The Hunter 23.5 is an American trailerable sailboat that was designed by the Hunter Design Team and first built in 1992.[1][2][3]
Production
The design was built by Hunter Marine in the United States between 1992 and 1997, but it is now out of production.[1][2]
Design
The Hunter 23.5 is a small recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. It has a fractional sloop rig with a full batten mainsail and a 110% genoa, a raked stem, a walk-through reverse transom, a transom-hung rudder controlled by a metal tiller and a centerboard. It displaces 2,000 lb (907 kg) and carries 1,000 lb (454 kg) of flooding water ballast. The ballast is drained for road transport.[1][3]
The boat has a draft of 5.50 ft (1.68 m) with the centreboard extended and 1.50 ft (0.46 m) with it retracted, allowing beaching or ground transportation on a trailer.[1]
The boat is normally fitted with a small outboard motor for docking and maneuvering. The fresh water tank has a capacity of 5 U.S. gallons (19 L; 4.2 imp gal).[1]
Factory standard equipment supplied included a stove, sink, cooler, portable head, a dinette table that can be fitted in the lower deck and the cockpit, outboard motor mount, life jackets, an anchor and a fog bell. Optional equipment included a galvanized highway trailer, a 5 or 8 hp (4 or 6 kW) outboard motor and a canvas companionway cover.[3]
The design has a PHRF racing average handicap of 243 with a high of 249 and low of 231. It has a hull speed of 6.2 kn (11.48 km/h).[4]
