Edit to Gus Johnson page

Please review my edits, the channel link was broken and 404'd. I have fixed the link and it now goes to his official channel. Also only changed the stats o reflect his current subscribers and views. 111.69.80.197 (talk) 09:26, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! The reason I reverted your edit to the Gus Johnson (comedian) article was because you did not cite or reference any reliable sources to verify that the changes you made were accurate and true. If you'd like to update the information in the article, you just need to locate a reliable source that supports and verifies the new information, then cite it along with your changes to the article. Please refer to the guideline pages that I've provided in my response here, as they will provide you with instructions and walkthroughs with how to do all of this. If you have any questions regarding this process, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. I hope you have a great rest of your day, and I wish you happy editing. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:02, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Does that channel being his official verified channel not count? And the fact that the link that was there went to a non-existent channel. Both his twitter, facebook and his creator page on the "Shorty Awards" all link back to that channel. There are no sources or citations for the broken link, hence the correction. 111.69.80.197 (talk) 10:08, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! Were these links and references already added and present on the article? If so, then please accept my apologies for missing this and for reverting your changes; please feel free to re-add the information you modified back to the article, and please don hesitate to let me know if you have any more questions of if I can do anything else to assist you. I hope you have a great day, and I wish you happy editing. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:17, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Two out of the three references already present support "gustoonz" being his official channel name/link. It seems the was an error when originally creating the page and his display name was used in place of his channel name, which is needed in order to create a link to the YouTube channel itself. 111.69.80.197 (talk) 10:22, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Like I said, so long as the information being changed is referenced, fine by me. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:56, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

submission for Bullyology

Hi Oshwah -

Can you tell me why my recent entry for Bullyology was deleted and what I need to do to fix it? Bullyology (talk) 13:03, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Bullyology:(talk page watcher) Looked promotional to me. Apart from Oshwah's advice, user:dlohcierekim/g11 is a message I leave that might be useful. DlohCierekim 13:08, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Bullyology - Dlohcierekim is correct; the page you created was deleted due to meeting G11 of the speedy deletion policy. Pages that are seen as blatant advertising will be deleted under this policy. If you need help with creating a page, I'd go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial, and then have the "your first article" wizard help you. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:00, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Page Deleted--Langston J. Dunham

Hey Oshwah,

What can I do in the future to not have my own page (Langston J Dunham ) deleted?

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Langston J Dunham (talkcontribs) 14:49, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Langston J Dunham, and welcome to Wikipedia! We're glad to have you here as an editor and contributor. Your user page was deleted because it met U5 of Wikipedia's speedy deletion criteria. In short, Wikipedia has policies regarding user pages, including what they're not to be used for. User pages need to be primarily focused on Wikipedia and improving the project. They're not supposed to contain your autobiography, content that's not Wikipedia-related, or anything that resembles a social network profile. See Wikipedia's policy sections that mention this here. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) I'm also willing to help you with anything you need - don't be afraid to ask! I hope you have a great day and I wish you happy editing. :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:08, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Is someone going to investigate the evidence regarding the sockpuppeteer which you redacted? 20:26, 13 March 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.7.156.132 (talk)

I'm not sure of what you're talking about exactly. Can you elaborate a bit more (maybe provide a link to the page you're referring to) so that I can answer your question and help you? Thanks! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:09, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bullyology

Hi -

I had previously created a submission using someone else's username and password (which I didn't realise was a no-no, and she didn't either). I would now like to re-submit this under my own username/password. I am not being paid for this, but do know the subject of this entry (the owner of the business Bullyology). I believe when I submitted the first time, it was deleted by you on the grounds of being unambiguous advertising. I would like to submit again, but have no idea which part has been dee,ed 'advertising' by Wikipedia. Can you clarify?

I'm new to Wikipedia, so not too familiar with the rules. Any help appreciated.

Cheers, Kevin Casey — Preceding unsigned comment added by KCasey55 (talkcontribs) 22:08, 13 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi KCasey55! The account you're using now (KCasey55) - does this belong to you and only you? Are you the only person who has access to this account? No one else knows your password but you, correct? If so, then you're fine and you can resubmit the draft article as you wish. :-) Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. I hope you have a great day and I wish you happy editing. :-D Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:11, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Continuation of Demographics of Mexico discussion

Greetings Oshwah, I was meant to reply in the section I opened weeks ago [1] but I see it's been archived, I couldn't reply sooner because I spent the last week abroad. As an answer to your reply [2] yes, I think I'd like your help to solve the conflict in the article, to which I've made some modifications today, firstly, I restored the data [3] that, as I have previously said, was removed by the opposing editor under claims that shouldn't have place in wikipedia (i.e. dark blond hair and green/light brown eyes not being white people's traits) and had nothing to do with the sources he was presenting, sencondly I reincorporated the text that produced the discussion with a disclaimer of being "under discussion" [4], thirdly I incorporated the claims of the opposing editor and his sources to the article [5], followed by my claims and my sources [6] (I believe the discussion is easier to follow this way, presenting the sources as they are, because if you look to the talk page, the replies of the opposing editor are enormous and very hard to follow through). I'd like that you help me monitor the evolution of this discussion and give your opinion about it in case the other editor becomes conflictive again, thanks in advance. Pob3qu3 (talk) 00:03, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pob3qu3! Thanks for responding and for following up. Please accept my apologies regarding the previous discussion we had becoming archived before you could respond - as you can imagine, my user talk page receives a lot of messages and requests for assistance. I have to archive discussions that appear to have gone stale so that it doesn't grow to a large size and make it hard for editors to read through it or respond to messages. I'm obviously no expert with the article subject or the topic area, but I'm more than happy to help mediate any disputes that are currently still ongoing. I took a look at the article's history page and I see that HueyXocoatzin hasn't edited it recently - is he/she still participating in any discussions with you? Are you two working things out? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:21, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. To answer your question yeah, seems like the discussion has died out, but if it ever reignites you can be sure I'll let you know. Pob3qu3 (talk) 03:28, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unexpected page deletion

I recently created biography page for Dr. Arya Veer Bhalla but unfortunately the page was deleted (U5: misuse of wikipedia as a web host). Please suggest me why such happened and suggest me ways to get rid of it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aryavirbhalla (talkcontribs) 07:27, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Aryavirbhalla: (talk page watcher) If I may be so bold, it had a number of problems. It was promotional in tone. It used wp:puffery. Please use user:dlohcierekim/g11 for information about that. It also did not meet user page requirements. Please see user:dlohcierekim/u5 for lots of info on that. To be an article, it would need content cited from reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and have a reputation for fact checking. Hope this helps. DlohCierekim 13:30, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Aryavirbhalla, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions and concerns. As Dlohcierekim pointed out in his response above, your user page was deleted under U5 of Wikpedia's speedy deletion criteria. In short, the content you added to your user page looked to be intended to advertise, promote, and host links to an organization and other content that was not Wikipedia-related. Please review and make sure that you understand Wikipeidia's policies and guidelines regarding user pages, as well as what they are not to be used for. The guideline page states that user pages are not to be used as a forum, resume, social networking profile, or web host or for purposes unrelated to Wikipedia's goals. Your user page clearly violated these guidelines, which was why your user page was deleted just earlier. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding Wikipedia's policies and guidelines on user pages, of if I can be of assistance with anything else - I'll be more than happy to help you. Thanks for the message, I hope you understand, and I wish you a great day and happy editing. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:23, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request page protection

Hallo, @Oshwah: please protect page of East Java, someone often vandals on infobox. Thanks; OktaRama2010 (talk) 17:29, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi OktaRama2010, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your request. I apologize for the delayed response; I was busy and I'm just now getting caught up with all of my Wikipedia messages, emails, pings, etc. :-) Looking at the article's edit history, it doesn't appear that page protection is necessary at this time. However, if you see disruption picking up and by multiple users and at a rate that is significantly high in rate, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll take another look. You should also file a request for page protection here in case I'm not around. You'll receive a quicker response that way if I happen to be idle. I hope you have a great day and I wish you happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:26, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sock

Hi Oshwah, who is Popping Inflatable Balls a sock of? I noticed Popping Inflatable Balls (V2) but don't know how to tag them. Can you take a look at 'em, please? Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 14:24, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cyphoidbomb! I took a look through the connected block logs and noticed that one of them was tagged as sock puppets of Caidin-Johnson. I originally thought that this was another one of Nsmutte's, Incorrigible Troll's, or My Royal Young's LTA attempts... but I might be wrong here. Let me know if you have any more questions or if I need to look further or into anything else for you, and I'll be happy to help. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:31, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting page protection

Hi Oshwah

A recent page called Remove Kebab is attracting persistent IP disruption and its becoming a magnant for people to express anti-Muslim sentiment [7], [8]. As the article touches on a aspect on the Christchurch shooting, IPs who are making changes are doing so on a WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS basis. Could you place the article under page protection? Hi Thatphatguy! Thanks for stopping by and saying hello! :-) I'm happy that you decided to join Wikipedia and edit with an account. Apart from just hiding your IP address from edits, having an account comes with many benefits, such as being able to be granted user rights and permissions. :-) Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything. I'll be more than happy to lend you a hand. ;-) I hope you have a great day and I wish you happy editing. Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:38, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe a Sockpuppet

Hello, while I was looking overList of Malayalam-language authors's revision history I came across 2 users (Midlaj Khan basheer) and (Midlaj Raza Khan) who have very similar names along with editing the same article within 2 hours of each other.

Is this enough to open an investigation? And if so how would I do that? Best, A 10 fireplane Imform me 18:36, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi A 10 fireplane! Great question. Seeing two accounts that have very similar usernames can certainly arouse suspicion. However, you should also see if there's any evidence of these user accounts being used in a manner that violate's Wikipedia's sock puppetry policy (a list of uses that would violate this policy can be found here). It's entirely possible that the same person just stopped using their first account and then created another account with a username they thought was better. That happens quite often, and it isn't a violation of policy to do that. However, if you see attempts to be deceptive, perform good-hand / bad-hand editing, evade blocks, warnings, sanctions, etc or use them in order to cause disruption together - then you can file a report at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations; just scroll down the page, expand the "how to open an investigation" instructions, and follow them carefully. These instructions will help do most of the hard work for you and create a report on a new page. Once this is done, you'll need to edit the page and fill in the information missing (again, read the instructions). If you run into any questions or get stuck anywhere, let me know and I'll be happy to help. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:44, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello I have reputable sources from the BBC

It is currently all over the news — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jay Rabadia (talkcontribs) 19:23, 11 February 2019 (UTC) [reply]

Jay Rabadia - When adding content like this to articles (that's controversial, contentious in nature, or if it contains any information beyond common knowledge), you must locate reliable sources and cite them in-line with the content you're adding. This assures that the content you're adding is accurate and true. On another note, the content you're adding appears to violate Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. It contains words like "cash-strapped" and "financial crisis", and uses specific words and phrases that make the text appear to take a certain viewpoint or imply commentary or inject opinion; this isn't allowed, and we must write content that's neutral and doesn't appear to take a side. If you have any questions regarding the policies I've linked you to here, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. Thanks for the message, and I wish you a great rest of your day and happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:50, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Beanfield

Hi, I see you've reverted, but it doesn't make any sense to me. That section isn't really much of a background to the events of Beanfield, the opening paragraphs already do that well enough. Instead, it goes back to some general history of free festivals which is already covered at [[9]], therefore isn't entirely appropriate again here I would have thought Altcurrents (talk) 18:56, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've re-written to a much more shorter, succinct Background section - it really does not need a regurgitating of what's already on the Stonehenge Free Festival article here, but have kept enough to 'set the scene'. Removed a ref which wasn't entirely accurate and that image - my plan is to upload some new images shortly to improve this article. Hope this is acceptable. Altcurrents (talk) 19:23, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Altcurrents! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your explanation of your edits. My revert here on Battle of the Beanfield was in response to your edit here that removed an entire section from the article with the edit summary stating that the content was repeated and already stated in the article's summary paragraph. I definitely understand why you removed the content, and I completely believe that you did this in good faith and believing that you were improving the article - so no worries! You're taught here to be bold and edit what you think should be improved. Mistakes made in good faith are completely normal; just listen to the feedback you receive and don't take offense if an edit is reverted (like in this situation). The reverts and the feedback are there to help you. :-)
Just know that articles on Wikipedia that are written properly contain a summary paragraph that does exactly what you removed the content for: It's supposed to summarize the information that's been added to the body of the article. This, as well as other editing guidelines, are detailed on Wikipedia's manual of style page (specifically, the article layout manual). If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia and I hope you have a great day. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:58, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Okay, sounds good - feel free to search for reliable sources and then cite them in-line with the content you're adding to the article. So long as you do this and that your edits are made in good faith and with the intentions of improving the encyclopedia, then you'll be just fine and you shouldn't run into any problems. It would probably be better for another admin to review your request and make that decision instead of having me do it. Since we interact very frequently, having me do this wouldn't be appropriate or fair. It could incorrectly give off the image to other editors and be misinterpreted as me playing favorites with certain users over others, and/or that I'm willing to hand out user rights to editors who I "favor" or just because they ask me to. This way, you'll receive an evaluation that's honest and fair and from an admin who will give an objective analysis. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:43, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I made edits anonymously about the nutrient content (forgot my password - i know not an excuse!). The original and reverted wording is serious cherry picking of the original article Barański et al (2017). The text suggests their principal finding is that 'These studies generally suffer from confounding variables,' whereas their principal finding was as I indicated: for many parameters, organic produce is superior to conventional produce. Martingoodson (talk) 22:47, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Martingoodson! Thanks for leaving me a message and for letting me know. How many anonymous edits did you make on this article? Was it just this edit? Or are there more? I'm asking so that I can suppress your IP information for you and keep that information secure and private, and not accidentally suppress an edit by an IP that you didn't make. Let me know ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:03, 18 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you yes. This was the only edit. I was looking for information on the topic and realised there was a the disparity between the meta-analysis paper and the text. Martingoodson (talk) 08:01, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Martingoodson! Thanks for responding and for letting me know. I've suppressed the IP address for you so that this information is private and can't be seen by anyone. The reason I reverted your edit was because I felt that didn't adhere to Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy by calling the strength of given evidence, "good or moderate that, for many parameters, organic produce is superior to conventional produce". I felt that this was an injection of opinion or commentary, which implies and presents a certain point of view. Feel free to edit and update the article and improve it if there are issues; I just wanted to address the neutrality concern that I saw. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. Thanks again for the messages, and I wish you a great rest of your day. :-) Happy editing! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:09, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oshwah. You blocked these accounts per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Lilit'sassistent/Archive which means that Draft:tokionine and also File:Tokionine.jpg probably also should be deleted as well since it's unlikely that the person beyond the socking is ever going to be unblocked or able to try and resolve the problems with the draft and the file. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:37, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Marchjuly! Thanks for the message and for your thoughts regarding the draft page and the image that the blocked user uploaded and created. I'm going to leave them be, as deleting them requires a valid criterion for speedy deletion to do so (I couldn't come up with any on the top of my mind that would be okay to use). Worst case scenario, the draft and the image will both wind up deleted due to being abandoned and having no license / copyright information provided. If you find a valid CSD to tag each page with, please do so and then let me know so I can take a look. ;-) Thanks again for the message, and I hope you have a great day! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:47, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. The image possibly could be tagged per WP:F9, but it will be deleted in a day or so regardless; the draft, however, will take longer before it's deleted per WP:G13 so maybe WP:MFD would be a good idea instead. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:55, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Marchjuly - Yeah, the image will be gone soon; no need to worry about what's going to happen to it. ;-) The draft, however, will take longer to be deleted per G13 (as you correctly pointed out). I agree that MFD might be the way to go if you believe that it should be deleted sooner. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:00, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Toastmasters

Thank you for your thorough investigation, I know you were just being cautious and doing your "job." However, since the article was deleted via AfD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alex Kuch) and likely recreated by an UPE, should it now be moved to a draft? HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 06:00, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HickoryOughtShirt?4! Thanks for the message! I appreciate that you understand that I have to make absolute sure that what I'm doing is the right thing before I do so - especially when it comes to blocking or performing other admin tasks. :-) The article doesn't seem to have expanded much upon the previous article that was deleted following the AFD, so I went ahead and deleted it per G4. Please let me know if I can do anything else for you and I'll be happy to help. Thanks again, and I hope you have a great rest of your day. :-) Happy editing - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:05, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Oshwah,

My Name is Vatsal Vyas and I am from the AGS Transact Technologies Ltd Marketing team.

Hi there, and thanks for leaving me a message here. The account has been blocked due to the username being a violation of Wikipedia's username policy. For the account to be unblocked, you need to log into the account, navigate to the user's talk page, and follow the instructions provided in the block notice to request the account be renamed to something else. Once you've done this, I can rename the account and unblock it for you. Make sure that you log into the account; you can't request an unblock unless you're logged in. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:23, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for unblocking me

Thanks Oshwah, do you know why I was met with something like "This username is too similar with Connie hammond" when I tried to register as "Connie Hammond"? That would have avoided being banned in the first place. Did such account exist already and I was reassigned the username? Not important I guess, just trying to understand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Connie Hammond (talkcontribs) 20:16, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Connie Hammond! Welcome back! You're very welcome; I'm glad I could help resolve the matter and make sure that your username was in compliance with policy. Good question! You received this error when trying to register your account with the "Connie Hammond" username because another account already exists with a username similar to yours ("Connie hammond", with a lower-case 'H' spelled in the last name). To prevent impersonation, abuse, confusion, and other issues, Wikipedia will disallow the creation of an account if it's similar to another (such as in this situation). However, the other account was registered many years ago and has made no edits... so I went ahead and overrode this restriction when I changed your username for you. In short, you have nothing to worry about and you'll be able to use this account under your current username without any issues. If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask - and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. :-) Happy editing! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:22, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please help to stop an edit war in Merge sort

It all broke out when a user removed an illustration (special:Diff/887750333), which has been there for about 13 years (see Special:Permalink/91583531#Analysis). His edit summary seemed untrue and confusing to me, so I asked him for some explanation for his action (User talk page#Merge sort). He gave a reply at Talk:Merge_sort#animation which I do not comprehend. Anyway, I don't think the removal makes a big harm, whether justified or not, so I just left the talk.

However, some other user seems to think the image was important, and reinstated it (Special:Diff/888502969) improving the caption at the same time (Special:Diff/888502969) to explain what aspect of the algorithm it depicts. The remover removed the image again, even though he has declared before:

if you really think it's better to include, then feel free to put it back; I won't continue to object.

Neither my level of English nor my mediating skills entitle me to intervene in this conflict (the more so because I initially have been on one side of the barricade, even though there was no barricade yet at the time). Could you, please, ask both parties to stop wasting their time for warring and resolve the conflict in a civilized manner? --CiaPan (talk) 23:30, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that was REALLY fast! :) CiaPan (talk) 23:33, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi CiaPan! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns and your request for help. I obviously can't cite my personal experience and career (since it would be original research), but I can definitely tell you that the .gif animation removed from the article absolutely depicts a merge sort. ;-) From the image, you can see that the algorithm divides the list of numbers into smaller sub-groups, sorts them, and then sorts the larger sub-groups up until the entire list is sorted. I believe that his response to you is simply stating that the animation doesn't show what he believes should be. I don't agree, but my opinion is irrelevant when acting as a neural party and purely in an administration role. From there, Jrheller1 restores the image, then Deacon Vorbis reverts the restoration, and things go back-and-forth from there....
I've applied full protection to the article and will apply it to any other articles that this edit war is affecting, and I'll be warning both users involved in regards to edit warring and following Wikipedia's dispute resolution protocol to discuss the dispute and come to a consensus. Please let me know if I can do anything else for you, and I'll be happy to do so. Please don't hestitate to let me know if you see any other articles or pages that this dispute is affecting and I'll be happy to take a look and handle it. :-) Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great rest of your day. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:42, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Osh! Thank you for all the precise explanation, both on the image in question and on actions you took. AFAIR, I did not reveal my professional experience at Wikipedia, too, but ...with decades[The exact number available via e-mail on request.] spent on computer programming I have no problems with interpreting and understanding the dot-cloud illustrations of sorting algorithms. My question to Deacon was not 'what does the animation depict' but rather 'why do you think it's not what all belive it is'. I know the image is correct, and I think it is appropriate in the article. Anyway, if it is any problem for User:DV, I would let him have the image deleted. It wouldn't harm much.
I'm not happy though to see edit warring on such detail, and that's why I turned to you. Just for moderation. Thank you once again - and yes, be sure I know where to find you, should I ever need any administrative help again! Good day, good night. It's 1:30 AM here, time to go to bed. --CiaPan (talk) 00:27, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
CiaPan - You bet; always happy to help. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:54, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • The animated image conflicts with the algorithms presented in the article. What the animation depicts is a merge sort implemented using a queue instead of a stack (recursion). A queue based implementation results in a breadth first repeated splitting of the array until the size of runs is reduced to 1 element per run. The queue approach is not normally done because the queue space complexity is O(n), and the queue approach is not mentioned anywhere in the article. A stack approach is depth first, left first: the array split in two, the left half split in two, the left quarter split in two, ..., then and only when the leftmost two runs of size 1 are produced does the merge process begin, following the stack chain up and dawn in a depth first, left first order. A simpler fix would be to show a bottom up approach. In one step, the initial array is separated into n runs of size 1 (this is really not a step, as the array is just treated as n runs of size 1 without any actual data manipulation), then typically even and odd runs are merged in breadth first order. This would only require removing the intermediate split steps shown in the animation. Rcgldr (talk) 21:40, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sock?

Hi,

Could this user be a sock of Caidin-Johnson you reckon? Thanks. Adam9007 (talk) 23:47, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adam9007! What exactly makes you suspect or believe that this account is a sock puppet of Caidin-Johnson? More information would help me to be able to take a look. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:50, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
He uses usernames related to Bugs Bunny a lot. Adam9007 (talk) 23:51, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Adam9007 - Ah... I figured that was the reason, but I wanted to ask in case you had other information as well. I've seen LTA and troll accounts created lately that depicted Loony Tunes characters and what-not, so I wouldn't be surprised if you were correct. What I can tell you is that this account has no deleted edits or anything that you can't see. This account (as of right now) hasn't made any edits or tripped any filters or logs. Let's keep an eye on this account's edits, logs, and filter logs; if you start to see any shenanigans begin, let me know and I'll take a look and take what actions are needed. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:54, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It's begun! Adam9007 (talk) 00:26, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Adam9007 - Heh, that didn't take long... I may not be sure if the user is a sock as you asked about, but I'm definitely sure that this user isn't here to help us... So it's been indef'd. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:35, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Thanks for the new user rights and thanking my revert. It is definitely helpful. Mynamemeansnothing (talk) 00:03, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mynamemeansnothing! You're welcome. :-) Keep up the good work; you're doing a great job. Continue to do what you're doing and don't fall into any trouble, and in a month or so (after you've made an established amount of reverts, warnings, and reports at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism) I'll make you a rollbacker. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:08, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Learning the ropes!

Hi! I just wanted to thank you for your kind words on my talk page earlier, and thought I'd ask for some advice on how I can better combat vandalism. So far I've been using Twinkle and following the recent changes page, but I'd love to know if there's anything I can improve / any way I can get more involved. Vwilding (talk) 00:04, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vwilding! You're very welcome! I'm happy that my message earlier brought you happiness and encouragement. Excellent question! The page on recent changes patrolling is a great start. Since you have Twinkle installed, the top half of the page won't be very useful since Huggle handles what it's detailing for you automatically. However, the bottom half of the page is extremely useful and provides a ton of great information and links that you'll find to your liking. You should also check out this page as well as this one; both are lists of all the different tools, applications, and scripts that you can enable and use to help make patrolling and removing vandalism much easier.
What tool or page do you use to monitor changes and find edits that may be vandalism? When I was new to patrolling for vandalism, I used Lupin's Anti-vandal Tool (now a very old tool that's mostly forgotten) to list the changes that were likely vandalism. Look through those pages and find a tool to do this and that you're comfortable with and feel is easy for you to use. Another good place to browse through is the counter-vandalism unit page, which will contain a great deal of good information as well. Once you get comfortable with patrolling and reverting vandalism, and you've been making consistent good reverts, warnings, and adding good reports to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism - you'll be able to request and be granted additional user rights, which allow you to patrol, monitor, edit, and handle disruption in even more places and areas.
For now, just give those pages a read, and let me know if you have any questions about them. I'm happy to help, I have the ability to edit your .js and .css pages (so if you need help with installing a script, let me know), and can assist with anything you need; just message me and ask. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:33, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

RevDel, please

Found this [10] little nugget, could you possible rev-delete it? Mynamemeansnothing (talk) 00:10, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mynamemeansnothing!  Done. Next time you need to report any edits that need rev del or suppression, email those to me instead; you don't want to post them on Wikipedia publicly. As an example: My user talk page (this page) is currently on 924 editors' watchlists, which allows them to immeditately know when someone has made an edit to it. If you know about the Streisand effect, users who see your edit pop up on their watchlist and notice that you're making a revision deletion request will quickly run to the edit diff you provided so they can view it before it becomes hidden to them. We want to avoid this as much as possible, which is why all rev del and oversight requests need to be emailed privately. ;-) No worries though; I handled it quickly, and it's not a big deal. Thanks for the message and for the request, and please don't hesitate to let me know if you run into any more edits that need to be redacted. I'll be happy to do so. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:20, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again,

I'm pretty sure this is in the wrong place, but not sure enough to boldly move it. I assume it's meant to be in the creator's userspace. Can drafts have subpages? Should I just leave it? Thanks. Adam9007 (talk) 03:27, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adam9007! Generally, no... draft pages should not have sub-pages, since they're supposed to be put together in the same manner that live articles are (just in a different namespace and with "Draft:" at the beginning of the title). ;-) It looks like the user accidentally.... He must've..... umm.... yeah, he messed up somehow.... LOL. It's formatted and written almost as if it's an article, and it's in the draft space.... but the content is clearly worded as if this is supposed to be this editor's user page. It's like two creations got morphed into one and then somehow cast into the abyss, which we're seeing now.... Weird.... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:32, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There are plenty of similar pages in userspace. There's a course by the University of Sydney going on, so there are a lot of new editors doing similar things. Adam9007 (talk) 03:34, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Adam9007 - Ah! Okay, I think this is a test/pre-draft page created by the user. On the editor's user page, he/she indicates being in a class titled "OLES2129" (which is path of that sub-page title), and I see other edits the user has made that appear to be test edits as well. Same thing probably goes with other users in the same class. I think we should just leave things where they are, and leave a message on the user's talk page and ask if they need help. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:37, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I sent them the standard student's welcome if that's any good? All other 'OLES2129/draft' pages I've seen are in userspace. Adam9007 (talk) 03:39, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Adam9007 - Good enough for me! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:39, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

IP Address

Hi again,

Is there any way of knowing whether [[REDACTED - Oshwah] this] was in fact Nche9147? If it was, should the IP address be hidden? Cheers. Adam9007 (talk) 03:50, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again,Adam9007! Long time no chat! ;-) Given that the page was created and edited only by this user and for his class / assignment, I'd say that the IP user is almost certainly Nche9147 and I went ahead and suppressed the IP address. Next time you need to report any edits that may need rev del or suppression, email those to me instead; you don't want to post them on Wikipedia publicly. As a perfect example that applies here: My user talk page is currently on the watchlist of 924 editors, and if you know about the Streisand effect, users who see your edit here and notice that you're making a revision deletion request will quickly run to the edit diff you provided so they can view it before it becomes hidden to them. We want to avoid this as much as possible, which is why all rev del and oversight requests need to be emailed privately. ;-) No worries though; I handled it quickly, so we should be okay. Thanks for the message and for bringing the edit to my attention so that I could take care of it. ;-) Please don't hesitate to let me know if you run into any more edits that need to be redacted and I'll be happy to take a look. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:58, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Greensborough college page recent protection mistake

Hello, I requested protection for a school page not long ago (not under this account but I had to make one to talk here) after an ongoing edit war with what is more than likely students of the school. Our Social media, Wikipedia page and even website have been constantly bombarded with trolls, fake negative reviews and in general things that will hurt the reputation of our college and it is getting hard to keep under control.

The problem we are most concerned about in regards to the Wikipedia page is the editing of the principals name. It’s been through several stages of trolling over the past few months but has largely increased very recently. Recently it has been being changed to the name of a principal (Pauline Barker) who worked at the school for a few weeks but was fired quickly after making seriously offensive comments directed towards children that I would prefer not to go into for obvious reasons. This became a popular ‘joke’ amongst the students of our school and we have received many negative reviews and edits to this page because of it. Just for clarification, the principal of the school at this point in time is Ryan Shields, although this is likely to change in the near future.

Annoyingly, it appears a troll managed to edit the page before it was locked, as the name Pauline Barker is currently still on the page. As I am no longer able to edit the page due to the lock, I was hoping you could assist in the change, as having that name stuck there for good will likely be quite harmful to the schools reputation, as the public opinion of this person is far from positive.

If it matters, we are currently working on identifying and punishing those who are purposefully ruining the schools reputation online.

Thank you for your cooperation, hopefully you understand the situation we are dealing with at the moment. Hopefully I commented in the right place to fix this. Thank you very much

Doppelgänger account

Hi Oshwah! Please create a doppelgänger account named S49S for me. Due to technical reason I couldn't create this account. Thanks. ~SS49~ {talk} 10:25, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SS49! Sure, not a problem. The best way for me to do this for you and in the fastest way is to have you go to this page, and follow the instructions and fill out the form to request an account - just put in the comment field that Oshwah sent you here and that you're requesting this as a doppelgänger. Once you do this, respond to me here with the ACC Request ID# that's emailed to you. From there, I can just navigate straight to your request, create the account for you, and have it registered under your email and other information automatically. Then you'll have total control of the doppelgänger account and with much less risk of it somehow becoming compromised. Can you do this for me? Let me know if you get stuck anywhere and I'll be happy to help. :-) Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:04, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
[ACC #261095] I had requested this few days ago and it is still pending so I couldn't request again. Thanks. ~SS49~ {talk} 12:44, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
SS49 - Oh perfect! I'll handle this request now and get you set up. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:59, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
SS49 - You're all set! I've created the account for you and emailed you its temporary password, redirected its user and user talk pages to your main account, and blocked it as a registered doppelgänger for security purposes since it won't ever actually be used for anything at all. You just need to log into the account, change the password to something strong, and confirm the email address in Special:Preferences so that the account is linked to your email; I've taken care of everything else for you. Please let me know if I help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to do so. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:09, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Very sorry to seem impatient and demanding but this is a problem that we need fixed as soon as possible and ive noticed you’ve been online but not responding to my two messages.

If I am getting something wrong and you aren’t able to respond to them I am super sorry but please understand that I am really I need of a resolution to this problem and at the moment it would appear my messages have not come through or are being ignored.

This is in relation to the Greensborough college editing ‘wars’ which have been occurring. I am hoping to get proof into you as early as tomorrow but as soon as a solution can be reached the better, as this is a time in which our reputation needs to be perfect.

Please note that in your original reply, you stated that I was repeatedly changing the Wikipedia to something it was not supposed to be (Pauline Barker to Ryan Shields). But actually, the correct name, Ryan Shields has been in place for months, before the recent trolling began. I was only reverting the edits of the trolls, not changing what was supposed to be there.

Hopefully you understand and we can get this changed as soon as possible. If you have the time, please read through my three messages to get a full idea of the situation.

Once again, terribly sorry to be rude but this is extremely important to our school.

Dear Chris Talton, even though I used to assume good faith when interacting with new Wikipedia users, I still have more confidence in what Victoria State Education Department says than you as semi-anonymous individual – and you can see what they say here:
https://www.education.vic.gov.au/findaservice/SchoolDetails.aspx?ID=DD676791-2F92-DE11-B28C-002185CD8E14
So please kindly ask the State Govt to update their records, then Wikipedia can fix its article based on official data.

There's also the schools webpage at [11]. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:04, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, now I saw this [12]. ChrisTalton2, I'm afraid we're stuck atm. The school webpage and the government webpage are "published" per WP:RELIABLE SOURCES, and that is something we feel strongly about (when we notice we should, anyway). A new newsletter on this page would be ok too, I think. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:34, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@ChrisTalton2 and Gråbergs Gråa Sång: Here's yet another source: the recent Greensborough Focus, Issue 3, 08 March 2019 with a Principal's Report in it, signed by ...Ms Pauline Barker, Principal. --CiaPan (talk) 11:53, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's why I asked for a new one. But who knows, though the internet seems to know nothing atm, perhaps there will be newspaper articles in a while. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:59, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've checked randomly some older issues of Greensborough Focus, and I found Ms Barker has been signing the Principal's column since Issue 1, 10 Feb 2017 — so it is a pure misinformation that she “worked at the school for a few weeks but was fired quickly”... --CiaPan (talk) 12:04, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(Oshwah, thank you for bearing with me. And I promise to not extend this thread any more, IMHO we gathered enough evidence for a judgement or action, if any appears necessary. CiaPan (talk))
CiaPan - HA! I don't care if you extend it. ;-) If the discussion is necessary... or even if it's just providing you and others with humor, fun, or needed time away from stressful and tough issues or discussions - I don't have any problem with it at all... (so long as it's positive in nature and not being disrespectful or uncivil to others, of course) :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:38, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi ChrisTalton2, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns. I understand that this is an urgent matter to you, and I apologize for the delay responding to your messages here. Unfortunately, there are times where I cannot respond to messages on my user talk page right away - usually because I have urgent matters and high priority tasks on my plate that need my full and immediate attention, or because I'm currently assisting another editor with their requests for help. In these cases, I simply ask for your patience and understanding; I'm more than happy to assist you once I've finished with the tasks currently in front of me. :-) As CiaPan and Gråbergs Gråa Sång have both pointed out above and with numerous references and sources, there appears to be no verifiable reliable sources or evidence to show that Ryan Shields is the current president of the school; every source that's been found and listed here, in the article, and on its talk page - all state in one way or another that Pauline Barker is the current president. If this information is incorrect, you should contact the school, point the sources and information out to them, and request them to update it (as also explained above by CiaPan and Gråbergs Gråa Sång). Until reliable sources show that the president of the school has in-fact changed, the information in the article will remain as-is. On an encyclopedia, hands-down and 100% of the time: it's always better to have information that's out-of-date but well-sourced, verifiable, and accurate at the time of its writing, than to have any information or content in an article that's unverified, poorly-referenced, inaccurate, or false. This is why you're seeing the responses by other editors in the manner that you are. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. Thanks for the message, I hope that you understand, and I wish you a great day and happy editing. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:35, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
CiaPan, Gråbergs Gråa Sång - Whelp, that sucks.... lol. This user has just been checkuser blocked as a sock puppet. All that time and effort put into researching and responding to this editor... Oh well! Heh, I guess that's why there were no sources to support the user's claims... probably because they weren't true at all. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:17, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I knew that. I have noticed the 'Ryan Shields' surname misspelled along with other obvious fun-vandalism in a single edit by some IP-editor. Didn't bother to point that out, though, as I was more interested in verifying Pauline Barker is in the position than that Ryan Shields is not. --CiaPan (talk) 13:26, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
A good example of WP:s immunesystem working as it should, then. We have valiantly and righteously defended Pauline Barker's position as principal, and can be content with that. Now, should we consider deleting that article? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:12, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding my last edit for Qazi Tauqeer

Hi Oshwah, You Have a nice name between i am a huge fan of osho.. i wanted to make some changes to his article but i could feel some typo problem but while correction some error occurred and could not edit it properly ...due to some improper logarithm and change of him being a singer was changed because in a show he was not a singer but of course an aspiring and learner ...

Thanks for being on the other side to correct the error

I was just looking up Richard saucedo (composer)’s bio. According to the article, he died last weekend. Except he is, at this very moment, conducting in Pittsburgh. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1016:B023:2F93:4457:E9FC:625A:F6DC (talk) 18:10, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page watcher) Looks like vandalism added here on March 15, the day before he supposedly died. Anyway the article has lots of issues, and may not meet BLP for an article. - BilCat (talk) 18:36, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The same IP also added that he died on February 3, 2019! The IPs only edits have been to this page, but other IPs have vandalized in the same timeframe. It might be a good idea to semi-protect it for a while. Im also considering an AFD, as the only source is a bio page on his employer's website. - BilCat (talk) 18:46, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Would you mind redacting 2601:180:103:AA4E:560:16EF:1000:30B7 (talk · contribs · WHOIS)'s edits on Adrien Broner? I saw that you redacted some other edits on that page earlier. Clear egregious BLP violations. Thanks. 78.101.191.112 (talk) 06:44, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done. :-) Next time you need to report any edits that need rev del or suppression, email those to me instead; you don't want to post them on Wikipedia publicly. We want to avoid this as much as possible, which is why all rev del and oversight requests need to be emailed privately. ;-) No worries though; I handled it quickly, so it's very unlikely that other editors viewed it. Thanks for the message and for the request, and please don't hesitate to let me know if you run into any more edits that need to be redacted. I'll be happy to do so. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:56, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Query on how to add the correct "tags" for the uploaded file - Ashley Artus Wiki Profile pic.jpg for the Wiki page - Ashley Artus

Hi Oshwah

Just messaging again as not heard back from you ?

Unless you're on holiday or something ?

Being a newbie & understanding how everything works in Wiki...some things I am having a problem with understanding what steps to take next...

So...the pic was uploaded & as far as I can tell it has been accepted (I think? not sure)

So I understand that I have to put the correct "Copyright tags" in for the pic...

This is where I am stuck !!

Its saying that I need to put the tag in on the "File Description page" but I'm not sure what/where that is ? Is it the Ashley Artus Wiki Profile pic.jpg page?

It also says "Please copy the URL of this image or article in the email to assist OTRS volunteers to find it. If an email cannot be found in the OTRS system, the content may be deleted for lack of valid licensing information."

I did send a message the other day (about a week ago)...but have not received any reply ?

Apologies if you have been busy, but I could really do with getting this last part of the page sorted as then it will be finished !

Look forward to hearing from you,

Andy

David Cone Edit Battle

Oshwah, just a heads up that someone has reversed your reversal of an edit to the "Retirement" section of David Cone's page. This is actually the latest in a series of edits and reversals for this section, and always the same changes - removing all references to Cone's eldest son Brian, and revisions concerning Cone's fiancé, Taja Abitbol. I noticed this change/reversal in January, and the process keeps repeating itself every few weeks. Different IP addresses each time. Not sure if this is trolling, or personal/family issues for David Cone. I sent a message to one of the IP addresses, noting that this change could be hurtful to the involved parties if not verified. No response. Fm451 (talk) 05:16, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
