The 2020 2nd Division League (known as Hero 2020 2nd Division League, for sponsorship reasons) will be the 13th season of the I-League 2nd Division, the second division Indian football league, since its establishment in 2008. The league is scheduled to kick-off from 25 January 2020.[1][2]

Teams

This season, 17 teams will be participating, comprising 1 reserve side from I-League (Punjab) and 8 from Indian Super League (ATK, Jamshedpur, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennaiyin, Mumbai City, Goa and Kerala Blasters). All the teams will divided in 3 groups of 6 teams in A and C, and 5 teams in group B. The teams those will make their debut this season are FC Bengaluru United, Rajasthan FC, Punjab FC (reserves), Hyderabad FC (reserves) and Mumbai City FC (reserves).[1] Indian Arrows reserves were supposed to debut this season, but later withdrew, since it consists of U-16 and U-18 players, and have their board examinations.[3]

The teams are ranked according to points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss). If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied in the order given to determine the rankings:
  1. Greater number of points obtained in the matches between the Teams concerned
  2. Goal difference resulting from the matches between the Teams concerned
  3. Greater number of goals scored in the matches between the Teams concerned
  4. Goal difference in all the matches
  5. Greater number of goals scored in all the matches
  6. Drawing of lots

Final round

Group champions from preliminary round and best second-placed team between Group A and C will qualify for this round. Here, four qualified teams will play at a central venue on a single-leg league system. The team that finishes top of the table in the final round will be crowned champions, and will be promoted to the I League next season. All placed team may also possibly qualify, based on the decision taken by the AIFF.[6]
