Move protection

Hi Oshwah, could look at move-protecting CBS All Access, preferably for Page Movers and above? CBS All Access is supposed to be rebranded as Paramount+ on March 4, and I've already had to page-swap it back today. (I'm a page mover, but if you think a higher level is warranted, that's OK too.) Thanks. BilCat (talk) 03:55, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi BilCat! I can only move-protect it like I could edit-protecting - so either from autoconfirmed users, extended confirmed users, template editors, or administrators. I can't restrict move editing to page movers, unfortunately... I'm going to hold off on protecting it for now, since the move has only happened once. However, if it does continue and become disruptive, let me know and I'll take another look. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:00, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Ah, ok, I didn't realize that. Extended-confirmed would probably be better than nothing, as they're. generally more experienced. BilCat (talk) 04:05, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
BilCat - Yeah, but there are ArbCom rules with extended confirmed protection. I don't think that this situation would warrant that level of protection. I have to follow the rules, and I don't think I'd be in compliance of policy if I were to establish that level of protection... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:08, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
That's why I'm not an admin, among many other reasons - I can't remeber all the all the restrictions! It's too bad though, because I'm pretty sure it's going to happen again before the fourth. Thanks anyway. BilCat (talk) 04:20, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
BilCat - You're welcome! :-) I wouldn't worry about it too much... it's going to change in a couple of days. If anything, the new title will be accurate. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:23, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Chris Conley of Saves The Day

Oshwah can you change the age of the singer Chris Conley of Saves The Day from 40 to 41. He was born February 29th 1980. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DefLeppardRules (talkcontribs) 06:13, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi DefLeppardRules! The template should automatcally update the age. I went ahead and made a null edit to the article, and the age updated to be 41. Please let me know if I can do anything else for you. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:36, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Possible WP:IUC

Hi Oshwah! This evening, I reverted two edits by the IP 121.121.132.208 on Gregory Peck - they then attempted to leave a pretty disturbing edit on my user page, which was blocked by an edit filter. While its obviously a provocation of frustration, its one of the more serious WP:IUC comments I've received. I was hestitant to approach an admin about this behavior bc it's a. not in the mainspace b. part of an edit filter, which can report false positives and c. not a repeated act of vandalism, which likely lessens the probability of further aggression - but I figure better safe than sorry. Do you think it warrants any action? Thanks again and have a wonderful week, sorry to trouble you.--Bettydaisies (talk) 07:46, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Bettydaisies! No apologies are needed. I'm more than happy to help, and I'm glad that you came to me for assistance. I've warned the user for the edit they tried to make make on your user page, and I've gone ahead and added indefinite semi-protection on your user page from both editing and moving. This should stop future vandalism from new and anonymous users. If this kind of disruption continues from this IP address, please let me know and I'll be happy to step in and put a kibosh to it. I'm sorry that you received that kind of harassment. Rest assured, I don't tolerate it, and I'm happy to step in and stop it should it keep happening. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:41, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

They are still indulging in sock puppetry and being disruptive

Following this they are still using their sock account @Upnepa to move war after the article was draftified for overt Coi reasons, If it’s not too much to ask could a block be implemented on both accounts to stop this disruption? Celestina007 (talk) 17:02, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Celestina007 -  Done. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:54, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, on that note Kambai Akau got autoblocked because of that. Normally I'd leave that be, however if I remember correctly the master was previously autoblocked, which raises a suspicion that they may be on a public connection and this account was blocked as collateral damage Pahunkat (talk) 14:59, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Actually, I'm more suspicious of the user that declined the unblock request after taking a closer look - that's their third edit to decline the request... Pahunkat (talk) 15:01, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Pahunkat - My sincere apologies! I didn't realize until just now that you added information to this message. Are you saying that Kambai Akau was autoblocked due to my block on Upnepa? Which user declined what unblock request? Where? Can you provide a diff for me? I'm confused... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:46, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Hello Oshwah, no worries - everything seems to be sorted out. Your block of Mondayudowong caused Kambai Akau to be autoblocked (see here). Mondayudowong was previously autoblocked so I was concerned that this may be a public IP - but they seem to be able to edit now. However, the unblock request was declined by a user on their third edit, and this user seems to have been CU blocked by Maxim :-) Pahunkat (talk) 22:13, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

SPI archive

Hi Oshwah. There seems to be an issue with the lack of page history at this SPI and its archive. Since you last deleted it as part of a merge, would you mind taking a look? Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:06, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Zzuuzz! Weird... I'm not sure what happened, but I bet you the restore timed out when the script was running to move content to the archive. I couldn't even restore everything in one batch; I had to restore the revisions in groups so that it wouldn't time out. Anyways, should be  Fixed now. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:34, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Potential topic ban violation

Hello Oshwah. I am a file mover on Wikimedia Commons and came across this move request made by someone who was recently topic banned from Kurds and Kurdistan. The topic ban prohibits all edits related to Kurds and Kurdistan. I am questioning whether this still counts as a violation because it was made on another wiki. This user had a issue with POV pushing and that is what exactly the request is here. For now I have left that request alone. If this is a violation could it be reported? ETI 15TrSF (Chat Box) 21:55, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Eti15TrSf! Bans and other formal editing restrictions on the English Wikipedia apply only to the English Wikipedia. Our "jurisdiction" lies only within this project, and edits and actions off of the English Wikipedia or completely off-wiki can't be controlled or enforced by us (though it can certainly be used as evidence if it has relevance or bearing). If the user is requesting a move to an image on Commons that directly affects an article on the English Wikipedia that falls under the requestor's topic ban, this may fall within our jurisdiction, since someone would need to edit the affected article under the topic ban in order to implement those changes - However, I have my doubts that it does. I'm going to ping some current and former ArbCom members for help regarding this exact situation and whether or not past cases have involved changes on other projects that directly affect articles under someone's topic ban. I'll get back to you once I have a response and an answer... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:48, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) The topic bans in the Kurds and Kurdistan case only apply on the English Wikipedia. This is because the enwiki community and the enwiki ArbCom only have authority over the English Wikipedia. Therefore, all bans made by either the community or ArbCom (including these topic bans) only apply on the English Wikipedia. For more information, see WP:BANOP. I can see that the border between what is on the english wikipedia and what isn't can get a bit blurred around commons (for images) and wikidata (for information which may be used on enwiki). However, my understanding is that as long as they don't make any logged action or edit to do with the topic area on enwiki, I don't think they are violating the tban. Dreamy Jazz talk to me | my contributions 22:59, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Dreamy Jazz - This was my thought as well. However, where my question lies is within that "blurry area" (such as Commons, WikiData, etc) where changes there have a direct impact on articles here. I believe, depending on the case, the situation, the extent of the changes, and other factors - it can apply, or at least be used as relevant evidence and used for consideration... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:04, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the quick response User:Oshwah and User:Dreamy Jazz. Now its likely that the topic banned user's action didn't break the imposed topic ban, per WP:BANOP, however, I feel that user might be trying to bend the rules by "violating" that ban on another project. That file is used on Simple English Wikipedia, at simple:Rojava. ETI 15TrSF (Chat Box) 23:06, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Eti15TrSf - Do you know if the file is used on the English Wikipedia here? This will make a difference between whether or not their requests are going to be considered completely outside or possibly inside the scope of their topic ban. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:28, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
@Oshwah: the file information says that it is only used in Simple English Wikipedia, at simple:Rojava. It is not used in enwiki. ETI 15TrSF (Chat Box) 23:34, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Eti15TrSf - Then I would say that this doesn't fall within our jurisdiction or the scope of the user's topic ban, since the requested move does not affect any articles or pages that are hosted here. They can be similarly topic banned on Commons if their community or process feels that the user is being disruptive with these kinds of files, but this wouldn't fall within a topic ban that we could enforce here. They'd have to be sanctioned on Commons. You could talk to a commons admin about this and express your concerns if you have any. That's what I would do; I unfortunately don't have an extensive knowledge or experience with how the process works at Commons as far as sanctions go. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:40, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Apologies from the late reply, but yes, if the disruption happens in Commons, then they should be sanctioned there. However it would be shocking if they did as they didn't learn their lesson from the arbcom case. ETI 15TrSF (Chat Box) 00:58, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

SOCATA TBM

Hi Oshwah, could you look at SOCATA TBM? An IP editor has been edit warring to make unsourced changes to the specs section. The user has been warned several times. Note that the same changes were made a couple of weeks ago from another but somewhat related IP. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 21:58, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi BilCat! I've blocked the /64 range of that IP address for persistent edit warring and the addition of unreferenced content. Please let me know if issues continue, and I'll be happy to take a look at it. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:29, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks as always. I do have a related question: Is there a simple way to determine the /64 range of an IP address? On United States Armed Forces, three IPs have made similar edits, with the first 4 groups of the IP address being the same: Special:Contributions/2603:9000:9907:1100:4DD:2B43:E297:2A8D, Special:Contributions/2603:9000:9907:1100:79CC:DC86:9557:9DD1, and Special:Contributions/2603:9000:9907:1100:2101:1883:ABB8:BC05. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 23:01, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi BilCat! The easiest way to determine if any IPv6 addresses are within the same /64 range is to make the same observation you just made: If the first four IP address groups on the left-side (or the left-half of the IPv6 address) are the exact same, then the IP address is in the same /64 range. To go back to your example above, all three IPv6 addresses you listed start with 2603:9000:9907:1100. This means that, yes, these IP addresses are in the range 2603:9000:9907:1100::/64.
To explain in a bit more detail: Each letter or number in an IPv6 address is exactly four bits (0's and 1's) long, so each block takes 16 bits since there are four letters or numbers in each block. Multiple that by 4 blocks (or the left-half of the IPv6 address), and you have 64 bits. That's where the "64" in /64 comes from. Since there are 8 total IP address blocks in an IPv6 address (totaling 128 bits), half of that is /64. :-)
Let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:20, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

I need help, hair man!

Hello Oshwah, hope you are well! I need some help on expanding and finding sources for the article Reunion Golf and Country Club, which I created. Do you think you can help? Thanks a lot! Tucker Gladden on mobile! 04:51, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Tucker Gladden on Mobile! I also hope you're staying healthy and that you're doing well. I noticed that you accidentally posted this message on my user talk page while logged out; I went ahead and suppressed your IP address for you to keep your information safe. Sure! I'll be happy to help in any way that I can! I can't guarantee that I'll be able to find anything, or that this article meets the criteria for notability, but I'll do what I can to help you. The last article that I created that had some relation to the one you're working on now was Station Fire Memorial Park, which is a national park following the The Station nightclub fire. If you can find the video that I saw where it recorded 100 people being burned to death in that fire, it was... oof... oh man... it was not an easy thing to watch at all. :-/ I'm on vacation this Thursday and Friday. Let me take some time during my days off and see if I can help you out. Keep me posted, and we'll see what I can find. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:32, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Problematic user

Good morning, could you look at Special:Contributions/Jenifar Rahman? I'm not quite sure whats going on with this user, but their talk page has several fourth-level warnings. Some of their edits show an odd obsession with Roman numerals, and they habe other edits that have been reverted as well. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 11:28, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi BilCat. I look a brief look at the account, and I'm not sure if this user is editing in bad faith or not. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and hold off on doing any administrative action. However, it might be worth it to create an ANI discussion if this user continues to edit disruptively. They have many warnings, and the user looks to be adding roman numerals to articles where it's not needed... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:01, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
The disruptive edits continued here and twice more later. The user was reported to AIV here for those edits. Unfortunately, the reporter was blocked for socking, and I'm not sure how to what the admin response was, as it was archived. BilCat (talk) 23:49, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Another admin has blocked them for 72 hours. BilCat (talk) 06:56, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
BilCat - Perfect; thanks for the update and for letting me know. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:26, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

I have a question..

Hey Oshwah. I forgot my password for my old account, KTTcontributes.. And I didn't put in my email for it. Is there any other way I can get it back? Thank you, KTTNEW Talk :D contribz 17:31, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi KTTcontributesNEW! Unfortunately, if you've completely forgotten your password to your old account and did not register an email address with it for recovery purposes, the account won't be recoverable. Have you tried seeing if you've saved the password in a browser? I've had many people forget their passwords, and I was able to help them locate it by looking in their saved password settings for their browser. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:58, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Aw, well I didn't save it, probably because I didn't think I would ever log out. But it's ok. KTTNEW Talk :D contribz 19:00, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
KTTcontributesNEW - It happens. Just confirm an email address to this account in case you lose the password, and you'll be fine. I'd also mention on your user page that your account used to be the other account, but you lost the password. This will avoid any accusations of sock puppetry should anyone become suspicious or anything. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else. I'll be more than happy to lend a hand if you ever need it. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:03, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

disruptive editing and probably socking on hannes heer and wehrmarcht exhibition

this guy on this page :https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wehrmacht_exhibition&action=history (the 177 something guy) seems pretty like a sock from the guys editing on the page before, he insists on removing useful content, and after i asked a 177 guy, he used a possibly sock and undone my edit, refusing to answer to my question, also saying "rv to last stable version" even though the stuff added was referenced, seems like a sock or a disruptive editing ip. 2804:14D:4489:13DF:78B1:2DEA:3726:714A (talk) 20:38, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

protect the pages (hannes heer and wehrmarcht exhibition) and block both "177" IPS, see the edit summary, its funny to see how this kid is trolling us, he also keeps insisting in disruptive editing on the same page, he now also just accused me of being a marquinhos sock, while im certain HE is the marquinhos sock here. 2804:14D:4489:13DF:78B1:2DEA:3726:714A (talk) 20:42, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

the way this dude edits seems more like he is a bot, he rapidly reverts stuff and leaves messages without signing it, and how did he found out i was messaging you before i told him? he must have looked onto my contributions REALLY FAST and came here, or he has a account and has a watchlist. 2804:14D:4489:13DF:78B1:2DEA:3726:714A (talk) 20:46, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello Oshwah, I'm so sorry to bother you again. I hope I'm not disturbing you in any way, shape, or form. Anyway, as you can see at User:Tucker Gladden/Templates/Page template, there is a big ol' space between one notice and the other. Hi 3lostsouls! There were a few issues with the user page that you were trying to create. First, it appeared to be self-advertising, which is not allowed on user pages and is not what Wikipedia is for. Second, you disclosed some personal identifiable information about yourself on the page that I had to suppress for your safety and protection. These are the reasons as to why I deleted the page you created. Old School Hip Hop & Downtown 1980s Art Scene dude desperately need help navigating how to update my wiki page

Hi Oshwah,

First off, thank you for taking the time to help me. If you look me up on wikipedia, I am "Michael Holman (filmmaker)". But I'm more than that, and will shamelessly promote myself if it helps in getting any help from you (I know you're volunteers and that is so cool!). As you'll see on my page, I started a band with artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (we still record and perform which, along with other stuff, is a lot to do with my updates!); I helped bring Hip Hop Culture to the world; I wrote the screenplay for the film Basquiat; my work and archives were acquired by the NY Public Library for the Performing Arts and the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture; etc., etc. Needless to say, I am still very much active in the arts and cultural community and simply wanted to make some important updates to my wiki page, which I am finding ( as a proper dinosaur) extremely challenging. Is there any chance I could talk to you on the phone, just to get a quick tutorial on how to make one change (in terms of adding sourced links to substantiate, etc.), then I'll know and can carry on on my own?

Also, I think if you guys made a step-by-step tutorial, it would be super helpful.

All the best, Michael Holman

I will email you as well... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:7000:4001:E49A:3425:B428:E7E9:83F5 (talk) 17:39, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi there! It's very frowned upon for subjects of articles to be editing their own Wikipedia pages. This is because you have an obvious conflict of interest with the article subject (which is yourself). It makes it nearly impossible for users to write articles and content that are worded to reflect a neutral point of view if they have a personal conflict of interest with the subject. You should instead make an edit request on the article's talk page. This allows other readers to review, approve, and modify the article for you to add the content. Please let me know if you have any questions about this, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:59, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

User:Avcı555

Another "new user" has shown up on the Russo-Turkish War (1676–1681) article. Stating the exact same thing, using the exact same sources. Too bad they chose not to engage on the talk page when Nicoljaus, Каракорум, and I had our discussion.

I am going to add this "new user" to the current SPI. Is there anyway to get someone to do a sweep since this person seems to be making new socks. --Kansas Bear (talk) 00:15, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kansas Bear! Sorry for the delay responding to your message here. I've been away and been sick lately (not COVID lol), so I'm just now catching up with all of the messages I received while I was offline. How to stop vandalism

I have nothing to do on wikipedia, and I want to revert vandalism so that I can feel useful. one problem: there is like no vandalism for me to revert. how should I find vandalism to revert, and what is the fastest way to get to 500 edits for E confirmed? Thanks- KommanderChicken (talk) 16:48, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) KommanderC, I'd recommend installing twinkle (a must-have) and possibly RedWarn, before going to Special:RecentChanges and looking out for vandals. You'll find that doing counter vandalism work racks up edits very quickly. Please read WP:VAND and WP:AGF before starting - if you like the work you can look towards counter-vandalism unit academy once you get to 200 mainspace edits. Help! : Prathima Korada Wki Page

Hi Sir,

Thanks, Avinash G. Avinash.gorikapudi1 (talk) 19:43, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Avinash.gorikapudi1! Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad that you decided to join us! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions and request for help. I'll be more than happy to explain how the articles for deletion (AFD) process works.
Discussions at AFD will not take the quality of the article itself into account when deciding whether or not to keep or delete it; they take the notability of the article subject into account, which is typically established by the availability of secondary reliable sources that can be researched and found (either on the internet or in print media) that provide primary coverage regarding the article subject.
Think of it like this: If, for example, the Barrack Obama or Abraham Lincoln articles were only a few paragraphs long and didn't provide many or very good sources, these articles would be kept if I were to nominate them for a discussion at AFD. That's because, well, they're notable people... :-) It's quite easy to go onto Google and type those names in - you're going to find numerous sources that are reliable and show that these people are notable. We don't delete those articles under that process just because they're not long enough, don't have great content, or don't have enough sources cited. The articles just need to be expanded and improved. The same principle applies here as well. On the other hand: I could have an extensively-written article about some random Joe person, but if they're not notable, the article subject won't be determined to be notable in an AFD discussion. Why? Because there obviously won't be any secondary reliable sources online or elsewhere that would establish Mr. Random Joe Person as a notable article subject. The quality of the article I wrote about Random Joe could be significantly above-average when it comes to content, but in the end, it won't matter.
In short: There's really nothing you can do to the article itself that will change the outcome of the discussion. Don't go into an AFD discussion with the belief that, if you could improve the article to be "up to standard" before the discussion closes, that there's hope of it being kept. Either the article subject is notable or they aren't - that's what the discussion is created to determine. If anything, take the outcome as a good learning experience. Before you write your next article, I'm sure that you'll be much more well-versed in Wikipedia's notability guidelines, and you'll create an article that will do well. I created a few articles when I was new on Wikipedia, and I was angry and disappointed when they were deleted - it can be really discouraging... All that time wasted. However, I kept with it, and I took the time to know and understand the policies and guidelines and why they're important. In the end, it helped improve my editing and my experience a lot.
Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Take some time and read through those guidelines. If you have any questions about them, let me know! I'll be happy to answer them and explain, or clarify anything that's confusing. You're doing well here! If anything, the article gets deleted, and this is just a minor setback. You'll be a better editor moving forward either way. I've been there myself; I'm not here today and with the experience and knowledge that I have because I got everything right and did perfectly. I've made more than my fair share of mistakes. Trust me... ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:28, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Are you on a Wikibreak?

Hello again, Oshwah!

You haven't edited in over 3 days. Are you taking a quick break? Anyway, I have made multiple changes to my user and talk pages. Can you take a look at my pages and see if they are appropriate? Thank you! Tucker Gladden 👑 21:20, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Oshwah edits very sporadically, a few days on, a few days off. The length of time varies according to his schedule, which he doesn't share here. If it's urgent, you might want to ask someone else. BilCat (talk) 22:18, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Good to know. Tucker Gladden 👑 22:26, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi Tucker Gladden! My schedule got busy and I got sick... Good times. I'll be back on Wikipedia soon. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:12, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, I hope you're feeling better - with luck it's not COVID? Pahunkat (talk) 18:46, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
Pahunkat - Nah, not COVID. I think I ate something bad - more like a stomach virus/flu... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:13, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, that's a relief - so many people seem to be getting COVID, including at least one of the CUs back in February Pahunkat (talk) 22:16, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Tucker Gladden - Nobody owns any content that they put on Wikipedia - even in their user pages (with the exception of users trying to impersonate other users in bad faith - I'll delete those and block them). You're free to copy the style and formatting that I created for my user page and other pages and use them for yourself. Your user page is fine. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:04, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, thank you for relieving my worry. Tucker Gladden 👑 03:56, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar to you!

The Civility Barnstar
With most memory, I award you the Civility barnstar for the exceptional civility I have noticed from you. Even when I was wrong you always gave good, thoughtful answers that were in a tone such I have seen of no other editor. You won't believe how much it has helped me. Even when I was too ill to safely interact with others, thinking about you really made me feel better and more together with the world, and might have even saved me from taking my life. I shall remember you till the very end. As one of my last wishes, can you please redirect my user page (Steve M) to my talk page? I don't want people to be confused. [REDACTED - Oshwah] 04:19, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
Steve M - Was this really you who left this message on my user talk page? If so, you accidentally left this message while you were logged out from your account. I've suppressed your IP address and removed it for your safety and protection. Let me know if this was really you; I'll be happy to help once I have confirmation from you... I've had many LTAs and trolls try and leave messages and barnstars while trying to impersonate other users, so just let me know... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:32, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
@Oshwah: Just an FYI, this IP is a VPN/proxy, one of the few that aren't blocked on Wikipedia. Therefore it isn't possible for any vandal/LTA/troll to track me with this IP. Also, there is a way to prove it is really me. The email on my talk page has been used for countless oversight requests that I have sent, and you can check the oversight request queue from the email and then email that address. When I answer, that will confirm it is me. 174.128.180.23 (talk) 02:27, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Given some recent happenings, I don't doubt this is Steve, but I think he won't be able to log in to confirm. I have hence gone ahead and redirected. Steve, I hope you're well and that you return some day. All the best, Blablubbs|talk 01:51, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Blablubbs - "Recent happenings"? What happened? What made Steve M retire? I also hope that he returns. If he had any issues or concerns, I would've been happy to help him with them if it would've helped him decide to stay... :-/ ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:58, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
I'm not 100% sure myself, and I think it's unfair to Steve to try and speak on his behalf, but his talk page may provide some context. Blablubbs|talk 02:06, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Blablubbs - Hmm, okay. I'll take a look there... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:16, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Had a brief conversation with Steve yesterday, he seems to have scrambled his password. --Ashleyyoursmile! 06:12, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Ashleyyoursmile - Yeah, I saw that when I took a look at his user talk page. It's sad to see him do that. Hopefully he'll decide to recover his password if he confirmed an email address with the account, or elect to perform a clean start if he wishes to do so. He's not under any kind of active sanctions or editing restrictions that I know if, so he's eligible for a clean start if he elects to do so. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:12, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Hot sex barnstar

Back in 2020, I made two controversial barnstars that ended up getting deleted. The KKK Barnstar and the NSDAP Barnstar (Nazi Barnstar). I got a lot of flack for making them, so I had them deleted. I didn't really put up a fight to keep them because the issue was quite obvious. I only made them as an award for editors who significantly contributed to those specific topics. That's what barnstars are, awards. My intentions were never to offend or show support for these groups. I thought the barnstars would cause no offence since there were other barnstars with swastikas (now deleted) that had been around for years. The reasons for wanting to have the barnstars removed are understandable, but I'm still trying to process something that I found recently. File:Hot sex barnstar.png which you tried to have delete back in 2018. I am completely dumbfounded as to why it was kept. The previous barnstars I mentioned had symbols that were offensive, but I always make my barnstars with a clean and simple design. The Hot sex barnstar is obviously not clean nor a simple design. Overall, it is completely unencyclopedic. Have you ever thought of nominating it again? Jerm (talk) 05:58, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia isn't censored, but considering how pictures and illustrations pertaining to sexuality can and will be abused here (especially as the barnstar in question is used on userspace pages), it is indeed baffling as to why said barnstar is still up. It would be embarrassing for any user to be given what's clearly an NSFW award, regardless of whether the user did made extensive contributions to articles pertaining to such subjects or not. Blake Gripling (talk) 01:35, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Jerm - I agree with Blakegripling ph. The fact that this barnstar exists is quite ridiculous and completely open to abuse. Can you link me to the XFD page when I nominated this barnstar? I'd like to take a look at it... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:49, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
And then there's also this one, which while it has only been used on one page, is also free real estate for LTAs to spam on talk pages out of gross mockery. I'd let sexual imagery slide here on Wikimedia projects if it's used in context, but not to the point where people can use it as an "award" of some kind, whether it's in good faith or not. If anything, there's always PornHub for that matter. Blake Gripling (talk) 02:19, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Blake Gripling - I agree. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:53, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah See Commons:Deletion requests/File:Hot sex barnstar.png. I get that Wikipedia is not censored, but I'm positive there are symbols or other alternative designs that can better represent a sexuality barnstar. Antonu made two versions of the pornography barnstar, File:XXX Barnstar Hires.png & File:Porn Barnstar Hires.png. He could've showed lots of skin like the Hot sex barnstar to represent pornography, but he isn't stupid. That whole thing about not being censored is a bs excuse to encourage disruption without having any repercussions. Jerm (talk) 03:46, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Jerm - Anyone citing Wikipedia's not censored policy in order to defend disruption of any kind would be hopelessly trying to game the system. ;-) Okay, I remember this deletion request now - thank you for pointing me to it. I ended up withdrawing my request after someone pointed out to me that it was a (supposedly) legitimate barnstar that's used and given out to others on many Wikimedia projects. Now, I can't speak for other projects, as nudity is not seen as offensive at all in many other countries and cultures around the world compared to where I live. However, I wouldn't exactly add this barnstar to my shelf if someone gave it to me. I'd likely look into the matter thinking that it was a bad faith edit at first (which, I'll confess, is against what should be my better judgment). I mean... I guess as long as it's not being used disruptively, I'll call this a situation of "it is what it is" and leave it be. Oh, and for the record, I agree that those two other barnstars you listed are more neutral and appropriate than the ones containing nudity, but I won't call this a matter of disruption until the barnstar is actually used disruptively. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:01, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah I understand, but I just feel like I got screwed over when I saw the Hot sex barnstar. Complete double-standard. I was getting some messages how people felt uncomfortable with the barnstars because of how the symbols were used in the past, and how hate groups still use them today. There were others suggesting on WikiCommons that I should be blocked, but I'll take your word and let this go because it's exactly what you said, it is what it is. Jerm (talk) 05:24, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
The XXX and porn barnstars are far more neutral and less contentious in the context of awarding it to users who regularly edit porn-related articles. I don't see how a barnstar made from a photo of someone's penis would be by any means productive; using the original penis photo on an article relating to it would be fine if used with due discretion and context, however. Blake Gripling (talk) 06:10, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Blake Gripling - I don't consider it productive either, but that's my opinion I guess... *shrug* ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:19, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
As I mentioned over at Discord, the AVN Awards trophy serves the purpose well without being too graphic or explicit. I presume a typical porn actor would be embarrassed to keep a phallic symbol in his trophy room unless he does indeed have a strange fetish. Blake Gripling (talk) 06:39, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah File:Penis barnstar.png has been nominated for deletion. Jerm (talk) 06:29, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Jerm - Not a bad idea. I personally see no point in that barnstar... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:30, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah I have nominated the Hot sex barnstar for deletion. I know you said that Wikipedia in not censored, however, WikiCommons has a policy for those who try to defend images that don't provide educational purposes. Please see my nomination. Jerm (talk) 02:33, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Jerm - Not a bad call. :-) Yes, Wikipedia is not censored, but that isn't what that policy refers to. It doesn't mean that we can upload whatever we want on here. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:49, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi SLBedit! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns regarding the Sporting CP article. I've gone and semi-protected the article for one month due to the ongoing edit warring and disruptive editing regarding that term. Content that is in dispute obviously needs to be discussed on the article's talk page and done so properly according to protocol. I am thinking about nominating Oshwah for bureaucrat. I talked to him about it, and he said to get others' opinions on the matter. Does anyone back me in saying that Oshwah should be bureaucrat? KingOfAllThings (chatter!) 05:25, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Too soon?

@JJPMaster: From Oshwah's comments above and on this issue previously, I really get the impression he's not ready to be a crat just yet. I recommend anyone seriously considering filing an RfB talk to Oshwah privately first, and find out if he really wants this at this time. He's honestly quite busy in real life, and seems to have enough duties on his wiki-plate right now. BilCat (talk) 20:17, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

BilCat - Unless the community overwhelmingly asks me to run and some users that I've worked with for a long time ask to nominate me, I don't plan on running for crat. Not for a very long time. I don't think the community needs more crats right now, though I could be wrong. I still have my borderline RFA that I barely passed leaving a weird taste in my mouth, too. I'm afraid that I'd get demolished... lol. Plus, I have a lot of responsibilities as it is with being a checkuser and oversighter. Let me get proficient with being a checkuser for awhile at least... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:35, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
I concur, and other than the marginal RfA, which seems crazy in hindsight, those was pretty much the reasons I recommended them talking to you first. I didn't know how deep you wanted to get into your reasonings in an open forum, but of course you were free to answer here, as you did you. :) BilCat (talk) 23:01, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Can you advise/help

I have received a couple of emails via the wikipedia system asking me to comment on some edits I did to the Maersk article removing some global warming spam from a user by the name Topsy348 for a Cambridge University project. Looking back I see this was connected with a sock puppet investigation on Max7488 which you were involved in. I do not know if this is a genuine research project or some strange attempt to get editors details. I can forward you the emails privately or can you advise whose attention should I draw this to? Lyndaship (talk) 14:07, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Lyndaship! You received a message from "the wikipedia system" asking for a comment on your removal? Likely it was Wikipedia letting you know that a user sent you a message about it. Look at the bottom of the email to see who it was. It will say, "This was a message sent from the user XXXXXX." You can send me the emails if you wish, but I wouldn't worry about them too much. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:38, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
I've sent you copies of the emails privately. Lyndaship (talk) 08:02, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

  • Thanks Oshwah for all your help with my questions! I have One more question; will my W A S D keys on the laptop get loose, if I keep using them to game (Okay I lied; Another one, but On Wikipedia if Japanese Wikipedia has an article about a chain of stores in Japan (OR J-POP album), but no other Wikipedias have it, is it dangerous to create it on another Wikipedia?) --つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 02:25, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi つがる! As long as you use the keys in the way that they're designed to be used (not pressing too hard, not abusing them or pushing them sideways, anything like that, then I wouldn't expect there to be any damage in that regards. :-) As far as your question about creating articles on other Wikipedia projects go: I wouldn't see it as a bad thing, no. There are people who regularly translate articles over to other Wikipedia projects. If you natively speak another language, that's something you can definitely help with! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:45, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
What if it is on a chain of stores, but there is not much news about it online, but there is a Japanese Wikipedia Article on it? Is it okay? --つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 00:17, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
つがる - You'll need to read up on the policies and guidelines of that particular Wikipedia project - especially in terms of notability and what they define as "notable" there. It could be different, less strict than the English Wikipedia, or more strict. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:32, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @つがる: Generally, even though is seems weird, Wikipedia is not considered a source reliable enough for Wikipedia. Wikipedia articles are written by anonymous people, their content is volatile (anybody can change it at any time, both improving or degrading it), they have no standard proof-reading routines and their sourcing is sometimes dubious. Apart from that, Wikipedias in different languages are actually separate projects, they have separate rules e.g. for notability and for required level and quality of sourcing. So – yes, you can translate content between Japanese and English Wikipedia, but each time you need to make sure the references are good enough for specific destination project. --CiaPan (talk) 00:32, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Ah, Interesting, I was looking at bringing that article to the Simple English Wikipedia and not the English Wikipedia. But if the policies here won't allow, neither will SEWP --つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 00:37, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh, How come when I went to a store, to get more ram, they tell me a 8GB and a 16GB DDR4 SODIMM stick won't work together, but it worked fine when I tried it at home? --つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 02:36, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
つがる - They made assumptions about things that they weren't sure about. They went with the safe option of telling you that it won't work so that you don't come back to the store angry, return the RAM, and say, "Well, THIS employee said that it would work!" In general, so long as you're buying the correct RAM type for your motherboard, it should work fine; it'll be okay to add a stick to what you have so long as there's an open port and so long as you're not already at the maximum that the motherboard can see. It's not the best practice to put different RAM values in two different sockets on the same motherboard, but it will work. The only thing that may get in your way is the motherboard and its requirements. Some motherboards out there will not boot if you mix ram values and brands, but it's usually not a problem and it's more common to see that with servers these days. I hope I answered your question. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:06, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
That's very honest of the employee to do so, they could have just sold it and refused returns, etc. But they choose to be upright and honest, I like it. My motherboard can take up to 32 GB AFAIK. Why is it not the best pratice to put 2 sticks of different ram sizes in the board? I will note that the laptop won't boot with the 16GB stick itself, it needed both the 8GB and the 16GB stick in order to turn on, strange. --つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 20:39, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
つがる - Well, if it were me, I wouldn't want to risk it and have a customer come back and yell at me. :-) I'd rather say that I don't know for sure rather than tell them that it'll work if it were to save me the trouble. It's essentially not "best practice" because of dual or quad channeling, but I wouldn't worry about it. You're more interested in increasing your RAM amount and not necessarily the speed in which it's accessed. When you boot the workstation with both sticks of RAM installed, does your workstation see 24 GB of RAM? When you say that it won't boot when you only install the 16 GB stick, does the workstation turn on and beep a trouble code at you? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:48, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
This is funny, because when I first added 4 more GB of RAM, I didn't get a BIOS alert, saying 'New RAM has been detected" even though, I put in a new stick. This time, just booting with the 16GB stick itself, I turn on the laptop, screen has nothing, but keyboard is backlit, it won't go any further than that, I powered off the laptop, insert the 8GB stick, in the second slot, with the 16GB stick of RAM. I can boot this time, and a message comes up saying "New ram has been detected", and I enter BIOS to confirm that it is 24000MB, of course, the system reserves some of it, so I only get 23400MB ram in total. However the BIOS did read a bit more than 24GB ram, but I only put in 24 GB ram, so? --つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 20:58, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

つがる - That's weird that your system will boot with both sticks but not the 16 GB stick. That can be due to a number of things. Oh well; if it works with both sticks, it works. I'd just leave it like that and call it good. Your system board might have 512 MB of RAM built into it. I've seen that before, but not recently. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:12, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

Even funnier is that there's another laptop at home that shuts off randomly when you use it, and the CPU/Diagnostics test don't detect any errors! つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 21:21, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
つがる - It could be the power supply, charger, or the battery that's causing it. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:45, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh, Sorry to bother again, but I'm having trouble at school trying to study from reading and writing notes, I can't focus, or remember the content, what is the best way to study using this method? --つがる Talk to つがる:) 🍁 22:13, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) (aka nosey parker) I'm a bit behind (a lot behind apparently!) the latest memory requirements, but aren't the motherboards now designed to need a matching 'pair' of RAM? I may be thinking of Intel motherboards specifically. Rambus DRAM type memory perhaps? 220 of ßorg 12:36, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
220 of Borg - I remember having to work with RAMBUS back in the day. That RAM was very picky; you had to have matching sticks, and one of the sticks had to terminate the RAM, so if you were missing any of that or didn't have the amount or pairs exactly the way they wanted, the system wouldn't boot. That RAM type is very old, though. I haven't seen it in many years. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:06, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Another sock ?

Hey Oshwah, hope that you and yours are all doing well. I came to see this SPI case in which you were involved : [1] and i was wondering if this user was (or not) another sock in relation with those of the SPI case. My rationale is based on their editing profile (same article targeted) and their username (Ates is a Persian word meaning fire). Take care.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 09:06, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Wikaviani! I'm not sure, but if you think there's sufficient evidence to provide that proves that this user is a sock account, please file another SPI report so that we can take a look at it. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:48, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Many thanks, i'm gonna keep an eye on that editor's behavior and see if he is "SPI worthy". Cheers.---Wikaviani (talk) (contribs) 22:56, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

IP socking?

Hello sir, could you please check if that ip is related to that account that was blocked some months ago, it seems that both have identical editing pattern. Thanks you. Emirhan Ogun (talk) 14:42, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Emirhan Ogun! I cannot use the checkuser tool to confirm if an IP is connected to an account. The checkuser tool is only allowed to be used to confirm if accounts are connected to other accounts. I'd be violating Wikipedia's (and the Wikimedia Foundation's) privacy policy if I were to do that. :-) Take a look at Wikipedia's checkuser policy page for more information on how checkuser works, and when its use is appropriate or not. Please let me know if you have any questions about it, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:51, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi, as soon as you blocked User:Obituarian as a sock, another account User:Nekrologue commenced with similar edits. FYI. Thanks, WWGB (talk) 04:43, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Do you suspect logged-out editing?

Hi Oshwah, I suspect logged-out editing by User:Sullivan.Studios as the IP 2405:6E00:30F2:A900:5834:1A09:FF95:D3A6. Do you think the possibility is high enough for me to open an SPI investigation? See diff https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Sullivan.Studios&diff=1012397163&oldid=1012380629. Johnnyconnorabc (talk) 05:19, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Johnnyconnorabc! You're likely right, but I wouldn't worry about it. If the account was using that IP address to edit, it'll be autoblocked due to the account being blocked. If the IP continues to make disruptive edits after it expires, just let me know and I'll be happy to take a look. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:13, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Request for comment about an edit

Please kindly see this edit Special:PermaLink/1012419322 and share your thoughts. It looks like outing, I can't tell whether legitimate or not (the edit was done anonymously). Additionally, it comes from a spamming IP range Special:Contributions/49.237.20.118/16. Possibly some administrative actions are needed. --CiaPan (talk) 08:50, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi CiaPan! Thanks for letting me know about this. To be safe, I went ahead and suppressed that revision. Next time, if you suspect that there's a revision or edits that require rev del or suppression, go ahead and email those to me instead. Over 1000 editors have this page on their watchlist. If you post requests like this here publicly, you'll almost certainly trigger the Streisand effect, as editors will quickly run over and look at the content before it becomes hidden to them. ;-) Anyways, all taken care of! Bronze Ball et. al

Hello Oshwah, thanks for blocking the accounts at Dasmesh Public School, Faridkot - I was about to take the matter to ANI. Would it be possible to have a look at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Grganml again - are these the same person, or impersonators? Once again, thanks a lot :-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pahunkat (talkcontribs) 21:59, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Pahunkat! The accounts listed in the SPI are all from the same IP and have the same user agents. This is likely someone (or more than one person) from a computer lab or similar public setting. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:15, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Oshwah, I was wondering if Bronze ball, Puraana Bhoot (and as I speak Goodfields1 has just turned up) are related to the mentioned SPI, or an LTA with a grudge against me. I don't want to be pushing for a block against accounts that are being impersonated. I have suspicions (that may be wrong) that users might be being joe jobbed here. Pahunkat (talk) 22:19, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

You deleted an edit

I don't know who you are but you deleted my edit about the California Zephyr train, and I was talking about the SONG california Zephyr, and the serious ERRORS made in the song...

I'm a native Californian

I'm a radio DJ

I'm an ex railroad worker

My credentials are in good order...

SHAME on you for deleting the edit...

You was it was less then neutral... how so...???

I directly refuted the entire concept of a song that many believe is factually true, but the song has factual errors.

For history to have ANY validation, it has to be accurate, this especially includes song lyrics.

You're not from here... you from some foreign country, so YOU have no idea why WE consider historic accuracy important when it comes to something direcly in OUR lives, not your life... you have no idea yet you want to pass judgement on ME, a former RR asst Engineer on the Western Pacific RR, and also, as a radio DJ, I'm deeply offended by songs with no factual basis... this is MY history, not yours... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

There are problems with THIS California Zephyr SONG...

It has MANY factual errors in the lyrics, and this is several decades old, and some great musicians

have unwittingly perpetuated the glaring errors... but RAILROAD people know just how bogus the

words are.

1)... The 'CZ" was NEVER a Union Pacific train. It was co-owned by the Western Pacific RR,

Denver & Rio Grande RR, and the Chicago Burlington & Quincy RR.

2)... it NEVER ran out of Los Angeles

3)... NEVER ran on the Santa Fe RR

4)... it NEVER ran to Santa Fe, New Mexico

Although there were several railroads that did have "Vista Dome" RR cars, including Union Pacific

& Santa Fe... they were NOT the CZ (California Zephyr

In its original run, California Zephyr operated 1949 - 1970 over the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy

Railroad (Burlington Route) from Chicago to Denver, Colorado, the Denver and Rio Grande

Western Railroad between Denver and Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Western Pacific Railroad from

Salt Lake City to Oakland, California.

The ONLY connection Union Pacific had was part ownership of the CZ's predesessor The City Of

San Francisco, which was run by Southern Pacific and ended in 1949.

In summer 1954, the scheduled run for the 2,532 miles from Chicago to San Francisco was 50

hours 50 minutes.

An eastbound California Zephyr through Ruby Canyon saw the train's first birth on March 1, 1955,

when Reed Zars was born on board.

There was an eastern quasi extensiopn of the CZ, when Pennsylvania Railroad owned a single 10

-roomette 6-double bedroom sleeping car, the Silver Rapids, which was used for through service to

New York City, but this was just a single car added to a different consist on the Pennsylvania RR.

Templating

Hi Oswah,
Is it OK for me, a non-Admin, to do this? I only bothered because I came across the block, so I put the template there in passing through.
• Is that your real hair ? If so, 'enjoy' it, while you can! ;-| 220 of ßorg 02:55, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi 220 of Borg! Awesome Star Trek reference! :-) I don't see it as a bad thing that you're doing, but do know that there are times where admins will purposefully not leave block notices or templates like that on some user talk pages - mainly per WP:DENY. Just keep that in mind. :-) And yes, that is my real actual hair! You'd be surprised as to how many people ask me that question. :-P Cheers! - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:59, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
My static IP for most of my first 2 years of WP editing (~11.9 k edits) was 220.101.28.25, and I became know as '220'. I think 'Locutus of Borg' was my start point. (Funnily. IMHO I got more 'respect' or 'kudos' then, than I do now. :-[ )
• Be free to remove the 'indef' notice if you prefer.
• As you may imagine I'm a bit less blessed with head hair than you. But, few can have a coiffure like that! (Ah, reminds me of Sideshow Bob!). 220 of ßorg 05:28, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi 220 of Borg! That's a great origin for your username! A good Star Trek TNG mix with your past editing... I like it! :-) Don't worry about the indef template - it can stay. I'm not too concerned about it being there. I was just letting you know so that you can keep it in mind should you see that in the future. Thanks for the compliment about the hair! Not sure who I inherited it from, but it's definitely a lot of work to maintain. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:32, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kashmorwiki! Thanks for the message and for bringing your concerns to me. Users who normally make useless edits like that on their user pages do so in order to purposefully increase their edit count to become extended confirmed so that they can disrupt the project on pages with that protection level. I went ahead and gave the user the benefit of the doubt, unblocked their account, let them know, and provided them a link to Wikipedia's getting started page. Hopefully, this user will read through that page and contribute to Wikipedia in a positive manner. Thanks again for the message! It is very unfortunate that you unblocked a sockpuppet of Vishaal Elias Manesh disguised as a lady AARYA SAJAYAN. As far as the threats go, who is threatening you? Where at? Can you provide diffs to me so that I can take a look at them? I see that there's a discussion going on at the Teahouse regarding this, but it looks like AARYA SAJAYAN has apologized for their incivility toward you. Comment needed

Hi Oshwah, good day. I need your advice and hope you could help. 2 IP editors have been edit warring on Amanda Nunes page and I suggested them to discuss the content dispute issue on the talk page - see Content dispute - edit warring - GOAT. One of them users 136.49.166.71 was temporary blocked 10 days ago. The other editor, who edited with multiple IP accounts - see my talk page message titled "Nunes". However, this particular editor, so far as I know, has not abusing "SOCK" according to the page. How should we treat this manner in hand. Kindly advise. Thank you. Cassiopeia(talk) 01:27, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Cassiopeia! Happy Friday! I hope you're doing well! I took a look at the article, and it looks to be semi-protected until the end of March, so the edit warring hopefully won't continue. Nonetheless, I see that there are two IPv6 /64 ranges that are contributing to this edit war - 2601:201:C27F:F170::/64 and 2A02:AB04:2F43:5000::/64, which both geolocate to different regions. That's going to be tough; /64 ranges tend to change frequently and usually without the user's knowledge - communication with them won't be easy. That being said, I would still try and see if they'll contribute to the discussion. I'd leave messages on their most recent IP address and point them to that talk page discussion. Hopefully, they'll contribute to it and try and work things out. If the edit war continues after the protection ends, let me know. I'll be happy to step in and put a kibosh to it. Assuming that they're staying in their respective /64 ranges, they should be easy to block if things should have to come to that. I hope that it won't. Let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to help you further. I hope you have a great weekend, and I wish you happy editing. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:17, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you Oshwah, it is also good to technical background like you to know how things work which I wish I have. It is difficult to know if the same user edit warning many times but with different IP addresses because /64 ranges changes frequently, we wouldn't know if they have engaging in ED at all. Thank you so much for the assistance and happy Friday to you and good weekend ahead. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia(talk) 02:40, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Cassiopeia - You're welcome! The best thing to know about IPv6 addresses is that /64 ranges will change very frequently with many internet service providers. There are a lot of users who come to me that think that an IP user is purposefully "IP hopping" to avoid being blocked when, in fact, that's not the case at all. /64 ranges will change with the same user a lot, and it's not because of anything they're doing on purpose. It's the internet service provider doing this. How do you identify a /64 range? It's actually very easy. If you think that a bunch of IPv6 users are contributing to the same page, look at the first four blocks on the left-hand side (Example: 1234:5678:9000:1ABC:ABCD:ABCD:ABCD:ABCD - the blocks I'm talking about are "1234:5678:9000:1ABC" on the left-hand side). If they're the same, the user is in the same /64 range, and it's very very likely the same user. Boom! Easy! Keep an eye on things and keep me updated. I'm available and happy to help if you need anything else. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:52, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you Oshwah, Thank you for the information, Now I Know :). For I was accuse of reporting certain user of ED but the user (A) said that I didnt report other user (multiple diff IP addresses - user B) who they think they are the same user who also involved in ED and thought we are friend for I didnt report the later5 (user B). Thank you Oshwah, you are always a great help. Cheers. Cassiopeia(talk) 03:13, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Disruptive edits on Emishi

Hello Oswah, could you please add the article Emishi on your watch list? Two editors make disruptive and unconstructive edits adding large parts of unsourced content and personal comments. See the edit history there. This is a violation of WP:RS, WP:Verify and WP:OR. One user also seems to not understand WP:BURDEN. Maybe a page protection would be useful. Thank you in advance. 81.10.217.91 (talk) 08:12, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I will put this on my watch list, just to help. KingOfAllThings (thou shalt chatter!) 19:50, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi there! Sure, I can try and keep an eye on things. I do have a lot of articles and pages on my watchlist; I'll do my best. It looks like the article has been fully protected, so this should hopefully put a stop to the disruption and encourage everyone involved to discuss the matter on the article's talk page. Nonetheless, I appreciate you for bringing it to my attention. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:22, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Harrasment at highest level

Dear Oshwah, please have a look at this. [6]. (Please see my talk page to see more). This user is continously harrassing me. This is the first time I request to block an user. He is not stopping and is targetting me. I have already pinged you at ANI. But I wanted to let you know how much Im frustrated. Because, Im a user who almost spends the entire day on this project. And you know that I was the person who helped Aarya to give her a second chance, which implies how much I love to help new users. This user is just a sock of ProudMallu and I have provided the evidence at ANI. (This is more than just a sock). I came here, because I kindly request you to speed up this Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Phoenix man so such users who cause harrassment to other users will be blocked forever. Regards Kichu🐘 Need any help? 15:44, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kashmorwiki! I'm sorry to hear that this user was harassing you. The user is now blocked, and looks to be a sock puppet of Phoenix man according to the SPI report. Don't feel bad for helping new users! I do it, and this kind of nonsense is what will come of it at times... Just keep up the great work that you do. :-) I know that this can be hard to do, but do your best to ignore the harassment and move on. Sock puppet accounts like these do this all the time, and it's not worth the time and effort of giving them any kind of attention - trust me. ;-) If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:25, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

User:Winterysteppe

Hello, Oshwah,

There has been a recent Winterysteppe sockpuppet that was much more active than previous ones (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Winterysteppe). In dealing with the fallout (which involved the deletion of over 68,000 pages), I visited Winterysteppe's user talk page and saw how much you tried to help him. I'm not trying to bum you out by bringing you this latest news but this sockpuppet was much more high profile than others and I thought you might want to know. Although I had questions about Starzoner's activities over the past year, this still came as a shock to me. Liz Read! Talk! 04:20, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Liz! It's great to talk to you again! I hope you're doing well. Yes, unfortunately, he fell into the sockpuppeting pit and has been doing it ever since. It's disappointing, and I've told this user on many occasions before that he needs to stop and follow the standard offer if he wants to come back. It's too late now, I suppose... But, hey, in the end - people in this situation choose to be in the position that they are in, and if they really wanted to come back and contribute to this project, he would've taken my advice. I can't let any sympathies or feelings get in the way; all it does is get in the way of our mission to build the encyclopedia. Hence, I don't feel bad about his position. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:20, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

City, State in infobox

Thanks for reverting Special:Contributions/Trevor_LaFleur. I was considering leaving a note here about that, but you found it on your own. BilCat (talk) 08:04, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi BilCat! Thanks for the message! Yeah, I reverted the changes and left a message on the user's talk page about that. As far as I know, the City and the State together make the official name of the City. I did, however, cite the incorrect guideline in the edit summaries I left with all of those reverts... Oops. :-/ Oh well, I think everyone will understand what I meant to say. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:07, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Btw, how do you pronounce "consesnsus"? I've tried to say it, but it hurts my sinuses when I do. :) BilCat (talk) 08:10, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
BilCat - HA! Good catch. I'm not sure how that's pronounced. :-) Looks like a fancy word, though! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:19, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

my page taken down??

Hi Oshwah, I made a page User:YUS2017 and it was taken down I don't really get why (YUS2017 (talk) 08:42, 24 March 2021 (UTC))

Hi YUS2017, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for leaving me a messages here with your question about your user page. The reason it was deleted was because it appeared to be worded in the direction to be like a social media profile; it contained a link to the department at your school that you're associated with, and it wasn't primarily focused on Wikipedia-related matters. Usually, people do this in order to create a "social media-like profile" or to self-advertise or self-promote themselves, which is not allowed. Here's what I'll do for you: I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and restore your user page. Please make sure to review Wikipedia's policy on user pages and what they are and are not for. This will help avoid any issues in the future. Thanks again for leaving me a message here. I hope you have a great day and I wish you happy editing. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:50, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Reversion of edit made to Zygomatic bone page

This is with reference to a message I received from you here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:2405:201:15:C821:B572:1A2B:5C32:BA0

Since the edit involved merely moving up a section from the bottom of the page to the top, with no information added or deleted, and since the section in question was a preexisting one with an established history, I see no reason why the edit should be reverted on the basis of a lack of citations in the original text. The appropriate references can always be added at a later date. I think you should undo your edit.

2405:201:15:C821:B572:1A2B:5C32:BA0 (talk) 09:01, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks for leaving me a message regarding your edit. Please accept my sincere apologies! I thought you had added the content and not moved it. I have restored your edit to the article. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I apologize for the mistake and the confusion. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:17, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick revert. In future, I'll provide a more detailed description of the actions performed in the "Edit summary" page so as to prevent this kind of confusion from happening again. 2405:201:15:C821:B572:1A2B:5C32:BA0 (talk) 10:42, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Sounds good. Yes, I'd recommend doing that in order to prevent confusion like this in the future. :-) Sorry again, and thanks for letting me know! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:34, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Or how about you dont allow a complete re-edit remain. posting the link to a german book vendor page with no real refrence and no translation text - IS NOT A REFERENCE. allowing that kind of absolute BS to stand is disgusting — Preceding unsigned comment added by AnteeBS (talkcontribs) 09:21, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

AnteeBS - If you feel that there are issues with the article, why not start a discussion so that the article can be improved? Editing the article and adding this is not productive and doesn't resolve anything. Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through Wikipedia's getting started guide, and that you complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial. These pages will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice and complete the tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them. If you have any questions or need help with anything, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:25, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Deposit Bond wiki

Hi,

Is it possible for me to update the Deposit Bond wiki with new company?

Thanks, Leon — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sab9y (talkcontribs) 09:27, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Sab9y, and thanks for leaving me a message here. Why would you want to add a company to the Deposit bond article? The article is about deposit bonds and what they are, not about any particular company that does business with deposit bonds... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:31, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Because, Canada is beginning to use it more and more and this company will help people to understand that deposit bonds are not just used in Australia and the US which says in the article, so I want to bring awareness to the Canadians that they have that possibility. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sab9y (talkcontribs) 09:38, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Sab9y - I don't believe that adding the company to this article would improve it. I think that it would hurt the article due to it looking like it was being used as an advertisement for that company, which is not what we want to do. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:13, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

MOS:Linkstyle

Just FYI, MOS:LINKSTYLE isn't relevant to the headers of an infobox in city articles. The example in LINKSTYLE uses a city name, but only shows how it can be linked and piped in article text; it doesn't use an infobox header as an example. While the general rule for naming US city articles (WP:USPLACE) has been "city, state" (except in a few instances where the city is listed by the AP as not needing the state), that doesn't necessarily mean the infobox header requires "city, state" as a header (though many do, mainly because the header can automatically have the article title), mainly because the state name serves as a natural disambiguation; it's not the full name of the city. There is no consensus about using "city, state" or just "city" in the infobox (as I mentioned it goes both ways), but it also isn't specifically forbidden by any other rule. --JonRidinger (talk) 18:01, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi JonRidinger! Thanks for leaving me a message here and for letting me know about this. I saw that a user (Trevor LaFleur) was making mass changes to articles about US Cities and removing the state from the infobox. From what I could recall at the time that I reviewed those edits, I thought that we kept the state in the infobox. However, this appears to not be the case. :-) Thanks for sharing the relevant guidelines with me and for the information on the consensus regarding this situation; I'll keep this in mind moving forward. :-) If you find any other articles that I reverted that you believe was correct with the changes that the user made, please feel free to revert them. I'm obviously not hard-pressed on what the infobox says in each article; I only thought that there was a consensus regarding this. I hope you have a great day and I wish you happy editing! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:30, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Question

Is it ever hard to be kind to everyone who asks you "Why did you revert my blatant spam? Why do you hate this company that is clearly non-notable?" every other day? JJP...MASTER![talk to] JJP... master? 19:59, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi JJPMaster! For me, it's not very hard at all, but I completely understand how it can be difficult for others - especially during heated moments. However, you have to understand that I'm used to being harassed, targeted by LTAs and socks, called every nasty and disgusting name that you could think of, emailed and messaged death threats, the whole works. Ignoring that stuff all-together isn't really that difficult; trolls will be trolls. Compared to all of that stuff, responding to someone who is new, confused, frustrated, angry, infuriated, or even irate and uncivil to me - is really a piece of cake. :-) Plus, I'm really not the type of person that lets things get them upset; I very rarely get angry at things. You can't let silly little things such as someone on the internet get to you and make you upset or emotional. It may not seem like it sometimes, but trust me when I say that learning to bite your tongue, always be civil toward other users, and kill everyone with kindness - even the blatant trolls or blatantly uncivil users - makes life on Wikipedia much more easier for you as well as others (in many aspects and ways). If the user you're dealing with is a troll, you're not giving them what they want and they'll eventually get bored and tired of trying to harass you and move on. If they're legitimately angry or frustrated, you're responding in a way that's positive and in an attempt to try and diffuse the situation. To me, that's a win/win scenario. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:43, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Two related questions

Hello Oshwah,
I'm not sure if you have answers to these two related questions, but I'll ask them anyway. First question: I would like to prevent the visual editor to display my edit summary history as I am typing in my edit summary. Second question: I would like to prevent the Wikipedia app on my iPhone from storing my search history and article viewing history. I would like to know to do these two things. If you could provide an answer soon, I would appreciate that. Interstellarity (talk) 20:30, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Interstellarity! I don't believe it is Wikipedia or the Visual Editor that fills in past edit summaries or stores your search history - it's your browser that's doing this. Have you tried going to your browser's settings and clearing your history, cache, and other stored objects? This should be the solution that you're looking for. You just need to clear all that stuff out in your browser settings. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:46, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
I emailed you a screenshot of what I am seeing on my screen using WeTransfer. I tried two browsers. The problem is the same. If you could take a look at the file I sent you, it might be in your inbox or spam folder, that would be great. Interstellarity (talk) 21:40, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Interstellarity - Sure, no problem. I haven't received it yet, but I should soon. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:56, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Interstellarity - I still haven't received your email. Can you try re-sending it? OshwahWiki@gmail.com is my address if you need it... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:37, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
I Yes Sent it to you in a different way as an attachment. Let me know if you receive it. Interstellarity (talk) 10:55, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
Hopefully you didn't forget to check. Just reminding you. Interstellarity (talk) 17:28, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Interstellarity - I received your email and replied. Did you get my response? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:50, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
I got your response and replied. I don’t check my Wikipedia email often. I usually prefer to do communication on-wiki unless the matter has to be kept private between us. I don’t think this situation falls into that category. That’s the way I usually prefer to do things around here. Hopefully you’ll understand!! :-) Interstellarity (talk) 20:47, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Interstellarity - No worries; that's the way I prefer it as well. :-) Did clearing your history and cache in your browser resolve the issue? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:29, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
No, I still have the same problems. Interstellarity (talk) 13:43, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Interstellarity - I naturally would like to doubt so, but it could be that the MediaWiki software is saving your past edit summaries if clearing you complete browser cache and history haven't made a change, and if using a different browser shows the same edit summary history... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:25, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

If it is built in the MediaWiki software, is there any way to fix it or should I report it to the developers? Interstellarity (talk) 10:37, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Interstellarity - If it's built into the MediaWiki software (I doubt it is), I don't see a setting to resolve that... I'm pretty sure it's the automatic form filling in the browser. Did you try clearing auto-fill settings for forms in your browser? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:07, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
I tried that and it didn’t work. Can you try it on your end and check to see if the visual editor uses your edit summary history when typing in the edit summary for your edit? Try making a dummy edit. Let me know if you have luck. Interstellarity (talk) 19:23, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Something odd in move discussion

Hi Oshwah, against my better judgement, I decided to post an RM at Talk:Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority#Requested move 21 March 2021, rather than simply to move the page directly per COMMONNAME. Now IPs are coming out of the wordwork to oppose the move, mainly because of Marta (footballer). I'm concerned that we may have some off-wiki canvassing that may derail what should be an obvious COMMONNAME move. Other details are in my nomination and in my responses in the discussion. I may be being paranoid (I'm already quite "an noid", so getting a "pair of noids" isn't a big step for me) :) Could you keep an eye on this? Thanks. BilCat (talk) 00:52, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi BilCat! I don't think you have much to worry about, but sure - I can try and keep an eye on things. If things start to get out of control, let me know and I'll be happy to take a look. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:56, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

"Hotties Run on Dunkin"

So I just wanted to say that I think this addition to the Dunkin' Donuts page is in fact relevant and constructive information. Hot Girl Summer is coming up soon, and I think it's really important to let all the hotties know that hotties run on Dunkin' so they can get their summer bods ready. Idk, just something to think about I guess.... Thanks <3 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.82.7.221 (talk) 01:03, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Your protection

Hi RandomCanadian! I protected the article to put a stop to the disruption and edit warring that was going on - not to choose sides or say who was "correct" or not. I only set it for 24 hours, and I might even shorten it to just 12 hours... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:58, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi [[User:Oshwah|~Oshwah~]. Thanks a lot for protecting the page. I would ask if possible to leave the 24h setting as I'm going to sleep late in the night here @CET, after the European qualifiers of tonight and this hectic editing that wouldn't even allow me to post as the talk page had changed meanwhile... At least Canadian acknowledges he is needing a break, it really looked like it. I also couldn't understand what he was so enraged from the start... I'm just stumbling on this issue that apparently is going on with anonymous editor/updaters and I would propose to reset the discussion as it seems quite clear that this so-called consensus was done without any discussion (and actually on 2 different, external places, one of which is this FOOTY thing, all but the talk page where I tried to do things by the book). 2A01:E0A:4FA:7460:3999:4717:24ED:2EE7 (talk) 03:01, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi there! Please, please know that this full protection doesn't just mean that users can just continue what they're doing on the article as soon as it expires. You need to discuss the matter on the article's talk page, listen to RandomCanadian's concerns, and come to a consensus with him/her. Edit warring is not okay, and you were doing this on the article before I stepped in and protected it. Edit warring is a blockable offense; it's disruptive and it doesn't contribute positively to the encyclopedia when we do this. Please take the time and work things out with RandomCanadian; it sounds like there is a previous consensus that he/she is aware of that you should be aware of that is the reason behind the edits and reverts. That's up to you to two to work out; the thing that I care about is that discussion takes place and disruption is kept off of the article, and I trust that you will do this. One way or another, the edit warring will not continue. If that means that you work things out - perfect! I hope that this is what happens! :-) If that means that I have to impose blocks to keep that from happening, then I have to do what I need to do - it's my responsibility and I will do what's needed to stop disruption. I sincerely hope that you choose to work things out. :-) Thanks, and have a good night. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:31, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
I picked the Wikiproject talk page cause that's better frequented (and even there, it got only the attention of a few editors; so I guess it would have gotten even less on the article talk page) - that is the better place when the page is clearly not very well watched. Hopefully don't have to do an RfC for something like this. Anyway, indeed, hoping that things are worked out in the end. Cheers, RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 03:41, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
RandomCanadian - You might want to let this IP user know where it is in case he/she hasn't found it. Just leave a user talk page message and point them to it. This'll help get the ball rolling and hopefully you two can work things out. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:43, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I left an explicit link to Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#World_Football_Elo_Ratings, so hopefully we can have further discussion there. Cheers, RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 03:45, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
RandomCanadian - Perfect! I'll leave everything in your capable hands then. If you need anything, let me know and I'll be happy to help. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:52, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
The protection's nearly over; the IP has not participated any further at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#World_Football_Elo_Ratings beyond what they said before the page was protected; and now we have even more editors agreeing with the existing consensus... Would be inappropriate to link to a humour page unironically, but this time... Cheers, RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 01:27, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
RandomCanadian - LOL, I understand that feeling. :-) If the IP user resumes edit warring after the protection expires, let me know and I'll be happy to step in and put a kibosh to it. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:29, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Tornado outbreak of March 16–18, 2021

The dispute in question has already been resolved, and all parties have reached a compromise. Please see the talk page. Total protection of this article is unreasonable. United States Man (talk) 02:54, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi United States Man! Thanks for leaving me a message here. Am I looking at the right talk page discussion here? I saw that there was a dispute on the draft page here, and that HurricaneCovid self-reverted his/her edit because (according to the edit summary) a compromise was reached. I didn't see that this was the case on the article. This is why I applied temporary full protection to it. Did I miss something? Let me know. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:03, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
I am still concerned that there is some bad blood between everyone involved in this based on what I saw in off-wiki chats. I feel that the compromise seemed to be "forced" after 3RR was violated by one of the involved parties. It was more of "an acceptance because I have no choice while continuing to argue for the original position out of the public sphere" kind of a deal. I think a time-out of some kind would be beneficial for everyone involved so the dust can settle. NoahTalk 03:07, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Yes, I believe in that self-revert, HurricaneCovid was indicating that a compromise had been reached at Tornado outbreak of March 16–18, 2021. We had a discussion on the talk page (which you have seen) as several users were against the changes being made. I offered an easy solution (supported by me and two others), which is in a consistent manner with other tornado outbreak articles. HurricaneCovid agreed that it was a good compromise, and no other edits were made to challenge the compromise. That is why I feel the dispute had already solved itself and full protection was a bit overzealous. Thanks! United States Man (talk) 03:09, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
@Hurricane Noah: Side note: I do not get involved with chats off wikipedia and haven't ever, so I was unaware of the discussion going on off-site. I still am opposed to full protection because it is possible routine editing will need to be done soon since this is a new outbreak page. United States Man (talk) 03:11, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
United States Man - I apologize if you feel that my administrative action fully protecting the article was overzealous. It was not my intent to instill that thought at all. My reason for protecting the article was to stop the edit warring, direct everyone involved to discuss the matter on the article's talk page, and come to a consensus. That's what I care about. :-) So long as everyone agrees that the dispute has reached a consensus, I'll be happy to remove the protection on the article. Hurricane Noah, HurricaneCovid, MarioProtIV - Do any of you have concerns if I remove the full protection from the Tornado outbreak of March 16–18, 2021 article? Has the dispute been resolved? Let me know. It looks like Hurricane Noah still has concerns, as indicated above... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:16, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
I didn't mean you were overzealous :). I was meaning the full page protection request may have been. You were just performing an admin duty. I've seen you around here and there for years and have a good deal or respect for you. United States Man (talk) 03:19, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
United States Man - Oh, I understand what you meant, and I appreciate your kind words. :-) I just want to double check that everyone involved with the dispute is okay with removing the full protection. If they are, I'll be happy to take the gold lock off the front gate and let you guys/ladies have at it and edit the article. Personally, I hope that's that happens - I'd like to be able to call this case closed and let you all edit the article again. :-) I prefer peaceful resolution over edit warring and dispute. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:22, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
I agree with United States Man in that the edit warring is resolved. We have come to a compromise and I am fine with removing page protection. 🌀HurricaneCovid🌀 (contribs) 12:58, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
HurricaneCovid, United States Man - Awesome! That's great news! I've removed the full protection from the article. I appreciate you all for working things out. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:24, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Reverted posting for improper reason is not vailid

I got the message that you basically deleted my addition to the Deep Blue Chess Wiki. The statement is that what I wrote was not constructive.... That is absolutely incorrect. I pointed out that Deep Blue Chess Program commonly known as a Chess AI cheats. That IBM admitted that the program cheats and I gave reference where you can find where IBM admitted to the cheat. I also gave a second reference to the AlphaGo team in their documentary for how the program worked for the game of Go, gave a brief explanation of how AlphaZero was constructed and how the program worked as it was based off of Deep Blue. I then quoted the International Chess Federation Rules of Chess where I explained exactly how Deep Blue broke the rules.

If a person wanted to know if the wins by Deep Blue are valid, then they would see the reference that Deep Blue was challenged for cheating. But the Wikipedia post it does not explain what the cheat actually was or the rules making it cheating. All I did was explain exactly what the cheat Deep Blue and all current Simulator/ Chess AI programs are doing. It also gives explanation of why IBM refused to play again and abide by Chess Federation Rules. It also gives reason why All matches after the cheat accusation why Media style contracts are used today rather than the official Chess Federation rules. Even AlphaZero in matches against grand masters currently today does not play under the International Chess Federation Rules like all humans must. Having the knowledge of how Deep Blue works and how all other following programs based off of Deep Blue work is not improper or invalid posting. It is wrong to allow a post to make claims that are not correct by allowinh the claim true AI nor is any victories recorded against humans are valid under known chess rules.

So, I respectfully request you let the post I gave stay because it does educate and give context and methods of why Deep Blue is not a true AI but nothing more than a simulator. I praised Deep Blue for being a very impressive simulator. Just not a legit Rule following AI program. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.209.163.8 (talkcontribs) 03:00, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi there, and thanks for leaving me a message here. Regarding your edit to Deep Blue (chess computer): The reference you provided is not a reliable source at all, and the content you added remains largely unsourced and without any references to reliable sources. This is why I removed the content that you added. If it's widely known that IBM programmed their algorithm to cheat in order to win, there would certainly be numerous amounts of reliable sources that you can use to cite this information. Please review the guideline on reliable sources that I linked you to, and let me know if you have any questions. I'll be more than happy to answer them and help you. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:11, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Sockpuppet trail

Hello again, Oshwah,

I was looking at some pages tagged for speedy deletion because they were the work of User:Obituarian, a sockpuppet of User:Alvalade XXI. So, I was looking into Alvalade XXI and he was very active on the Portuguese Wikipedia. When I looked at his account there, he was marked as a sockpuppet of User: HRO'Neill which in turn was a sockpuppet of User:G.-M. Cupertino (see Meta page). There's an extensive SPI on this user at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/G.-M. Cupertino so I don't know if you should link this up to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Alvalade XXI. I was wondering why Alvalade XXI was marked as a LTA and I guess this is why. Liz Read! Talk! 05:00, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Liz! Thanks for letting me know about this. I'll take a look today and see if we need to merge the SPI reports. I hope you're doing well, and I wish you happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:25, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Vandalism on Yamato people article

Hello Oswah, a new user has started to change and include large amounts of unrelated topics/content into the article Yamato people and remove other parts without stating a reason. Possibly a single purpose account or motivated by Korean nationalism. Could you please take a look and take action. He refuses to use the talk page. He now started to accuse me of being another user which he reverted as well. Thank you in advance and a nice day. 46.125.250.70 (talk) 07:16, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

He's trying to talk here and there using IP, because he was caught trying to manipulate the article using sock puppets. "I don't like your edit" doesn't mean unrelated. He is my fellow countryman, but it seems he's too addicted to Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jejuminjok (talkcontribs) 07:45, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Well, it seems we have reached a consensus. Thank you.46.125.250.70 (talk) 08:15, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi there! It sounds like you've managed to work things out? If so, I'll hold off on doing anything. Let me know if I still need to take a look at things. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:27, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
I just took a look at the article's history. Jejuminjok, if I had caught this the other day when the edit warring was going on, both of you would've been blocked from editing that article. Please remember that edit warring is disruptive, and that you're supposed to work things out on the article's talk page. The article's history is now a mess and full of reverts between the two of you. That's not cool; we need to avoid doing this in the future. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:54, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
Hello, Thank you for your concern. Please check out the reference he's using, when you have a chance. He's hiding behind his ID to distort the article, and writes a totally opposite conclusion on Wikipedia from the reference he is using. For instance, He's using an article, "Genetic structure, divergence and admixture of Han Chinese, Japanese and Korean populations" as a reference, which concludes that " although similar in appearance, Han Chinese, Japanese and Korean are different in terms of genetic make-up, and the difference among the three groups are much larger than that between northern and southern Han Chinese." HOWEVER, he writes on the Wikipedia article as if the reference shows "Chinese, Japanese, and Korean" are indistinguishable. He clearly has a mal-intention to distort the article, and for that, he's using multiple IDs.
I guess we have to do something about it. Jejuminjok (talk) 14:07, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi Jejuminjok! I apologize for the late response to your message here. It looks like the article has been extended confirmed protected, so this shouldn't cause any more problems. If there are still issues, please let me know and I'll be happy to look into it. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:52, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Arcade (Song)

Hello, Oshwah. You reversed my edit of the article about the song "Arcade" and invited me to a conversation in a personal message. I just want to say that I've found only one link to YouTube on this page, so the added second link to a page with text and nice chords looked good. Perhaps you know better what is more correct; but I didn't mean anything bad. See you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.170.75.66 (talk) 13:12, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Heymatey2021! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your request. Unfortunately, I cannot take your word for it and change the bithdate on the article. Someone "citing themselves" as a source, or citing their experience, relationships, associations, or even their own publications constitutes original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. I can change the birthdate if you're able to link me to a reliable source showing that the article subject's birthdate is wrong. Are you able to provide that for me? Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:06, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duncan_baronets

I linked to photos of grave monuments (that I took) of his first wife and children, and then of his own (and second wife) that show he chose the unknown title SURR and not SIR. I don't know why he did this but these photos prove that he did. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iamaran (talkcontribs) 01:25, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Iamaran! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your input regarding the edit you made to Duncan baronets. Unfortunately, your edits to the article constitute original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. In short, original research refers to someone "citing themselves", whether it be their personal relationships, experience, associations, or even published works. Wikipedia articles and their content must be attributable to reliable sources. If you can locate a source that is reliable, you shouldn't have an issue making the change to the article and it wouldn't be a problem at all. Otherwise, we can't publish the content that you're trying to add without it.
Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through Wikipedia's getting started page and that you complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any more edits or take on any major tasks around here. These pages will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice and complete the tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope that you enjoy your stay and that you become a long-time experienced editor with us! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:43, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Two gravestones are not reliable sources!? Literally published in stone! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Iamaran (talkcontribs) 01:47, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Iamaran - You mean the two pictures of gravestones that you took? No, that would not be considered a reliable source. Check the guideline page that I linked you for more information, and let me know if you have any questions about it. I'll be happy to answer them. Again, I highly advise that you go through Wikipedia's getting started page and that you complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial. They'll be very helpful to you - I promise! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:51, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
I take your point completely, but the problem with the reliable source that I've now added is that it doesn't show that SURR not SIR was a deliberate decision and not, for example, a spelling mistake. SURR on two grave monuments in different churchyards shows much more intent and richness than the usual sources.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Iamaran (talkcontribs) 02:35, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Iamaran - We have to trust reliable sources above all else. If anything, I'd believe that the reliable source is correct than a photo of a grave that we cannot verify. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:08, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Reverting my edit

Hi you recently reverted my edit on the common misconceptions page on the grounds that it was not 'constructive' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_common_misconceptions) My edit was indeed constructive and I'd like you to refrain from this frivolous edit warring in the future Thanks82.0.158.124 (talk) 01:51, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi there! I didn't consider your edit an improvement to the article. It appeared to be a "misconception" that wasn't common, and it wasn't referenced by any reliable sources. Remember that content must be attributable to a reliable source. Please review the guidelines that I've linked you to and let me know if you have any questions. :-) Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:54, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Do you handle rev/deletion of copyright violation?

Hi Oshwah, I submit the recent edits at Michael Maltzan, which copied from his web page verbatim. Thanks, Bob 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 03:31, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Bob! I took a look at the history of the article for you, and I went ahead and rev del'd the revisions by that IP user. There is a template here that you can use to request revision deletion of edits that are violations of copyright. You just add the diff IDs to the template, and it'll put it on the top of the article for an administrator to review. In this situation, you should be all set. :-) Let me know if you need anything else, and I'll be happy to help! Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:37, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

I have a lot of pages on my watchlist (which, speaking of watchlist, I need to go through and clear it out and clean it up); I'll do my best to keep a look out. Could you take a look at a user?

Hi and thank you for protecting Big Brother Canada (season 9) before I could go to WP:RFPP! Could you look at user IkaWong? I normally don't do this but a lot of their edits to that article are vandalism and the user has extended-confirmed status. Hi Laterthanyouthink! I noticed that, but they didn't disclose their actual age (thank goodness). They could either be being literal or figurative with that statement, so I'll leave it alone for now. If that changes, do let me know. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:07, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Okay, sure, thanks Oshwah. I'm not sure what all the guidelines say in this respect, but I noticed that you were on the list of overseers, so just thought I'd alert you. :-) Laterthanyouthink (talk) 23:54, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Laterthanyouthink - No problem! If someone states on their userpage (or puts an equivalent birthdate) that they're 15 years old or younger, I'll remove and suppress the content. That's what I will generally do. Also, you'll want to email me oversight requests in the future instead of posting them here. Over 1000 editors have this page on their watchlist, which means that they're notified as soon as anyone makes an edit here. If you post confidential requests (such as oversight requests) here, you'll most definitely trigger the Streisand effect, as editors will quickly run over here and look at the content before it becomes restricted for them to see. Just figured I'd let you know. :-) Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great weekend and happy editing! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:41, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
Okay, will do in future, thanks Oshwah. (It was awkward doing it on my clunky old tablet earlier - and hence my note about removing this whole conversation if you think fit!). Have a great weekend yourself! Laterthanyouthink (talk) 00:50, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Nikki Tamboli Biography

Sir, I think that external link (https://globalzonetoday.com/nikki-tamboli/) helps to Wikipedia users because that website write biographies of celebs in Hindi and also there motive is to provide biographies in Hindi for the Indian Readers so the readers can read their favorite celebs biography in local language. Hope, you find it helpful. Thanks & Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.89.159.43 (talk) 04:06, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) To be honest, that website doesn't appear to be a reliable source. It looks like an aggregator site that takes information from everywhere, regardless of reliability, and doesn't appear to have an editorial board. I don't think Wikipedia should be linking to it. BilCat (talk) 23:36, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Reduction in protection

Hello Oshwah, hope you are doing good. This draft Draft:Smruthi Venkat is currently protected from recreating because it was deleted thrice. But the subject has now recieved some significant coverage combined from multiple sources and I have also added some sources from Tamil language sites to establish notabililty. So I am requesting to remove the protection so that I can move into mainspace after reviewing. Regards. Kichu🐘 Need any help? 09:44, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kashmorwiki! It looks like the draft has been re-created and the protection has been removed, so the problem seems to be resolved. Let me know if this isn't the case or if I can help you with anything else. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:18, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, are you saying it has been moves into draftspace. But Im not seeing so. It is still showing as waiting to be reviewed for me. Kichu🐘 Need any help?
Kashmorwiki - If I remember correctly, once a page gets moved to the draft page or crated into a draft page that's SALTed (by someone who can do so), that protection expires due to being created by someone who can do so. Is this not the case that you're seeing? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:18, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Yes, actually I forgot the term salting. My bad :) Im currently unable to accept the draft under this name because it is protected from getting recreated.Kichu🐘 Need any help? 05:22, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Kashmorwiki - Ah, I now see what's going on... The Smruthi Venkat page is SALTed. At this time, is the draft page acceptable to be moved into the mainspace? Has it been reviewed and approved? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:10, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
I will say yes in my opinion. I got some Tamil sources giving her in-depth coverage. She had some notable roles in multiple number of movies. Another reviewer also has the same opinion as mine. You can see the comment in this draft. Its far far better from the previous versions. Regards. Kichu🐘 Need any help? 06:43, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Kashmorwiki - Okay, I've removed the creation protection from the article page. You can now move the draft there. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:35, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Past vs present articles

Hello Oshwah,
I hope you mind that I ask another question. I would like to know how much time should pass when deciding how history impacted it. I think it is safe to say that any events that happened before the 20th century are easy to write about with reliable sources since as far as we know, there is noone alive today that was born in the 19th century. There was a recent amendment to the WP:AP2 case which I proposed to move the original date from 1932 to a later date. The date that was decided was to be 1992. I would like to discuss possible dates that could mark the border between current events and recent. First, anything that has happened less than 100 years ago (1921), is probably not the best timeframe since we already have people that have made their mark on history and easy to write about such as Adolf Hitler, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Albert Einstein. Second, anything that happened less than 50 years ago (1971), might sound like a reasonable option, but things such as Ronald Reagan, the Iranian Revolution and the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests while a little bit controversial are still fairly easy to write about. I think anything less than 25 years ago (1996) is a fairly reasonable date when things start becoming current. So my question would be, how long do you think we have to wait to get a clear perspective on how an event affected the world so that we can write about it easily with reliable sources? I appreciate your response. Interstellarity (talk) 23:21, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Interstellarity! Thanks for your message. That's an interesting and good question. What made you decide that the year 1992 was a better date? I think that "the line" would largely not be a simple date, but would depend on the article subject and the availability of reliable sources that cover the subject that state that it had a significant impact on history. I wouldn't know of a date that we just just throw out there that would represent a good "line"... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:27, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
When I was filing an amendment request, I requested that the date be changed from the original 1932 to a later date. I was neutral on what the date should be, but I originally suggested 1944. It was the arbitrators along with community input that they chose 1992 considering the lack of discretionary sanctions before 1992. I agree that this is a better cutoff date than the one I originally suggested. I thought that the original 1932 date was too broad of a range to be sanctioned. I think in general, the majority of discretionary sanctions are related to 21st century matters and living people and recently deceased people. Although dependent on the article subject, I think in general for most article subjects, any events that happened 25 years ago or earlier. I think a good threshold for most article subjects on recently desceased people would be 1 year after their death or earlier. I would like your insight on what you think would be the best threshold for the majority of article subjects and people. Interstellarity (talk) 21:24, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
Interstellarity - That's a really tough one. A 25 year cut-off doesn't seem so bad at first, but look at what things that recent world leaders have done what would certainly change history. I just don't think that a fine with a date cutoff is going to ultimately work. It depends on the article subject's work, experience, impact, and (most importantly) the availability of reliable sources that point out the article subject's impact on history. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:23, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you so much your your answers. It really helps. Interstellarity (talk) 10:35, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Interstellarity - You're very welcome! I hope that my responses were helpful... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:36, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Urgent! Need your help!!

Dear Oshwah:

My name is Emily, I am an editor of Wikipedia and a graduate student at SFSU. I am contacting you because there is a serious problem with a wiki editor (BUBBAJOE1333456)who has been vandalizing a certain wikipage (LUKE BRUGNARA) for two years. Specifically, BUBBAJOE123456 has rewritten this page in its entirety with slanderous/prejudiced/unbalanced edits against LUKE BRUGNARA while deleting and banning editors that try to restore the page, or re-edit the wikipage to a balanced representation of LUKE BRUGNARA (this wiki page has been nearly unchanged for over five years until BUBBAJOE123456 attacked/vandalized this wikupage on March 1, 2019, and systematically blocking/banning any attempts to correct it).

Obvious SLANDEROUS errors on LUKE BRUGNARA's page include the FALSE STATEMENT in the opening paragraph and heading that LUKE BRUGNATA is imprisoned..This is FALSE, as Brugnsra was released from prison in November 2020 (see BOP.gov inmate locator - Luke brugnara: released Nov. 24,. 2020)....other vandalization includes deleting references to Dr. Carlo Pedtetti affirming Brugnata's DaVinci is by Leonardo daVinci ,(see FORBES Drc 3003; see Wikipedia page on daVinci)...

In summation, my edits from today are very accurate, and cited and balanced..BUBBAJOE123456 deleted all of my edits and restored false/sla detous statements about Luke Brugnata because he is apparently a personal enemy of Brugnara; or simply a problematic person who uses Wikipedia to harm/sla der others..notwithstanding, I request that you restore my CORRECTIONS/EDITS from today and ban BUBBAJOE123456 from Luke Brugnara's page and lock the existing edits from further vandalization..Thank you.

Hi EmilyChen0! Thanks for leaving me a message here regarding BubbaJoe123456. From what I see in the article's history, this user has been removing unsourced content and making sure that the article is properly sourced with its content. I do not see where this user is engaging in vandalism as you describe. Maybe BubbaJoe123456 can respond and help explain any reverts that they might have done. If you have evidence of this user violating policy, please respond and provide me the diffs so that I can look at them. I'll be happy to do so. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:15, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

CSD and a conflicting topic ban

Hi, I'm not sure if you're watching Light show's talk, but they are currently topic banned from BLPs and I just CSD requested an article they created (I don't think they created it in violation of the topic ban, I only saw the relevant information from the talk page discussion above me.) I've notified them, but is there anything I or they could do to communicate any concerns over the CSD without violating the topic ban further? PS; thanks for the IP help earlier! Happy vandalism fighting, Sennecaster (talk) 04:09, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Sennecaster! Thanks for leaving me a message regarding this user. According to the editing restrictions page, Light show is indefinitely banned from uploading images, and indefinitely topic banned from all articles related to Stanley Kubrick, broadly construed. I don't see where this user is topic banned from all BLP articles. Can you show me where you saw this so that I can take a look? Can you also point me to the page that the user created so that I can also take a look there? I'd like to see what's going on. Thanks. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:30, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Oshwah, I believe Light show is reviewing the work right now and is going to reply on their talk. Elizabeth Economy is the concern, but I want to give the contributors time before I immediately tag an angry CCI admin who immediately sees a G12 and nukes. It's really late for me so I'm hoping to wrap this up quickly. I misinterpreted their topic ban, just hoping everything goes smoothly. Fingers crossed! Sennecaster (talk) 04:33, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Sennecaster - Okay, fair enough. :-) If they're not topic banned from WP:BLP articles, then there's no violation of policy. If there's copyright concerns on the article and enough to where G12 is needed, then by all means - nominate it! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:37, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
It's already nommed! The potential copyvio category is slowly decreasing... It never will be gone will it? Sennecaster (talk) 04:39, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Sennecaster - Much like AIV, UAA, RFPP, ANI, SPI, and the many other noticeboards that I patrol and deal with, it's a place that never truly stop. But hey, that's what makes patrolling the noticeboards fun (at least to me). There's always something new and something interesting to have to deal with. ;-) Let me know if you need help with anything else; I'm available and happy to lend you a hand. Have a great night, and I'll (most likely) see you online tomorrow. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:43, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Confused

Seeing as how the comment which I added refers to the content of the film, the source in this case would be the film itself. The part about Hemingway claiming to walk out within the first twenty five minutes of the film was contributed by someone else, located on this same page, directly above the quote attributed to Hemingway. So the source for this information has already been provided. It is therefore worth noting that these two sources (the film itself, and a comment made about the first 25 minutes of the film) are not compatible. So to some degree, the real issue lies in the fact that these two incompatible sources of information co-exist on the same Wikipedia page. What is the protocol for such an inconsistency? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.136.121.100 (talk) 14:44, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Perec "Peter" Rachman

Hello, Oshwah,

thank you for contacting me. I decided to make a correction in Rachman's origin because present one does not explain in full his roots. He was born to Jewish family as Perec Rachman. His name as well as surname is not Polish but Jewish, nevertheless Wikipedia description does not clarify this. A good example of a full information about the origin of a person might be Chagall's: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Chagall: "Marc Chagall[a] (born Moishe Shagal; 6 July [O.S. 24 June] 1887 – 28 March 1985) was a Russian-French artist of Belarusian Jewish origin". Please, do change Rachman's description for the same as Chagall's, or I can do that as well (please, do instruct). The present description suggest that Rachman was a Pole, while in fact he was a Jew born in the then Poland, now Ukraine. It is an important fact as Jews born in Poland before second world war usually did not considered themselves as Poles. Many of them did not speak Polish at all but Jidish, and many would not like to be recognised as Poles. And I am saying that as a descendant of Jewish family from Poland. Furthermore, after Poland lost its eastern part after world war two to, among others, Ukraine, he did not recognised himself as a Pole and did not took Polish passport, but decided to remain stateless. I would be very grateful if you could recognise true origin of Rachman as present inaccuracy does not express fairness to Polish community in the UK and Poles living in Poland, as well as it is not fair for Rachman's fellow Jews living in London.

Thank you in advance for the understanding. Kind regards Emilia Stankiewicz ZiggyStardust77 (talk) 17:24, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi ZiggyStardust77, and thanks for leaving me a message regarding your edits (1, 2, 3) to Peter Rachman. Do you have a reliable source that you can cite in the article to support your changes. Hi Pickle the cool! Thanks for the message, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'd visit this help page for how to get started with creating an article. Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through Wikipedia's getting started page and that you complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. It will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. I think there is a piece of wrong information in a movie article.

Hello! First of all, thank you for your cooperation. Recently, I made a little change at Raya and the Last Dragon in sequel part. There was written that Disney will proceed with a lesbian relationship between Raya and Namaari. I think this piece of information is not authentic. The reference used to describe that plot doesn't contain any interview or video of the actress. Disney didn't officially release any statement for the sequel of this movie. If this is a rumor about the sequel, I think this is not a polite way to describe a good family movie. Especially when there is no authentic clue that Disney will proceed with a lesbian relationship. It is kinda offended to Disney fans. I hope you can understand that there shouldn't be this type of prediction in a family movie. Thanks again for your amazing contribution to this encyclopedia. numanzamandipuu (talk) 18:08, 30 March 2021 (UTC)numanzamandipuu

Hi Numanzamandipuu, and thanks for leaving me a message with your concerns. If the content isn't referenced by a reliable source, go ahead and remove the content. Remember to explain your changes using the edit summary so that other users will understand what you're doing and why. The content that you attempted to remove does not say that "Disney will proceed with a lesbian relationship between Raya and Namaari" - you took it out of context. It states that Kelly Marie Tran, who is the voice actor of the character Raya in the film, "holds the hope" that Disney will do this. :-) Make sure that you fully review content and that their references are reliable before you remove it. Removing something because it could be potentially offensive to its readers isn't a reason to remove something from an encyclopedia if the content is encyclopedic. Remember that Wikipedia is not censored. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Thanks - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:05, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Why is THE VOICE SEASON 20 protected? I was about to add Monday's ratings and couldn't! — Preceding unsigned comment added by CageToRattle (talkcontribs) 23:30, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Sennecaster! Thanks for leaving me a message about this, and I apologize for the delay responding here. I've been busy this last week and I'm just now getting caught up with all of the Wikipedia messages, notifications, pings, and emails I received while I was away. :-) No need to apologize! It's part of my responsibilities and I'm happy to help! It looks like another admin has taken care of this rev del request, so we're good to go! Thanks for going through all of the copyright violation reports, and for spending so much time in that area. It's extremely helpful, and I hope you stick around and become a long-term experienced editor here. You've learned a lot and have contributed a ton since you've started; we need editors like you! Take off your coat and stay with us! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:08, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
