WWE is an American professional wrestling promotion based out of Stamford, Connecticut. Title reigns are either determined by professional wrestling matches or are awarded to a wrestler, as a result of the culmination of various scripted storylines.
WWE splits its main roster into two distinctive brands — Raw and SmackDown. A level below the main roster is the NXT brand. Specialty brands in WWE include 205 Live, which is for male wrestlers 205 lbs. and under (designated by WWE as cruiserweights), and NXT UK, which is for wrestlers based in the United Kingdom.
Raw, SmackDown, and NXT each have a top championship and a secondary championship for male wrestlers, a singles championship for female wrestlers, and a tag team championship for male wrestlers. There is also one tag team championship for female wrestlers that is shared between those three brands. There is one championship for the cruiserweight wrestlers on 205 Live, which is the only championship with a weight limit in the promotion, and one male singles, one female singles, and one male tag team championship for NXT UK wrestlers. There is also one tertiary championship for male wrestlers, which is a specialty championship shared across all five brands.
There are currently 18 championships in WWE. Among the five current brands, 23 wrestlers hold the championships as of May 15, 2024. The list includes the number of times the wrestler has held the title, the date and location of the win, and a description of the winning bout.
Current champions
At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for male wrestlers are the WWE Universal Championship on Raw and the WWE Championship on SmackDown—designated as world championships. The Universal Championship is held by Seth Rollins, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35 on April 7, 2019. The WWE Champion is Kofi Kingston, who is in his first reign. He won the title on April 7, 2019 at WrestleMania 35 by defeating Daniel Bryan.
Secondary titles for male wrestlers include the WWE United States Championship on Raw and the WWE Intercontinental Championship on SmackDown. The United States Championship is held by Ricochet, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Samoa Joe at Stomping Grounds on June 23, 2019. The Intercontinental Championship is held by Finn Bálor, who is in his second reign. He won the title by defeating Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 35 on April 7, 2019.
The WWE 24/7 Championship is a tertiary championship for male wrestlers and is shared across all five brands. It can be defended anytime, anywhere, as long as a WWE referee is present. It is held by 205 Live's Drake Maverick, who is in his second reign. He pinned R-Truth backstage after throwing his suitcase at Truth, who was trying to avoid a mob of wrestlers, on the July 1, 2019 episode of Raw.
Tag team championships for male wrestlers include the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship and the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship. The Raw Tag Team Championship is held by The Revival (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder), who are in their second reign, both as a team and individually. They won the title by defeating former champions Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder and The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso) in a triple threat match on the June 10, 2019 episode of Raw. The SmackDown Tag Team Championship is held by Daniel Bryan and Rowan, who are in their first reign as a team and second for Rowan individually. They won the vacant title by defeating The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso) on the May 7, 2019 episode of SmackDown Live; former champions The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) relinquished the title due to Jeff's injury.
At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy for female wrestlers are the WWE Raw Women's Championship and the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship—also designated as world championships. The Raw Women's Championship is held by Becky Lynch, who is in her first reign. She won the title in a Winner Take All triple threat match involving former champion Ronda Rousey and SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 35 on April 8, 2019. The SmackDown Women's Championship is held by Bayley, who is in her first reign. She won the title by cashing in her Money in the Bank contract on Charlotte Flair – who herself had just defeated Lynch to win the title – at Money in the Bank on May 19, 2019.
The WWE Women's Tag Team Championship is the only tag team championship for female wrestlers in WWE, and is shared between the Raw, SmackDown, and NXT brands.[1] It is held by SmackDown's The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce), who are in their first reign, both as a team and individually. They won the title by defeating Nia Jax and Tamina, Natalya and Beth Phoenix, and inaugural champions The Boss 'n' Hug Connection (Bayley and Sasha Banks) in a fatal four-way tag team match at WrestleMania 35 on April 7, 2019.
The WWE Cruiserweight Championship is the only exclusive championship of the 205 Live brand and is for wrestlers 205 lb (93 kg) and under (referred to as cruiserweights); the only championship in WWE with a weight limit. The title is held by Drew Gulak, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating former champion Tony Nese and Akira Tozawa by pinning Tozawa in a triple threat match on the Stomping Grounds pre-show on June 23, 2019.
The top title of NXT is the NXT Championship. It is held by Adam Cole, who is in his first reign. He defeated Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver: XXV on June 1, 2019. The secondary title of NXT is the NXT North American Championship, which is held by first-time title holder Velveteen Dream, who defeated Johnny Gargano on January 30, 2019 during the NXT tapings (aired February 20). The NXT Women's Championship is held by record two-time champion Shayna Baszler. She won the title by defeating Kairi Sane at Evolution on October 28, 2018. The NXT Tag Team Championship is held by first-time champions, Street Profits, (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford). They defeated Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch, The Forgotten Sons (Steve Cutter and Wesley Blake), and The Undisputed Era (Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish) in a fatal four-way ladder match to win the vacant titles at NXT TakeOver: XXV on June 1, 2019; previous champions The Viking Raiders (Erik and Ivar) voluntarily relinquished the titles after being drafted to Raw.
The top title of NXT UK is the WWE United Kingdom Championship. It is held by Walter, who is in his first reign. He won the title by defeating Pete Dunne at NXT TakeOver: New York on April 5, 2019, ending Dunne's reign at 685 days. The NXT UK Women's Championship is held by Toni Storm, who defeated inaugural title holder Rhea Ripley on January 12, 2019 at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool. The NXT UK Tag Team Championship is held by the team of Zack Gibson and James Drake, who defeated Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) in a tournament final at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool on January 12, 2019 to become the inaugural champions.
