't technically official. Doesn't represent the state well if they can't even show their own seal properly :) Sorry. FishBarking? 04:01, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Jonathunder is correct. Here is the Secretary of State "Official" description. www.sos.state.mn.us/Modules/ShowDocument.aspx?documentid=6338 Cheers... Dinkytown talk 04:08, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dashed hyphens and mad dashes

Thank you for taking care of the speedy delete/move at Battles of the Mexican-American War. Please know it has been reverted by a user heavily involved in the discussion. If you'd rather I take this elsewhere, please advise accordingly.

--Born2cycle (talk) 03:31, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like the Battles of the Hyphen Wars have already been taken elsewhere. If have to squint at the screen to see which dash is being used, I really don't care who has the longest. Jonathunder (talk) 12:32, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Since Jonathunder was one of the supporters of the original proposal to move Mexican-American War to the hyphen form, the move that started this inconsistent mess, he can hardly be expected to mire himself more deeply in the present controversy. Dicklyon (talk) 05:47, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request for comment

This message is being sent to you because you have previously edited the Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) page. There is currently a discussion that may result in a significant change to Wikipedia policy. Specifically, a consensus is being sought on if the policies of WP:UCN and WP:EN continues to be working policies for naming biographical articles, or if such policies have been replaced by a new status quo. This discussion is on-going at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (use English), and your comments would be appreciated. Dolovis (talk) 17:09, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

One would think on the English language wikipedia a strong preference for English would be conventional. But thanks for the note; I'll try to have a look before the Rapture. Jonathunder (talk) 22:14, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to the Bacon Challenge 2012

Hello! You have been invited to take part in the Bacon Challenge 2012. In case you don't know or need a refresher, the Bacon Challenge is an annual celebration of bacon on Wikipedia in which editors come together to help create, expand, and improve Wikipedia's coverage of bacon. The event lasts all the way through National Pig Day 2012, giving participants plenty of time to work at their pleasure. In addition to the Bacon Challenge is the Bacon WikiCup 2012, a side event to the Challenge in which all bacon-related contributions done by those participating in the Challenge are submitted and scored by the scorekeeper (me) based on the scoring chart. At the end of the Challenge, the user with the most points in the Bacon WikiCup will win a shiny trophy for their userpage. In addition, the users who score the highest in specific categories (not yet finalized, but the categories include most image uploads, most article creations, most DYK submissions, and more) will win barnstars. Finally, all participants will receive a medal. While the awards are nice, in the end, the important thing is to have fun and enjoy what we're all here for, which is improving Wikipedia.

If you decide to participate, great! You may add your name to the participants list at the main page of the Bacon Challenge 2012, and pick up the userbox for your userpage if you desire. Signing up for the Challenge will also automatically enter you into the Bacon WikiCup. If you don't wish to participate, that's fine too - maybe next year! In the meantime, if you know anyone who might also be interested in participating, feel free to invite them! The Challenge is open to anyone and accepts participants at any time, so feel free to let anyone who might be interested know.

Note that I, the scorekeeper of the Bacon WikiCup, will be on vacation starting on the 18th of June all the way up until the 5th of July. I will have limited access to the internet, so I may or may not be able to score users' contributions during this time. Sorry for any delay in scoring (but since the Challenge lasts for more than half a year, there's no rush, right? (= ).

I'm looking forward to another fun, successful year. Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 22:56, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jonathunder

I am requesting clarification on the use of the jpg mentioned in the subject of this email. If allowed, it would be used in a brochure and on a website (not yet built) for a local (Northern California) beekeeper who sells her products in local farmer's markets and - in the future - on the internet.

Thank you.
