AC/DC discography

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by EndlessWires (talk | contribs) at 16:29, 1 August 2007 (→‎International Releases). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This is a discography for the Australian rock band AC/DC.

Since 1975, the Australian rock band AC/DC has released 16 studio albums, plus a small number of variant albums issued in Australia only. Additionally, the band have released 5 live albums, 12 video collections of concerts and music videos, and at least 6 box sets (one of which, Bonfire, needs to be placed in a completely different category). A large number of AC/DC singles have been released over the years, as well as a quantity of unofficial and illegal recordings, and in addition the band's material has appeared on several official soundtracks and in a number of movies.

However, it may be worth nothing that, unlike many artists who have released many 'best of' collections, AC/DC have never released any 'greatest hits' type packages despite having recorded material for over 30 years. As "Who Made Who", which served as the soundtrack to Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive, and the band's various live discs are about as close as AC/DC have come to such a compilation, any mention of one may well be taken as a sign that the band's recording career has finally come to a close.

AC/DC have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, including more than 68 million albums in the U.S.[1] Back in Black has sold 42 million units worldwide, including 21 million in the U.S.,[2] making it the second-highest-selling album ever internationally, and the biggest-selling album by any band.[3]

Remasters

File:Remasteredacdcblowupyourvideo.JPG
Blow Up Your Video, an example of an AC/DC Remasters package. Includes a digipak case, a 12-16 page booklet, and a remastered disc.

The AC/DC remasters are a series of digitally remastered AC/DC albums, the first installment of which was released by Epic Records on February 2003 (see 2003 in music). Each re-released album is remastered from the original source tapes for optimum sound quality and is packaged in a deluxe digi-pak case with a booklet about the respective period.[4][5] Also, the rereleased CDs use the ConnecteD Technology which can unlock exclusive band footage, such as rare audio, videos, photos, historically accurate memorabilia and tour dates.[6] The albums were also released on 180 gram vinyl records.

Although the entire band catalog was rereleased in the UK,[7] in the United States only the albums that are over ten years old are digitally remastered, for example, Ballbreaker was rereleased in 2005,[8] because it was originally released in 1995, but the older albums weren't rereleased together, they were rereleased separately in three groups. However, Stiff Upper Lip was rereleased in the U.S. in 2007.
