The 2016–17 season is Galatasaray's 113rd in existence and 59th consecutive season in the Süper Lig. They will be aiming for an unprecedented 21st League title, after finishing the Süper Lig sixth place in previous season.

In Europe, Galatasaray will not be present in any competition. They will compete in a domestic cup, the Turkish Cup.

Season overview

  • On 27 May 2016, it is announced that midfielder Emre Çolak has been transferred to Deportivo de La Coruña.[1]
  • On 28 May 2016, Galatasaray revealed its pre-season summer camp schedule. The camp schedule for the Galatasaray professional football team prior to the next football season begins on 1 July at their training ground, Florya Metin Oktay Sports Complex and Training Center.[2]
  • On 22 June 2016, it is announced that Galatasaray have begun official negotiations regarding the transfer of Serdar Aziz of Bursaspor.[3] The original bid was reported as €4.5 million, with Aziz set to receive an annual salary of €2 million.[4]
  • On 27 June 2016, it is announced that the contracts of Bilal Kısa, Furkan Özçal and Sercan Yıldırım have been terminated by Galatasaray.[5]
  • On 28 June 2016, it is announced that Emre Can Coşkun has been sold to Göztepe for a €50,000 transfer fee.[6]
  • On 29 June 2016, it is announced that José Rodríguez is sold to Mainz 05 for a €2.145 million transfer fee.[7]
  • On 30 June 2016, it is announced that Galatasaray will play a friendly match against Manchester United on 30 July in Gothenburg, Sweden.[8]

  • On 8 August 2016, it is announced that Galatasaray transferred Tolga Ciğerci from Hertha BSC. The original bid was reported as €3 million, with Tolga set to receive an annual salary of €2 million.[20]
  • On 8 August 2016, it is announced that Galatasaray began official negotiations regarding the transfer of Belgian defender Luis Pedro Cavanda.[21]
  • On 8 August 2016, it is announced that Galatasaray transferred Luis Pedro Cavanda from Trabzonspor. The original bid was reported as €1.8 million, with Cavanda set to receive an annual salary of €875K.[22]
  • On 9 August 2016, a jersey sponsorship agreement is made between Galatasaray and Nef.[23]
  • On 17 August 2016, it is announced that Blerim Džemaili is sold to Bologna for €1.3 million.[24]
  • On 23 August 2016, it is announced that Galatasaray began official negotiations regarding the loan of Portuguese midfielder Josué.[25] Josué will receive an annual salary of €700K.[26]
  • On 29 August 2016, it is announced that the contract of Olcan Adın has been terminated by Galatasaray.[27]
  • On 30 August 2016, it is announced that Galatasaray began official negotiations regarding the loan of Icelandic midfielder Kolbeinn Sigþórsson for €700K. Sigþórsson will receive an annual salary of €1.2 million. Also Galatasaray has a buy-out option for €3.8 million.[28]
  • On 31 August 2016, it is announced that Galatasaray began official negotiations regarding the transfer of midfielder Nigel de Jong. de Jong will receive an annual salary of €2.5 million.[29]
  • On 31 August 2016, it is announced that the contract of Umut Bulut has been terminated by Galatasaray.[30]
  • On 31 August 2016, it is announced that Tarık Çamdal is loaned to Eskişehirspor for the rest of the season.[31]
