All Elite Wrestling, LLC,[2][3] d/b/a All Elite Wrestling (AEW), is an American professional wrestling promotion based in Jacksonville, Florida. The company was incorporated on July 17, 2018[4] by Cody Rhodes alongside The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) from The Elite faction, who are expected to serve as both on-screen performers and in backstage roles for AEW. The promotion will be financially funded by American football and soccer executives Tony Khan and Shahid Khan.[5] On January 1, 2019, Rhodes and The Young Bucks announced Double or Nothing, AEW's inaugural event, on their YouTube channel, Being the Elite. A press conference will be held on January 8 in Jacksonville, where further information on the promotion will be provided.[5]

History

In May 2013, a professional wrestling stable was formed in the Japanese promotion New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) called Bullet Club. Over the years, the stable's members and leadership evolved and from that emerged a sub-group of the stable known as The Elite, who officially formed in January 2016. Founding members of The Elite Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks were eventually joined by Cody in October 2018, who joined The Elite following a storyline which saw The Elite break away from Bullet Club and become its own standalone stable. The month before Cody joined The Elite in September 2018, he and The Young Bucks promoted and held a professional wrestling show called All In, which set out to and became the most attended professional wrestling show in the United States not affiliated with WWE since 1993. The aftermath of All In led to much online speculation that Cody and The Young Bucks would expand their ambitions and create their own professional wrestling promotion (with the All Elite Wrestling name heavily rumored). In November 2018, the then-rumored promotions details were officially trademarked. The official announcement of AEW's creation came on January 1, 2019, when The Young Bucks officially revealed the promotion on Twitter, which was built up to via a countdown clock which expired on 2019's New Years Day at midnight Pacific Time.
