Barton is an unincorporated community in southern Colerain Township, Belmont County, Ohio, United States, along Wheeling Creek.[1] Although it is unincorporated, it has a post office, with the ZIP code of 43905.[2]

Barton is part of the Wheeling, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

A post office called Barton has been in operation since 1880.[3] Barton was platted in 1905, and named after Abner Barton, the original owner of the land.[4] Baron was originally a mining community.[5]

Notable persons

  • Johnny Pramesa, baseball player
  • Fraňo Kráľ (1903-1955), a Slovak writer and communist politician, was born in Barton.[6]
