Do Kyung-soo (born South Korean singer and actor. He is a member and one of the main vocalists of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO and its sub-group EXO-K.
January 12, 1993), better known by his stage name D.O., is aEarly life
D.O. was born in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, on January 12, 1993. He went to Goyang Poongsan Elementary School, Baekshin Middle School, and Baekseok High School. He has an older brother, Do Seungsoo, who is 3 years older than him. D.O. has been singing since primary school and was an avid participant in local singing competitions throughout his high school career.[citation needed] He went to the same school with BTOB's member Lim Hyunsik.
In 2010, he was recommended to audition for S.M. Entertainment after winning a local singing festival.[2] He subsequently became an S.M. Entertainment trainee during his last two years of high school. He performed Na Yoon-kwon's "Anticipation" and Brown Eyed Soul's "My Story" at his S.M. audition.[2]
Career
EXO
D.O. was formally introduced as the eighth member of EXO on January 30, 2012. He has been actively participating in EXO since then.
In July 2013, he was featured in f(x)'s new album "Pink Tape" in the song "Goodbye Summer".<3
In December 2013, D.O., along with bandmates Baekhyun and Chen, released a special Christmas ballad "Miracles in December".
In 2014, he sang his own song "Tell Me What Is Love" at EXO's first concert tour "EXOPLANET: THE LOST PLANET". The song was specially composed and arranged by SM's prominent hit-song maker Yoo Young-jin.
Solo activities
D.O. made his acting debut in the movie Cart, playing a high school student, Choi Tae-young, whose mother (played by Yum Jung-ah ) works at a large grocery store, and after being wrongfully dismissed from her job, she decides to fight for her rights and take a stand against the oppressive management. The movie premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival in September. He also sang the OST "Crying Out" (외침) for the movie.
His label, S.M. Entertainment, confirmed that henceforth he would be using his birth name, Do Kyung-soo, for all his future activities as an actor, and his stage name, D.O., for all his activities as an idol and member of EXO.
Later on during the year, he then appeared in the SBS's drama It's Okay, That's Love, which starred Gong Hyo-jin and Jo In-sung in the lead roles.[3] He played the role of Han Kang-woo, a character that the male lead (played by Jo In-Sung) has hallucinated. D.O. received high praise from the viewers of the drama, since he managed to portray this complex character, even though he was a rookie idol-actor. He was nominated for the Best New Actor Award and Male TV Popularity Award for the 51st Paeksang Arts Awards in 2015. D.O. was ranked number one by critics among 40 idol-actors who participated in dramas in 2014.
In June 2015, he made special appearances in KBS's new Monday-Tuesday drama Hello Monster, playing the coldblooded psychopath Lee Joon-young. His acting left a strong impression on the viewers, drawing high praise from both netizens, critics and industry insiders.[4][5]
Soon after, D.O. was casted as the male lead in the upcoming romance movie Pure Love, alongside rising actress Kim So-hyun. The movie began filming in June in Goheung County, Jeollanam Province, South Korea. In July, it was announced that D.O. has been offered the male lead for the 'human story' movie "Older Brother" along with actress Park Shin-hye and actor Jo Jung-suk. In August, they were confirmed for the movie and D.O. will play the role of Jo Jung-suk's younger brother Doo-Young, who is a national level Judo athlete.
On January 11, 2016, it was confirmed that D.O. will lead the cast of voice actors in the feature-length animated film, "Underdog". The movie is slated to premiere in 2017. D.O. will portray Moongchi, a stray dog who is separated from his owner. Disenchanted by his abandonment, Moongchi embarks on an adventure to discover a realm devoid of humans, leading a pack of other dogs along the way.[6]
On February 16, 2016 S.M. Entertainment dropped a prologue video for D.O featuring Yoo Young-jin's single, "Tell Me What Is Love" single, which D.O. performed a short version of at the group’s concerts in 2014. The full studio version of the song was released on February 19.[7]
