The following is a list of minor characters in the manga and anime series One Piece:

Amazon

The elderly gatekeeper of Skypiea. She lets people in even if they can't pay her exorbitant toll, but purposely fails to tell those that don't pay about the consequences for entering the city.

Boodle

Boodle (ブードル, Būdoru) is the mayor of the town that was attacked by Buggy the Clown early on in the series. He wears a suit of armor, and is quite fearless, risking his life (though he is outmatched) for the sake of his town. With the help of Luffy, Zoro and Nami (and you could count the help of the dog Chouchou), Boodle is able to defeat Buggy's crew and drive them out of the town, even though he was knocked out by Luffy so he doesn't get in the way.

Camie

A mermaid that appeared in the Hatchan's Sea-Floor Stroll mini-series. She first appears after being saved by Hatchan from inside the mouth of a big fish alongside her Starfish friend. She soon becomes friends with Hatchan and is later rescued again by him after she is kidnapped by some old Fish-Men friends of his. She is last seen in the final part of the mini-series at the grand opening of his floating takoyaki restaurant. She is one of only two Merfolk featured so far in the series.

Camie is named after the Japanese word Kame which means "Turtle"

Carne

Carne is one of the main cooks from the floating restaurant ship, Baratie, and is good friends with Patty since both applied for restaurant cooks together. He and Patty became very essential in defending the Baratie when Don Krieg attempted to take the restaurant by force.

Like most of the Baratie's cooking staff, Carne prides himself on being a fighting chef; when the restaurant comes under attack by the Krieg armada, he and the other chefs take up arms to defend it. He fights with a large extended knife.

In the 4Kids dub, Carne is given a very heavy Mexican accent not unlike Cheech Marin.

Carne is a Spanish word for Meat which is one of Luffy's favourite foods.

Chabo

A young boy from Gosa village, he wanted to kill Arlong to avenge his father's death, but Nami paid him and told him to leave. He attacked Usopp, thinking that Usopp was a fish-man (due to Usopp's long nose), but Nojiko stopped him. He later called the Navy to come rescue the suvivors from Gosa but they were defeated by Arlong's crew. He brings Nojiko to the scene to see the Navy fight Arlong, but it is all in vain. However after the fall of Arlong Park, he decides to forget about avenging his father himself and celebrates with the rest of Cocoyashi Village.

Chaka

Chaka (チャカ), also known as "Chaka the Jackal", is one of two head guards in the Alabasta kingdom that serve under Igaram, the other being Pell. He is the acting captain of the royal guard in Igaram's absence. He ate the Inu Inu no Mi, Model Jackal (イヌイヌの実 モデル ジャッカル, Dog Dog Fruit: Model Jackal), a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that allows him to transform into a jackal or a human/jackal hybrid. He attacked Sir Crocodile outside of the Alubarna palace - first because Crocodile's utter lack of compassion angered him and to protect the country, and then in an attempt to protect Vivi and Kohza, as well as buy them time to put and end to the battle - but Crocodile easily defeated him both times.

Chimney

Chimney (チムニー, Chimunī) is the hyperactive granddaughter of Sea Train conductor Kokoro, and owner of the cabbit, Gonbe (which thinks it's a cat). She takes a liking to the Straw Hat Pirates instantly when the crew meets her outside of Water Seven. She also tends to notice things that others cannot, such as when she spotted Luffy wedged between two buildings (which is where he landed after Rob Lucci knocked him out of Galley-La Corporation Headquarters). She, along with Gonbe, later sneak aboard the prototype Sea Train, Rocketman, and accompany the Straw Hats, Franky Family, and Galley-La foremen to Enies Lobby.

As Kokoro is revealed to be a mermaid. Although Chimney doesn't seem to have any mermaid characteristics, she was able to save Luffy, who is 3 times her size, from drowning off screen.

Currently, she is in Water Seven.

Chou-Chou

Chou-Chou (シュシュ Shushu) is a dog from Port Town who guards a pet shop, day and night, unmoving, as it belonged to his dead master. But, still being loyal to his master, a friend of mayor Boodle, Chou-Chou kept guard over the pet shop.

When first meeting Monkey D. Luffy, Chou-Chou swallowed the key to cage Luffy was in at the time. Then Mohji and Richie appeared to search for Luffy, Zoro, and Nami. When Richie spotted the pet shop they headed for it to get a quick snack. Chou-Chou fought against Richie to defend the shop, but got beaten. In the end, he could only watch his master's pet shop burn to the ground. Luffy, out of his cage thanks to Richie, saw how sad the dog was for the loss of his only treasure, and defeated Mohji and Richie as payback for Chou-Chou. After the battle, Luffy presented Chou-Chou with a bag of dog food, the last one from his master's shop. Chou-Chou later helps the trio escape from the angry townspeople after Luffy reveals that he was the one who knocked out the mayor, as well as a pirate. Chou-Chou is last spotted in Buggy's mini story in volume 5. Chou-Chou is shown biting Mohji on his rear end.

Clover

Professor Clover

A professor and scholar from the Tree of Knowledge in Ohara, he helped Nico Robin become an official archaeologist. However, he forbade her from studying Ohara's Poneglyph, not wanting her to fall prey to the World Government like her mother Olvia did. Sadly, it was not to be as the World Government found out about Ohara's research and dispatched the CP9 to take care of them. Clover tried to persuade Robin to escape as the CP9 rounded the archaeologists up. The reason for this is that Clover spoke to the World Government regarding the scholar's findings in the Poneglyphs. He did not want Robin to know those results, for fear that she will also be targeted by the World Government.

Clover stated that before the World Government was formed, the Grand Line was ruled by an ancient kingdom. But they were wiped out by a group that would one day become the World Government. However before Clover could reveal the name, he was shot and mortally wounded. The Buster Call was then initiated and Navy ships began to assault Ohara . Clover, along with Olvia and the other scholars, stayed behind to save as many books as they can from the Tree of Knowledge for future generations. Afterwards, he and the scholars all stayed in the tree as it burned down around them, and as Ohara was destroyed.

Conis

Conis (コニス, Konisu) is a citizen of Skypiea who befriends Luffy and his crew after their arrival. She greets the Straw-Hats once they reach the island and introduces them to her peoples' customs. She is Pagaya's daughter and owner of a cloud fox, Suu. At first glance, Sanji thinks that she is an angel and predictably tries to woo her. Thus she becomes an important character in the Skypiea arc because of her interaction with the Straw Hat pirates. Once it is discovered that the crew has not paid Skypiea's exorbitant toll, however, she regretfully reports them to their "god" Enel, following the mandatory commands that he had placed upon her people. She makes up for her actions, however, by guiding the Going Merry through Upper Yard, warning her people of Enel's attack, and helping the Straw Hats back down to earth after they had defeated Enel.

When she is tense she bites her bottom lip like Nefertari Vivi. She is also an alternate support character for Sanji in One Piece Grand Adventure.

Crocus

Laboon's caretaker and overseer of the lighthouse that guides ships coming down from Reverse Mountain into the Grand Line. He is the one who explains to the Straw Hats how the Grand Line works, about Log Poses (Grand Compasses in the English version), Raftel (the last island of the Grand Line and supposed resting place of One Piece) and Laboon's situation. He also has a house inside Laboon when he's not working the lighthouse. He may have had a past connection with Gold Roger. He also has a running gag where he does a glare to increase tension, often for no particular reason. He was removed from the English dub.

Dalton

Dalton used to be a guard who served under King Wapol, but was opposed to Wapol's treatment of his subjects. He was seen with Wapol in Alabasta in a meeting with Princess Nefertari Vivi's father. He was inspired to rebel by Hiruluk. After seeing Hirluk's noble sacrifice, he turned against Wapol, but was subdued and thrown in prison, constantly mocked by Wapol and his henchmen, Chess and Kuromarimo. After Wapol abandoned his kingdom when Blackbeard invaded, Dalton took charge and kept the island from falling into disarray, soon gaining the trust of the people.

When Monkey D. Luffy and his crew came to Drum Island in search of a doctor to cure Nami of her illness during the mission to get Princess Nefertari Vivi to Alabasta Kingdom, they encountered Dalton and some men who thought they were here to rob the island. When asked about a doctor, the only one who could heal Nami was a witch named Dr. Kureha.

Even after Wapol returned and once again subdued him, the people and even the top 20 doctors continued to help out Dalton. He was later seriously wounded by Wapol because he defended the townsfolk from arrows lauched by one of Wapol's bodyguards. And he in turn then, even almost going to extreme measures such as planning to blow up Wapol's castle. Luckily, Luffy defeated Wapol and knocked him off the island, after which the people of Drum elected Dalton as their new king and renamed the island, Sakura Kingdom (inspiried from the special chemical created by Hilruk, which turned the snow pink).

He has eaten the Devil Fruit known as the Ushi Ushi no Mi, Model: Bison (ウシウシの実 モデル野牛(バイソン) Cow Cow Fruit, Model Bison) which gives him the ability to transform into a bison and into a half human/half bison form that resembles a minotaur. In the English anime the fruit is called the "Ox Ox Fruit" and the animal he turns to is an Ox.

Dorry & Broggy

The two legendary giants who fight an endless (some would say pointless) battle on Little Garden, an island in the Grand Line. Each giant has a bounty of 100,000,000 berries on their heads. The two of them battle with incredible passion and drive, the rules of Giant combat dicatating the fight must be fought to the death, though neither of them really remember why they started fighting in the first place (It was over a dispute on who had caught a larger prize on a hunting expedition). They are edited out in the English dub, by 4kids Entertainment, along with the entire Little Garden story arc. However, in the made-for-U.S. game One Piece: Grand Adventure, Broggy replaced Big Pan in the Davy Back Fight stage, which was renamed to a generic pirate ship. Both giants appeared in the English version of One Piece: Pirates' Carnival, with their own game.

They have been fighting for over 100 years, according to Oda when they started they were 58 years old (apparently in human years it would be 14) and therefore are at least 158 years old by the time Luffy and his crew met them.[1]

Trivia

  • They can be seen laughing in the background of the Little Garden stage in One Piece Grand Battle! SwanColluseum for the Wonderswan
  • Despite not being villains, Dorry and Broggy still have distinct laughs. Broggy's sounds like "Kah bah bah bah" while Dorry's sounds like "Gya gya gya gya". They retain these laughs in the English version of One Piece: Pirates' Carnival.
  • Surprisingly, Dorry and Broggy make an appearance in One Piece: Pirates' Carnival, despite being cut from the English dub of the anime (they have been kept in the English adaptation of the manga). Also, "Elbaf" has been changed to "Elbaph" in the game, altering its backwards spelling of "fable".

Doctor Blackbeard

A character in the Ace mini-story. Ace mistook him for Blackbeard and rammed him to the ground. When Ace saw his mistake he was thrown into the river by an angry Doctor Blackbeard and an angry cook that Ace did not pay.


Eyelashes

Eyelashes (マツゲ, Matsuge) was the camel who accompanied the Strawhats during the Arabasta Arc. He would only let Nami and Vivi ride, and in her admiration, Nami named him "Eyelashes". Refusing to let anyone else on, this prompted the rest of the crew to beat him up and label him as a pervert. He also disguised himself as Vivi by riding a Spot-Billed Duck and wearing a white cape. He was paired up with Usopp and got chased by Mr. 2. After the Arabasta Arc, Eyelashes was ordered to be given special treatment, as well as being allowed to join the Super Spot-Billed Ducks Squad (even though he's a camel).

Gaimon

Gaimon

Gaimon (ガイモン) is a character that gets his body imprisoned in an empty treasure chest after he loses his grip while scaling a small cliff on the mysterious Island of Rare Animals (Gold Island in the English anime) trying to find some treasure with his pirate crew. The crew leaves Gaimon stranded on the island. The treasure chest becomes his body and cannot be removed, however, he can still use his hands, head and feet. It takes 20 years for another person to find him.

After Gaimon shrinks when he gets stuck in the chest, he can no longer scale the cliff. He has to protect his treasures somehow, so he would use his gun and his spooky voice to drive away intruders. Monkey D. Luffy and the whole crew passes the trial and they begin to become friends. However, when Luffy finally gets to the top of the cliff, Gaimon realized that the treasure chests were empty too and he had been protecting a nonexistent "treasure" for 20 years. Then, he considers the animals as his treasures, and vows to protect them.

Chibi Buggy eventually meets, and befriends, Gaimon in the "Special Cover Miniseries".

Eiichirō Oda has stated that Gaimon is his favorite character to draw.

Gan Fall

Gan Fall (ガン・フォール, Gan Fōru), was the previous God of Skypiea. He strove to create peace between them and the Cyandians, and was close to doing so. However, before it could be achieved, Eneru attacked with his army, and soundly defeated Gan Fall and the Cyandians at the same time. Eneru then took the position of God of Skypiea for himself. Despite being ousted from his position, as the Sky Knight, Gan Fall still continuously patrols the land helping out those in need (such as Tony Tony Chopper when he was attacked by Shura, and later Nami against Hotori and Kotori). After Monkey D. Luffy defeated Eneru, the people of Skypiea begged him take back his rightful position, which he did.

His pet bird Pierre has eaten a Devil Fruit known as the Uma Uma no Mi (ウマウマの実, Horse Horse Fruit ) which enabled Pierre to turn into a pegasus or a full horse. Gan Fall uses Pierre and his Devil Fruit power to get around Skypiea. His name is romanized in One Piece Grand Adventure (and most likely the dub) as Gunfall. Also in the game, he is an alternate support character for Tony Tony Chopper.

Gan Fall mentioned at the end of Skypiea Arc that he had previously met Gold Roger over 20 years in ago the past.

Genzo

Genzo

The sheriff and mayor of Cocoyashi Village (Coco Village in the 4kids version), which is Nami's home town. He has had close ties with Nami and Nojiko since they were kids and he knew their adoptive mother, Belle-Mère, quite well. He also kept the town together after Arlong took over the island, making sure everyone was safe and able to pay his tax.

Genzo wears a pinwheel on his hat because he used to make Nami laugh when she was a baby (this pinwheel also inspired an attack for Luffy during their fight with Arlong). He played a role in rescuing Luffy after Arlong threw him into the ocean. All of Genzo's scars are from his first encounter with Arlong when he tried to stop him from taking Nami, he made Kuroobi cut every part of his body with a sword. He was also almost killed by Arlong for hoarding novelty swords, until Usopp saved him.

Genzo's pinwheel inspired Nami's new tattoo--a pinwheel to represent him with a tangerine to represent Belle-Mère. After Nami sails off with Luffy and crew, Genzo says he no longer needs his pinwheel, placing it by Bellemere's grave. The origin of the pinwheel is then revealed. Bell-Mere said that Nami cried when she saw Genzo because he looked scary, but then Genzo put his pinwheel on to make Nami laugh. It is revealed later in the manga that Luffy is very interested in the pinwheel, not even noticing the Navy who are trying to find Nami, just Genzo's pinwheel. However, this could be a put down in reference to Luffy's simple-mindedness.

In the American dub of One Piece, Genzo is played by Marc Diraison and speaks with a thick Italian accent.

Gonbe

Chimney's pet rabbit, who thinks he's a cat.

Goro

Toto's brother and Kohza's uncle in the Gedatsu mini-story. His dream was to open a hot springs resort, and he was able to do that with Gedatsu's help.

Higuma

Higuma was a mountain bandit, leader of a band of similar bandits. When Luffy was a child, the band swept into the town where Luffy lived and demanded grog, only to find that the last of it had been purchased by Red-Haired Shanks and his crew. Higuma personally insulted him before storming out of the town. After a short series of events, Higuma had kidnapped Luffy and started to take him to sea. This was interrupted by a Sea King, who proceeded to eat Higuma. He had a bounty of 8,000,000 that he was very proud of. He used his wanted poster to try to intimidate people.

Hiruluk

Hiruluk (ヒルルク Hiruruku; from German chirurg for “surgeon”; Hiriluk in the English anime) was a quack doctor from Drum Island and Tony Tony Chopper's father figure. After Wapol declared any doctor not under his rule to be outlaws, he and Doctor Kureha were the only free doctors left. He apparently knew more about Pyrotechnics than Medicine; he had more potent explosives than medicine and would more often hurt than heal his patients.

In his early days, Hiruluk was a thief who was diagnosed with a fatal illness. What he believed cured him was the serene vision of a grove of cherry trees. After being cured, he came to believe that there is no disease in the world that cannot be cured. He returned to Drum Island, the island he was born on, to help cure a dire sickness. Hiruluk's main dream was to cure the people of the island of their frozen hearts which had formed because of Wapol's selfishness; in order to do this, Hiruluk spent the last 30 years of his life trying to make cherry blossoms bloom in the snow-covered island.

In his final days, he was informed by Kureha the precise day of his eminent death. Hiruluk was originally the only one trusted and loved by Chopper. Overhearing the doctors' conversation, Chopper searched for a mushroom that would allegedly cure Hiruluk of his ailment. On his hunt for the mushroom, Chopper became horibly injured. Without Chopper realizing that it was actually poisonous, he eagerly presented the mushroom to Hiruluk. Hiruluk, after seeing the badly bruised and bloody Chopper, although realizing the mushroom's poisonous nature, prepared the mushroom for medicine as a sign of gratitude towards the reindeer. After seeing Chopper's kind heart, he then on wished for Chopper to also become a doctor.

As Hiruluk began to eat a soup made from the mushroom, he saw at his lab the reaction of an experiment had been working on to make the cherry blossom bloom. He finished the soup, ready to finish his dream.

Later that day, he is seen at Kureha's house. They heard that all of the Island's doctors were sick. He begged her to finish adminstering his medicine for cherry blossoms and to teach Chopper to become a doctor, knowing what her reaction will be. She blatently refused and forced him out of her house. He then headed torword the castle to help the other doctors.

He was tricked by Wapol into coming to the castle and was ambushed. At the Castle, he exclaimed how relieved he was that all the doctors were alright. He then gave one of the most touching speeches throughout the series, saying: "When does a man die? When he is hit by a bullet? No. When he suffers a disease? No. When he ate a soup made out of a poisonous mushroom? No. A man dies when he is forgotten!" He then mixes an explosive drink, to make sure he will not die because of Chopper's mushroom. A moment before drinking it, however, he raises his glass and says:

"This was truly a wonderful life!!"

And then he dies in a billowing explosion.

He never lived to see his dream come true, which was made a reality years later. Chopper had become a great doctor and Kureha and the people of Drum would use Hiruluk's final invention, a special chemical to turn snow pink, creating the illusion of cherry blossoms blooming in the snow.

Like many One Piece characters, Hiruluk has a distinct laugh, which sounds like "Eh eh eh eh eh!"

  • Note: While in other countries the names of One Piece minor characters are abbreviated, yet stay at least partialy loyal to their former form ("Montblanc Cricket"="Maron Cricket") his name in german, maybe thanks to the difficult pronunciation, is changed to "Doc Bader".
  • Trivia: Though it was never mentioned in the story, it was most likly Tuberculosis, which is a deadly lung infection. In most cases, the patient will cough up blood from the lungs. Tuberculosis is normally very difficult to cure, and treatment would take over 6 months.

Igaram

Captain of the royal guards, he is Chaka and Pell's boss. He and Princess Vivi infiltrated Baroque Works and manage to become Frontier Agents in order to learn the organization's true boss and objectives. He was known as Mr. 8 by most of the Baroque Works before being exposed, and introduces himself as Igarappoi when he is first seen in Whiskey Peak. Igaram fights with a saxophone that shoots bullets when played, and he also has small guns hidden in his hair that fire when he pulls on his neck tie. After he and Vivi were found out, he dressed up as Vivi to act as decoy while the Straw Hats helped Vivi get back to Alabasta. But Nico Robin (Miss All Sunday at the time) blew up his ship and he was presumed dead until the end of the Alabasta arc, where he emerged alive and well in Nanohana (which appears to be what Nico intended). He finally caught up with the rebellion carrying a witness, Kappa, who saw Mr. 2 Bon Clay remove his disguise as Cobra, the king of Alabasta, proof that the rebellion was started by Baroque Works and not by the faults of the king. He was again seen decoying as Vivi, during a speech to the people of Alabasta, so she could sneak away secretly to say goodbye to the Straw-Hats. Later in the Rainbow Mist Arc, he is seen placing Rainbow Mist Volume X on a shelf in Alabasta.

Johnny and Yosaku

Johnny and Yosaku are old friends and former bounty hunting partners of Roronoa Zoro. They first appear during the Baratie arc and stay in the story until the end of the Arlong arc, both times helping out the Straw Hats. They arrive on the scene after Usopp and Luffy unknowingly shoot at the tiny island they're on for target practice. The partners had to stop because Yosaku was suffering from scurvy, but Nami was able to diagnose and treat him.

Kappa

Kappa is a young Alabasta child who wanted to join the Rebellion against the king; however, Koza refused to let him join because he was so young. Kappa later fell upon the secret of Baroque Works and learned that the king was framed. Daz Bones and Miss Doublefinger attacked him to keep him quiet. Igaram later finds him, and Kappa soon tells all of Alabasta about what was really going on. It was his eyewitness that officially ended the war.

Karoo

Karoo (カルー Karū), also spelled "Carue," is Vivi's pet spot-billed duck, a fast-footed riding bird (one of the fastest modes of transportation available in Alabasta). His role during Vivi's time with the Straw Hat Pirates is mostly that of comic relief, although he does relay valuable information to Chopper from time to time, helps Luffy and Usopp to defeat the Baroque Works agents in Little Garden and saves Vivi from Mr. 2 Bon Clay in Alabasta. His name comes from the Japanese word "karugamo," which means "spot-billed duck."

Kaya

Kaya (カヤ) is a rich girl who gets an inheritance after her parents died. Kaya becomes sickly, and her caretaker Klahadore often tends to her. (Klahadore was found three years earlier by her father, practically dead on their doorstep. Kaya's father took pity and offered the man a job.) Secretly, the town liar--Usopp--climbs a tree outside her window and tells her tall tales that make her laugh and feel better. However, Klahadore is very disapproving of this and eventually kicks Usopp out and makes Kaya believe that he is a bad influence.

One day, Usopp listens in on a conversation between Klahadore and Jango, a hypnotist. Klahadore is really Captain Kuro and reveals that he plans to kill Kaya for her money--the last three years he has been gaining the trust of Kaya and the Village. Usopp tries to warn Kaya about the plot, but Kaya believes that he is lying; she rebukes him when he insists that he is telling the truth. She eventually learns the truth, and after Kuro is defeated, she gives the Straw Hats the Going Merry.

Kohza

Seiyuu: Takeshi Kusao

Kohza (コーザ, Kōza) is Princess Vivi's childhood friend and childhood leader of the Suna Suna (Sand Sand) Clan. After the King was set up by Crocodile, he was led to believe that the king was corrupt. This caused him to create am army and rebel against the king. This worked well for Crocodile. Though he headed the assault on the Royal Palace, he helped stop the rebellion once he realized what was really going on. Though gravely wounded in the battle, he recovered and helped his father Toto rebuild the city of Yuba. Kohza was last seen at Ukkari Hot Spring, owned and operated by his uncle Goro, along with Enel's ex-High Priest Gedatsu.

Kokoro

Kokoro

Kokoro (ココロ) is the main conductor of the Sea Train, Puffing Tom, at the station just outside of Water Seven. She has a granddaughter named Chimney, who accompanies her everywhere. Kokoro is a heavy drinker, and speaks with a mild speech impediment that gives her dialogue a distinctive ring. Kokoro was once the "lovely" secretary of Tom, and a matronly figure to his two apprentices, Iceburg and Franky. It was she who revealed to the Straw Hat Pirates, Franky Family, and Galley-La Company foremen the existence of a prototype Sea Train, and she was also responsible for driving the prototype, called "Rocketman," as it sped on its way towards Enies Lobby. Her facial features make it look as if she is perpetually smiling regardless of her actual emotions. Her body shape, along with her strange smile, makes her look like a frog. (She is, in fact, an icefish mermaid, though resembles more of a dugong in terms of appearance and shape.) "Kokoro" translates from Japanese as either heart or mind. Like some of the other characters of One Piece, Kokoro has a unique laugh, she starts it with a "Nga" (i.e. Nga ga ga ga ga!)

Kuina

Kuina (くいな) was the childhood friend of Roronoa Zoro. She was the daughter of the sword master of a dojo, the reason why Zoro developed the Santōryu technique, and why he treasures one of his swords, the Wadō Ichimonji, more than his others. In the English anime, the Wadō Ichimonji is just "Wado". When Zoro was young, he challenged every dojo he came across and claimed their signs (in Japan, the sign signifies the dojo is to be respected). When he came across Kuina and her family's dojo, he finally met his match.

Zoro fought Kuina regularly, but found that in 2001 fights he could never beat her. Kuina, after realizing that Zoro would soon pass her in skill and strength because she was a girl and he was a boy as as boys grow older they grow stronger then girls, so she became discouraged. At which Zoro told her that it was his goal to be as good as her, and together they promised that one of them would become the greatest swordsman in the world. However after she made a vow with Zoro, she fell down the stairs, while trying to get a sharpening block (no doubt to resharpen her katana after her and Zoro's duel) and died (in the English anime she was injured by the friends of a man she defeated, and could never fight again). Zoro asked her father for the honor of taking the Wadō Ichimonji with him, and with this Zoro promised to fulfil their shared dream of becoming the greatest swordsman to fruition in order to honor Kuina.

The Naval officer Tashigi bears a strong resemblance to Kuina (in appearance, personality, and sword style), to the point where it makes Zoro extremely uncomfortable around her. However, they are not believed to have any greater connection than that.

She is a playable character in the U.S.-only video game, One Piece Grand Adventure. Surprisingly, Zoro says that she died. The nature of this appearance is unclear. She seems not to have aged a day since her 2001st duel with Zoro, and is described by Zoro as merely being a dream. However in Smoker's storyline she joins the crew with no further explanation other than that she has been captured by a bewildered Tashigi.

Doctor Kureha

Doctor Kureha is the sole remaining doctor on Drum Island. Because of her eccentric treatment of patients (whom she will readily injure if they do not follow her orders), along with her reclusive nature, she is often called a "witch." However, she is a legitimate practitioner of medicine, and has kept herself healthy and fit at nearly 140 years old [2] (a "young 99 and a half" in the dub version). She considers herself a beautiful virgin flower, dresses in a style more suited to women one-sixth her age, and cannot stand being called "old" or a "hag" (which usually ends up in her punching or kicking the offender across the room). Kureha seems to have a drinking habit, judging by the bottle of umeshu (bug juice in the English dub anime) she always keeps close at hand, though she may consider this part of the regimen that keeps up her (relative) youth. A habit of her is "mishearing" people to be asking the secret to her youth. She seems to be somewhat anxious to tell it, though she never has a chance. According to Oda, Kureha still has many years ahead of her.

Dr. Kureha had an odd relationship with Dr. Hiruluk, seeming to enjoy the camaraderie of a fellow "doctor", but dismissing most of his ideas as those of a quack. When she realized that Hiruluk was dying, she agreed (reluctantly) to his last request: to train Tony Tony Chopper in medicine. During the time since Hiruluk's death, she trained Chopper in everything she knew, and was fairly impressed by the young reindeer's skill (though she rarely, if ever, let on to this fact). Knowing that Chopper would do well to gain real-world experience, Kureha helped make up his mind (by forbidding him from it) to leave the island with the Straw Hat Pirates. Standing on the ramparts of Drum Castle, she gave her wayward student a tearful send-off of gigantic proportions, setting off the "cure" that Dr. Hiruluk envisioned for the island: pink "cherry blossom" snowflakes falling from the sky to warm the island's frosted heart.

In a recent Japanese Fan Poll, Dr. Kureha is ranked the 34th most popular character in One Piece.

She is played by Masako Nozawa in the original Japanese version, and by Maddie Blaustein in the English dub, who, incidentally, also played Dr. K in the English dub of Cubix. As a reference to this, Chopper's nickname for Kureha is "Dr. K" in the English dub, as opposed to the Japanese counterpart's nickname, "Doctorine".

Laboon

Laboon is an extremely large whale (of comparable or greater size than the monsters in Calm Belt), native to West Blue, whom the Straw Hat Pirates encounter immediately after entering Grand Line. Fifty years earlier, Laboon had been left at the bottom of Reverse Mountain by a group of pirates who had befriended him. Since his species travels in pods, he had forged a powerful bond of friendship with these pirates, and he patiently waited for them at Grand Line's entrace. His caretaker is a doctor named Crocus, who normally mans the Lighthouse that introduces travelers into Grand Line.

Crocus revealed to the Straw Hat Pirates that Laboon's friends effectively abandoned him by fleeing the Grand Line through the Calm Belt. It is unknown whether these pirates are alive or dead. The old doctor has cared for Laboon ever since his friends left him. Although Laboon knows the truth about his friends, he refuses to admit to himself that they are gone. Laboon has many scars on his head from slamming into Reverse Mountain, for he believes he can destroy the mountain and return to West Blue.

Monkey D. Luffy, in an effort to give Laboon a renewed sense of hope, picks a fight with the whale by jamming the Going Merry's mast into his head. After the battle (which Luffy calls a draw), Luffy promises to Laboon that he will return to see him, under the guise of wanting a rematch. As a sign of this, Luffy paints the Strawhat Jolly Roger on Laboon's head, commenting that the insignia will wash away if Laboon hits Reverse Mountain further. The Strawhats depart, leaving behind two important friends.

Originally, in the Japanese manga and anime, the appearance of Laboon is also the introduction of Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday, two Frontier Agents of Baroque Works who are responsible for bringing the Straw Hat Pirates to Whisky Peak (Misty Peak in the English dub). However, this brief encounter was deemed to be too controversial and violent by 4Kids for American audiences, so Laboon was passed off as an iceberg that was effectively destroyed by Monkey D. Luffy. (In the July 2006 English issue of Shonen Jump, there is a page featuring upcoming One Piece cards; in this, he is called "Raboon," but his name remains "Laboon," in the manga itself.)

This missing "arc" was also significant in it was originally how Nami came to have a Log Pose, though this was also (badly) written around in the English anime (after Luffy breaks the Eternal Pose given to him by Miss All-Sunday, Vivi says she has another Pose given to her by Igaram making the point and importance of him giving it to the Straw Hats unnecessary).

Makino

Makino is the bartender from the hometown of Monkey D. Luffy, Fusha Village. She's a very kind person, and was a close friend of Shanks, his crew, and Luffy. Makino appeared to be a very prominent figure in Fusha Village.

Mayor Woop Slap

The mayor from Luffy's town. He was the first person to stick up for Luffy during his tussle with Higuma the Bear. He also complained about Luffy's dream of becoming a pirate, saying that would bring shame to the village, however, he later called it Luffy's "destiny" in question form.

According to the One Piece Blue databook, his real name is Woop Slap. It's also revealed that he knows when and how Luffy was born and also his origin. [3]

McKinley

Captain of the White Berets (a police force in Skypeia), he tried to arrest the Straw Hat Pirates when they first arrived in Skypeia. He appears to be very devoted to Eneru, until it is revealed that Eneru planned to destroy Skypeia with his Devil Fruit powers, McKinley then reveals that he only did everything Eneru commanded in order to ensure the safety of the citizens of Sky Island. McKinley, along with the rest of the White Berets, then left Eneru's side and chose to help Conis evacuate the Skypeian people.

Merry

Merry is the second butler and care giver of Kaya. With his cleft and sheep horns, the eccentric-looking man seems to resemble not only a sheep, but actually Going Merry itself. This, the fact that he was the former caretaker of the ship, and purely the resemblance in names seems to suggest strongly that Merry built the ship. This would then make his skills as a shipwright quite remarkable for a butler, as he managed to design a ship that made its way into the Grand Line all the way to Water 7.

Like everybody else in the village, Merry thought that Usopp's warning of an attack upon the village was just another one of his daily lies, and did not take it seriously. Upon the evening before the attempted attack by the Black Cat-Pirates, he was severely injured by Kuro, who declared his true intentions to Merry. Somehow, he actually managed to survive, and told the truth to Kaya.

When he later learned that the Black Cat-pirates had been defeated by the Straw Hats, he was remarked by the selflessness that Usopp proved by not telling the village of how close that they had been to destruction, and was happy to award the relatively small crew with the Going Merry as a ship for their odyssey.

Mikazuki

The captain and only known member of the Big Helmet Pirates. He was seen in a shipyard refusing to pay the Galley-La for repairing his ship. He started to cause trouble only to find himself and his crews knocked down by the Galley-La workers. He has a bounty of 36,000,000 berries.

Minatomo-San

Minatomo-san the carpenter is another One Piece SBS joke Oda invented to explain how the door Higuma the Bear kicked off its hinge was suddenly back in place as the bandit left the bar, after Higuma smashed a bottle of Sake over Shanks. [4] According to Oda, Minatomo is a carpenter who cannot go past a broken door without repairing it. Since the answer was given, Minatomo has made several appearances in the anime, normally seen either randomly standing next to people or repairing doors. Minatomo's appearances are similar in idea to Pandaman and Sam-San.

Moda

The milk maiden Ace meets during his chapter title mini-arc. She saves him from the river after he was thrown into it by Doctor Blackbeard and an angry chef Ace had skipped out on. And he returns the favor by reuniting Moda with her parents who are working as cooks on one of the Navy's ships.

Montblanc Norland

In the present day of the series, Montblanc Norland (モンブラン・ノーランド, Monburan Nōrando) is regarded in a North Blue fairy tale as a trickster and a liar who made up the story of a gold city on Jaya Island. He stood by his story even up till his execution.

But 400 years ago, he was an explorer who found the island of Jaya by hearing the ringing of a golden bell located there. This bell was regarded as a holy object by the native Shandora tribe of Jaya. Norland and his crew became friends with the tribe, especially the Shandoran warrior Calgara, and with their help discovered a city of gold on the island. After he returned to his home island Lyneel, he told the king about his expedition. The king then ordered Norland to take him to the city of gold. Once they arrived on the island, however, the city and its people had disappeared. The king, furious, thought Norland was playing a trick on him and thus sentenced him to death. Furthermore, the king even framed Norland by having one of his subjects act as member of Norland's crew, falsely testifying against Norland. In the end, with his crew watching helplessly, Norland is left tearfully wondering what happened to his native friends and the golden city as he is killed. As a final insult, the North Blue fairy tale telling his story depicts him as a grinning fool and the king as a brave warrior.

The true reason for the city's disappearance, though unknown to Norland, was due to an underwater geyser called the Knock Up Stream. This powerful geyser shot a portion of the island up into the sky, where it remained suspended. Norland's claims are finally proven to be the truth when Luffy rings the golden bell in Skypiea, which can be heard below on Jaya Island. The fairly tale may remain, but to his descendant Montblanc Cricket and his friends, he is vindicated after 400 years of shame.

It was confirmed that his name in the English language dub produced by 4Kids Entertainment would be Noland.

Nefertari Cobra

The King of Alabasta and Nefertari Vivi's father. He is very wise and fair, and cares deeply for his kingdom and people even though they are rebelling against him. He was first seen during Dalton's flashback of the World Government meeting held in Alabasta. During the settings of One Piece, Alabasta was in a hopeless state when no rain had fallen under three years, people of Alabasta suspected the king to be guilty over this and that he used Dance powder in order to save the capital Alubarna and left Yuba deserted. It was soon found out that Baroque Works were behind this, proven through a letter Vivi sent to Cobra. Cobra made the decision to send Pell to Erumalu and Chaka to set up the Royal Army in order to protect it from Baroque Works and Rebel Army. But later Baroque works sent Mr. 2 Bon Clay to Katorea to use his Mane Mane power to impersonate Cobra and claim that he stole the rain, violently hurting the people, including Koza, and causing confusion among the people of Alabasta. Nefertari Cobra was being caught by Miss Merry Christmas and Mr. 4 at that point and later being pierced on the walls at the entrance of the king's castle, where Nefertari Vivi and later Luffy would be negotiating with Crocodile and Miss All-Sunday. Later Cobra lead Miss All-Sunday to the poneglyphs, to gather information about Pluton. When Crocodile arrived to the place Luffy went on and fought against for a last time, making Cobra witness the great battle. At last Crocodile was beaten, Cobra carried the unconscious Luffy to the other Straw Hat team. At the end of the war the only witness, Kappa, told the army that he saw "Cobra" changing back to Bon Clay during the Katorea incident, thus ending the war.

His name was changed to Nebra in the English version of the anime.

Nico Olvia

Nico Olvia (ニコ・オルビア Niko Orubia) was the mother of Nico Robin. She was an archaeologist from the island of Ohara, who worked with a team of scholars in the island's "Tree of Knowledge" in the outlawed study of Poneglyphs. Her pursuit of this forbidden source of knowledge proved disastrous in her life. 4 years before the death of Gold Roger, She left her 2-year-old daughter at Ohara to set sail with 33 other scholars, only to see them all get killed by the Navy, and to get captured herself. Although she later escaped (with the help of Jaguar D. Saul who didn't like the way the Navy punished them just for reading Poneglyphs) and set out for Ohara in a Naval Battleship, the World Government had already deduced that Ohara was the team's home port and dispatched the secret police force CP9 to wipe out the "criminal" researchers. Olvia manages to make it to the Tree of Knowledge and warns her fellow scholars of the incoming danger, then goes to confront Spandine but is subdued and rounded up with the rest of the scholars back at the tree where she is reunited with her daughter. She at first claim Robin isn't her daughter to keep her safe, but breaks down when Robin calls out to her. Olvia embraces Robin one more time before Saul arrives and asks him to take Robin off the island. She then helps Clover and the other scholars throw books from the tree into the ocean so future generations can find them and know what really happened. Afterwards, they all stay in the Tree of Knowledge as it burns; with Olvia regretting that she did not leave any parting words for Robin as a mother.

Oddly enough, she is voiced by the same seiyuu who voices Nico Robin. In a recent Japanese Fan Poll, Nico Olvia is currently ranked the 44th most popular character in One Piece.

Nojiko

Nojiko is the adoptive sister of Nami (the two aren't related but were raised together by Belle-Mère). She plays a major part in the Arlong arc as she reveals Nami's past to the Straw Hats and helps rescue Luffy with the help of Genzo after Luffy is thrown into the ocean by Arlong with his feet stuck in a block of cement. Her right arm is covered in tattoos, which she got to help Nami not to feel ashamed of her tattoo of Arlong's pirate logo. After trying to stop Nami from attacking Captain Nezumi, a Naval officer who tries to take the money Nami raised for her deal with Arlong, Nojiko was shot by him in the back. However, she survived. In the manga, she gave her bracelet to Nami.

Pandaman

Pandaman is a joke character created by the author, Eiichiro Oda, whose appearance is that of a muscle bound figure with a panda face for a head (whether this is a mask or his real face remains to be seen). He makes numerous background appearances throughout the series for the viewer to try and spot. He is also a playable character in One Piece Grand Battle 2 for the Playstation. Pandaman is first spotted near the Black Cat pirate crew during the Captain Kuro arc. The second time he is spotted while Luffy is fighting Don Krieg. [5] . He is later spotted a few panels (referring to the manga) after Buggy is struck by lightning while trying to decapitate Luffy. He is also seen in the anime dressed as a civilian in a short battle between Ace and Smoker. He is also spotted in the third One Piece movie running with the animals when a trumpet pig sounds.

Pandaman was originally created for a comic selection a few years back. He originated from Tibet and age is unknown. He is 6'6" and weighs 270 lbs. His mortal blow techniques: S.P.D-- Bamboo Leaves Panda Drop, and Giant Panda Deathstock. His Explanation: Abandoned in a bamboo thicket as an infant, Panda Man was raised by Giant Pandas. (all of these mentioned are not seen in the One Piece manga or Anime, and as such it should be taken with a grain of salt.) He is a demon superhero who resolved to become strong because when he told people he had seen Kaguyahime, they didn't believe him and picked on him. (Kaguyahime was a princess who was found inside a bamboo stump, according to Japanese legends.) Pandaman was originally created for the anime/manga series Kinnikuman.

According to Oda, Pandaman is a rich guy living on a certain island[6]. He is often seen in the same panel as one of the Tomato Gang, a debt collector on the lookout for Pandaman, trying to collect the money Pandaman owes (which is why Pandman is often seen running away on appearances)[7].

In a recent Japanese Fan Poll, Pandaman is currently ranked the 31st most popular character in One Piece.

Pandaman also appears in One Piece Grand Battle! popping or hiding in the background. In some stages he might appear in more than one place.

In One Piece: Pirates Carnival, he appears in both one of the minigames and as a captain in a Captain Game.

He is also a unlockable character in Ultimate Muscle: Legends vs New Generation after unlocking all the other characters.

Patty

Patty

Patty is one of the cooks of the Baratie, who doesn't always see eye to eye with Sanji. He, along with Carne, contribute to helping defend the restaurant from Don Krieg. His kinder side shows when he tries to save Gin after he breathed in poison gas.

Patty physically resembles Popeye, though he has a much larger build thus looking like Popeye's rival Bluto. He has a very business-minded attitude towards customers; those who pay get good and friendly service. Those that don't get the boot. However, he tends to unknowingly insult his customers when he greets them.

  • Shokuatari Meatball (Indigestion Meatball) /Meatball of Doom is an attack Patty uses to defeat tough pirates, using a lobster shaped bazooka, he shoots a huge exploding cannonball at the offender. It fails to hurt Don Krieg though.

In the 4Kids dub, Patty has an Irish accent.

He is also the only cook to wear a black uniform besides for Sanji, suggesting that he was Sanji's assistant and therefor the new assistant chef.

Pagaya

Conis's father and a brilliant inventor from Skypiea who fixes the waver Nami rides. Pagaya was thought dead as Enel attacked him while he was helping an injured member of the Royal Guard, who had just revealed Enel's plans to destroy Skypeia. But he resurfaces later, alive and well. He helps the Straw Hat Pirates despite the fact that they were labeled as criminals for not paying their toll fee. He has a habit of apologizing for everything, even things that he isn't even responsible for.

Pell

Pell (ペル Peru) is one of the commanders of the Alabastan guard and the strongest fighter in Alabasta. He ate the Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Falcon (トリトリの実 モデル隼(ファルコン) Bird Bird Fruit, Model Falcon, called the "Tweet Tweet Fruit" in the English anime) and thus can transform into a falcon, and has earned him the nickname "Peregrine Falcon Pell" due to his bird powers. The fruit is apparently one of five that have been discovered that give the user the ability to fly. Since the fruit is a Zoan type, he has 3 types of transformations meaning that he can turn into a falcon or a man/falcon hybrid, as well as maintain his natural human form.

He fights against Miss All-Sunday, aka Nico Robin, but is easily defeated. After the fight he helps save Luffy and carries him to Alubarna. During the Alabasta Arc, Sir Crocodile had set up a massive bomb to blow up the capital city Alubarna. Princess Nefertari Vivi and the Straw Hats managed to find the bomb but couldn't disarm it. Pell sacrificed himself by carrying the bomb high into the sky where it exploded harmlessly. However, near the end of the Alabasta arc, a shop owner is calling to a person who left his hat that looked supiciously like Pell. He was proven alive and well at the end of the Alabasta Arc when he approaches his own grave in disturbed astonishment (although that scene is not in the manga). Pell was again seen when Kohza's uncle and ex-Priest Gedatsu opened up a tunnel from Alabasta to a hot spring resort.

In a recent Japanese Fan Poll, Pell is currently ranked the 27th most popular character in One Piece.

Rika

A little girl living in Shell Town who helps Zoro by offering him onigiri (cookies in the English anime) but he refuses and tells her to go away. Helmeppo then walks in and takes them for himself but then spits them out because the rice balls were sweetened with sugar (the cookies have bits of eggshell in the English anime). Helmeppo orders the naval marine standing behind him to throw her out but is caught by Monkey D. Luffy.

The reason Zoro was captured by the Marines was because he defended Rika and the villagers from Helmeppo and his wild dog.

Rika becomes friends with both Helmeppo and Koby during their stay in Shell Town, and becomes upset when the two leave with Vice-Admiral Garp.

Rika's mom's name is Ririka, explained in One Piece BLUE: Grand Data File.

Roji

Aunt Roji

Roji was Nico Robin's arrogant and cruel aunt on the island of Ohara. Roji's husband was Nico Olvia's brother and was the only caretaker who was kind to Robin. When Olvia left to study history, her brother took Robin in, to Roji's dismay. Roji proved callous towards Robin and always threatened to hit her if she did not stop crying. However, Roji's husband intervened on Robin's behalf. Roji left stale bread and jam for Robin when she went out and gave her many chores. After Robin met Saul, she took all the jam and bread to give to him, making Roji scream in anger. She dies, presumably, when Ohara is completely decimated by the buster call.

Roshio the Executioner

A pirate who was said to have a bounty of 42 Million Berries on him. Roshio is seen playing card with Bellamy the Hyena in the starting chapters of the Jaya arc. While he wins fairly, Bellamy challenges then kills him by knocking him out of the top floor of the building they were in with his Devil Fruit powers. Upon seeing Roshio's crew down in the streets trying to carry him to get some much-needed medical attention, Bellamy then leaps down to finish him off with his Spring Hopper technique. His Jolly Roger was apparently a hanged man on red, as seen in his headband.

Sam-San

Sam-San (Full title: "Ordinary everyday person" Sam-San) is a random drunk that appears in One Piece on very rare occusions. The idea behind him is the same as Panda Man, only he is much rarer to see and normally less noticed. His first appearance was during the Arlong arc when everyone was celebrating Arlong's defeat. His story according to Oda was he was on his way home from his daughter's wedding, drunk, saw a party and decided to join in. [8]

He is next seen in the Alabasta arc in the manga. Oda went on to explain he was there because his second daughter was getting married. He also said his wife had left him when their eldest was 8 and he ended up raising all his daughters on his own. The second daughter was apparently the trouble maker and despite the trouble she gave him, when she got married he went out and got drunk because it saddened him she was leaving. Somehow he ended up in Alabasta after having too many drinks. [9] Sam-san has also been seen during the beginning of the Fourth One Piece Movie: The Dead End Adventure.

Sam is one of Oda's jokes in the SBS corner, although if truth be known it was more likely just a less than serious answer Oda came up with to answer the question on why the same random drunk was in a two different panels in the manga. Sam-San has made few appearances in the Manga, he has however featured in the background of the One Piece anime on several occusions.

Suu

Suu is Conis's cloud fox during the Skypiea arc.

Terracotta

Igaram's wife, and the Royal Head Chef who appears very late in the Alabasta arc. Terracotta also looks amost identical to Igaram, even having the same voice, thus prompting some characters to accuse her of being Igaram in drag. Zoro has said, "A couple can only look so much alike!" when he first saw her.

Tom

Tom was a powerful long-horned cowfish-type Fish-man, known as the most skilled shipwright in the world. Tom is responsible for building the Oro Jackson, Gold Roger's ship, which got him into trouble with the Navy and the World Government. Although building a ship for pirates is generally not considered a crime (as the shipwrights have no control over who mans their ships), a special case had to be made for Tom because his client was the Pirate King.

To escape what would be a cruel and unnecessary fate, Tom made an agreement with the judge: given 10 years, he could save his dying home city of Water 7, by constructing an unprecedented Sea Train which could traverse even the roughest of weather to deliver and receive goods and services. Thus, Tom's trial went into recess for a decade, to reconvene after the Sea Train's completion.

However, Tom was also the holder of a blueprint for Pluton, an ancient warship of power so great that its name survived the passage of time (or perhaps the cataclysm) that blotted out most of the world's history. This is the same Pluton that Crocodile was seeking in Alabasta.

Tom's possession of the blueprint led other factions of the Government to seek it: of note, a man named Spandam, who was at the time working for Cipher Pol No. 5, a secret governmental organization not overseen by the Navy. Spandam, in an effort to secure the blueprints, hired people to steal and man the ships of Tom's student, Cutty Flam, to attack Water Seven at the resumption of Tom's trial. Though he knew Franky to be innocent, Tom took responsibility for the actions of his pupil's ships, thus reinstating his original sentence. Tom was escorted on the train he built to Enies Lobby, where he was allegedly executed shortly thereafter.

Although stated in his introduction box that he's a merman, his appearances (the upper body resembling fish rather than the lower body) indicates that he's a Fish-man.

Like some of the other characters of One Piece, Tom had a unique laugh, he started it with a "Ta" (i.e. ta ha ha ha ha!)

In a recent Japanese Fan Poll, Tom is currently ranked the 41st most popular character in One Piece.

Tonjit

Tonjit

One of the nomads that live on Long Ring Long Land, he was trapped on a pair of very tall stilts for ten years, causing him to be separated from the rest of the nomads. After the Straw Hat Pirates got him down, he lamented that he couldn't get to the rest of the nomads because of the high tides, but was nonetheless reunited with his long horse, or hoooorse, Shelly. The hooooorse however was later captured by Foxy, which prompted the Davy Back Fight. After Luffy finally beat Foxy, Aokiji appeared and used his Devil Fruit powers to freeze all of the water on the island for a week, allowing Tonjit to ride his hooooorse Shelly across the water in order to meet up with his clan. In the anime, instead of Aokiji, Tonjit's grandson appeared from the ground, riding a mooole which gave Tonjit transport.

Tonjit's clothing, nomadic lifestyle, his horse, and his dwelling in a yurt seems to be based on the lifestyles of the nomadic peoples of Central Asia (specifically Mongolia.)

Toto

Toto, "Tutu" in the English anime, is Koza's father, and the only man left living in the deserted city of Yuba. He constantly digs for water in order to possibly revive the town, but Sir Crocodile torments him by sending sandstorms to the area every time Toto is about to find water. Despite this however, Toto's strong will kept him going until rain finally fell throughout Alabasta.

Usopp's Pirates

Usopp's Pirates (called the Veggie Pirates in the English anime) comprise three village children who join Usopp in telling lies and other assorted games. They later assist Kaya in her escape when Captain Kuro plans to kill her. The names of the members are Ninjin (meaning "Carrot", Carrot in the dub), Tamanegi (meaning Onion, Onion in the dub), and Piman (meaning green pepper, Pepper in the dub) voiced in the US anime series from 4Kids by Kevin Kolack.

Yokozuna

A giant sumo-wrestling frog, he was a friend to the legendary shipright Tom until Tom's execution. After that, he would always swim through the waters around Water 7, stepping in the way of the Sea Train to try and stop it. This habit is said to be caused by Yokozuna wanting to become stronger so he won't lose anymore of his loved ones. This habit also caused him to try and stop the Rocket Man while the Straw Hat Pirates, Galley-La Foremen, and Franky Family were travelling towards Enies Lobby, and he ends up helping them in their attempt to get Franky and Nico Robin back. While on Enies Lobby, he is in charge of preventing any government agents from getting into the courthouse, and does well until the Jurors arrive and attack. He is then saved by the giants Oimo and Kaashii, who decide help him guard the courthouse. Yokozuna boarded the sea train with the Franky Family, the Galley-La, and the giants and has since returned to Water 7.

Zeff

Zeff as a pirate

Zeff is a former pirate known as "Red-Leg" Zeff and is also Sanji's mentor. He is currently head chef on the floating restaurant Baratie.

When Sanji was a kitchen boy, the ship he worked on was attacked by Zeff's pirate crew. Sanji had the guts to attack Zeff himself, claiming that he wanted to live in order to find the mythical sea "All Blue," (Great Blue in US TV version) Zeff's own dream as well. During the skirmish, a fierce storm wiped out both Sanji's ship and the pirate ship, nearly drowning Sanji. Zeff went into the water to save the boy because they shared the same dream. In the anime, Zeff's leg caught on debris during the rescue, and he had to cut it off in order to get Sanji and save them both [9]. He does this by wrapping a chain around the trapped leg and letting the force of the ships sever it.

After the rescue, they were washed up onto a tall, rocky island by a wave. There was no food on it, and no way to get to the sea and back to land for fish. Unknown to Sanji, Zeff gave all of the food that had washed ashore with them to the young boy and kept none for himself (In the manga, he still had both his legs but cuts off his right leg and eats it to keep himself alive). After eighty or more days with little food they were finally rescued, and Zeff swore that if he made it off the island alive, he would open a restaurant on the sea and serve anyone who was hungry, whether they be naval marine or pirate. Moments after revealing his dream, Zeff and Sanji are rescued by a passing ship.

Years later, Zeff makes good on his promise and opens Baratie, a floating restaurant shaped like a fish, famous for its amazing food and fighting cooks. Even with a peg leg, Zeff's kicks can still kill a man and he passed the art on to Sanji. When Luffy comes to the restaurant and defeats Don Krieg, Zeff encourages Sanji to leave the restaurant to pursue his dream for both their sakes. He also offers to give Luffy his log book that records the days he spent on the Grand Line, but Luffy refuses, saying he wants to create his own adventure and not recreate that of another.

In the manga Zeff has a tendency to call Sanji "Little Eggplant" and Sanji calls him "Crap Geezer" in return. In the English dub of the anime, Zeff has a tendency to call Sanji "String Bean" and in return Sanji calls him "Ol' geezer".

Zeff is a playable character in One Piece Grand Adventure.
