Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) is the largest chain of cinemas in Malaysia. The biggest cinema is located at Mid Valley Megamall. It houses 18 screen cinemas and has 2899 seats which is the largest in Malaysia. The largest competitor of the cinema is TGV Cinemas.

History

It was founded by Ms. Koh Mei Lee in 1981 as Golden Communications Circuit, while the other, Cathay is one of the oldest cinemas in Malaysia until 1998. Golden Screen Cinemas was founded in 1998 as a merger of Golden Communications (GC) Circuit and Cathay Cinemas.[1] Cathay Cinemas was later revived in Malaysia in 2004 as Cathay Cineplexes, which was formerly known as Mega Pavilion Cinemas. Mega Pavilion Cinemas, which was renamed Cathay Cineplexes Sdn Bhd in September 2004, became an integral part of Cathay Cineplexes’ operations when its parent company, Cathay Organisation Holdings Ltd, acquired the entire share capital of Cathay Organisation Holdings (M) Sdn Bhd in 2002.
