Toronto Centre
Toronto Centre in relation to other Toronto ridings.

Toronto Centre, Rosedale and Toronto Centre–Rosedale make up a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the Canadian House of Commons from 1872 to 1925 and since 1935. Toronto Centre, covering the same area, is a provincial electoral district that has been represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 1999.

Toronto Centre covers the heart of downtown Toronto. The riding contains notable areas such as Rosedale (one of Canada's wealthiest enclaves), Regent Park (Canada's first and largest social housing development), Church and Wellesley (Canada's largest gay community), and most of the business district of the city.

In the Canadian House of Commons, the riding is vacant following the retirment of Liberal Bill Graham on July 2, 2007. Unless a general election is called first, a by-election must be called within six months to fill the vacancy. Toronto Centre was represented for 15 years without interruption by successive Conservative Members of Parliament (M.P.) - David Crombie and David MacDonald - until 1993. Toronto Centre has elected a Conservative M.P. at least once in every decade since the 1880s.

In the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, it is represented by George Smitherman, Ontario's Minister of Health.

Its members of Toronto City Council are Pam McConnell and Kyle Rae.

Federal electoral district

Toronto Centre riding was first created in 1872 from portions of Toronto West and Toronto East. In 1924, the riding was broken into Toronto East Centre, Toronto West Centre and Toronto South.

A riding covering much the same area was created in 1933 named "Rosedale" after the wealthy neighbourhood of Rosedale. This riding was replaced with "Toronto Centre—Rosedale" in 1996, but the quickly-growing population resulted in large areas being shaved off on all sides. In 2003, Toronto Centre—Rosedale was abolished, and a new riding somewhat to the east was created named "Toronto Centre".

Each of the four major national political parties (the Liberal Party of Canada, the Conservative Party of Canada, the Green Party of Canada, and the New Democratic Party of Canada), have active federal and provincial riding associations which act as the local party organizations in the riding.

Members of Parliament

These ridings have elected the following Members of Parliament:
