CryptoNote is an application layer protocol that aims to solve specific problems identified in Bitcoin.[1] Namely:
- Traceability of transactions
- The proof-of-work function
- Irregular emission
- Hardcoded constants
- Bulky scripts
The protocol powers several decentralized privacy-oriented cryptocurrencies.[2]
