Production
The film was initially an unauthorized production, set to capitalize on the then in-production 1989 Batman film starring Michael Keaton. Warner Bros. threatened legal action and the release of the film was delayed until legal entanglements could be sorted out. The film was released in 1991, two years later than the intended 1989 release.
A sequel was planned, launching Thursday group member and popular matinee teen idol and heartthrob Hector Chua. However, those plans did not materialize.
Spoofs
The "R" on the Robin costume was intentionally stylized to resemble the Regal Films logo, the producer of the film, which was a rival to Viva Films. Keempee de Leon and Vina Morales were then contract artists of the latter who were loaned to the former for the film.
Panchito's Tiyo Paenguin literally means "Uncle Paenguin", which is a portmanteau of the words "Tiyo Paeng" and "Penguin" and also serves as a double entendre for fellatio.
Joey de Leon impersonates Fernando Poe Jr. in some scenes of the film. Poe, earlier produced a similar spoof of Batman in 1965.[2]
